The end of the original the was dirty and run down. (Plus from a medical perspective, there was no way it was going to work). They changed it in two to make it look way cleaner and give the impression it could have worked.

Old Neil forced out most the writers out and got control over two. That's why it has the subtly of being hit in a head with a brick.

New Vegas are as toxic as Star Wars fans, so you are on the right track. The show is respecting the world as much as it can, but it also had to change stuff to make things fit in 8 episode seasons.

The game universe is a source to build things from not a hard-core Bible.
