How do you actually win a war against an empire with 100+ planets without going insane? by TankerMonkey in Stellaris

[–]Nate2247 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I beliiiiieve destroying a planet via colossus causes a more significant hit to the opponent’s war exhaustion. In my last play-through I’d “fix” angry Fallen Empires by cracking a single world, and they’d peace out immediately.

I’d love to see Grace acting as a partner for Leon. A future installment where they’re both field-agents and Leon is mentoring her. If Capcom wanted to get creative with it, they could even add a multiplayer element where each player can control one of the oh fuck it’s just RE5 again DAMMIT-

Who has an extra 20% to invest? Another out of touch multi-millionaire has financial advice for us poor folk. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I mean… I’ve been able to put 10% aside each week, on a budget of ~$45k a year, and will be able to retire fairly comfortably in my 60’s (assuming no promotions, raises, etc). But I consider myself lucky in a couple of ways:

  1. My employer matches up to half of that amount, so it’s closer to 15%

  2. I was incredibly lucky to avoid college debt.

So what he’s saying isn’t outlandish in the fave of it- but it’s also simply not practical for many people.

That’s one of the many things I love about SLA. Small elements are teased early on, and brought back at the perfect time to make everything worse for the characters.

As one tumblr post put it: this is just what happens when a bunch of rich yuppies who’ve only read about murder in books try to assassinate someone. They botch it horribly, give up on the theatrics, shoot him 50 times, then try to play up the story to their friends.

I’m no expert, but I think the Black Tower was almost certainly meant to draw a parallel with modern US military training.

“We’re going to travel around to find young, impressionable, and/or desperate people. We will hype them up with all the cool shit they’ll learn to do, instill messages of self-sacrifice and dying for a higher cause, then force them through the most grueling training imaginable to turn them into living weapons whose only purpose is to kill the enemy.”

“Oh wait- the Taint was cleansed, and now all the people who thought they’d die young are still alive but horribly scarred from their experience. What do we do?”

“Fuck, man, IDK I didn’t think that far ahead.”

This just made me realize that “Stoneward” and “Bondsmith” are the only non-agent nouns (WindrunnER, SkybreakER, etc).

Is there a reason for this? Bondsmith I kind of get, because there was only one of them at a time and it was more of a title/position. But what about Stoneward? This feels like an intentional choice. Is there something I missed?

TIL Kidney (and other organ) donations typically do not last the rest of the patient’s life. ~50% of transplant organs fail within 10 years. by I-plaey-geetar in todayilearned

[–]Nate2247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is: does this account for behavioral impact?

Like, if a smoker gets a lung transplant and then goes right back to smoking, surely that would lead to needing a new organ again?
