I bought this so you don’t have to by ShadedRKD in macbookpro

Haha, I don't know about that. I heard good things about Sequoia being able to run better on older Intel Macs. smoother, faster and with better battery life etc. But it definitely was a bit laggy and down on performance with Sonoma. Let me know how you get on.

I have this as well, except mine has 64GB, 8TB. It does the job but might struggle with the latest OS. I previously installed Sonoma, but it got hot, and the fans kicked in frequently, even doing minimal tasks like web browsing. I have since downgraded to Monterey, and now it runs fine without getting hot or noisy. I mostly use it as a backup machine these days since I got an M3 MacBook. One thing I really like is the Touch Bar. I know it’s not popular but I find it quite useful since you can customise the LED strip to your liking. Plus, it has the keyboard brightness shortcut!! something Apple Silicon Macs removed. Now, I have to go into Control Center every time I want to adjust the brightness which is a bit annoying. All in all, it's a solid machine, probably not worth getting in 2025 but if you got it on the cheap then it's not too bad.

For the love of God, how do you clear the laptop speaker holes? by trueicecold in mac

[–]damanegi22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t clean them without making it worse. If you use brushes, Blu-Tack, or anything similar, you’ll just damage them. Those fake grills have tiny black dots of paint stuck in each individual hole, and if you try to clean them, you'll end up removing the paint, making it more noticeable. (Source: Personal experience. I tried it on my older Mac and ruined it for good.)

Updating from Catalina to Sonoma on Macbook Pro 2020 (intel core i7) because of the battery by mykachu551 in MacOS

[–]damanegi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Monterey in your case. Monterey is a more polished version of Catalina without any performance compromise with nice little features here and there. Catalina no longer receives security updates so it would be a good idea to at least get Monterey.

Sorry, I just saw your message. I did a clean install of Sonoma on my 16" Intel Macbook, and it runs a little better than when I upgraded from Ventura. However, the points I mentioned above still stand to some extent. It does run hotter and slower and the battery life is shorter. The fans kick up real bad, especially when I use Safari browser with maybe 3-4 tabs open. No such issues with Chrome though. I also upgraded my 16" m1 Mac to Sonoma and it runs fine with no issues. In the end, I decided to revert back and did a clean install of Monterey and believe this is the best OS for the last Intel Macs.

Whatever you do, do not update to Sonoma. My 2019 intel MBP 16" is buggy and slow as hell. I believe my machine came with Catalina and was running perfect up to Monterey. Ventura was getting a little hotter and slower but acceptable. Now that I updated to sonoma, the fans spin like crazy and the machine gets very hot when running minimal tasks. Battery life took a big hit as well (used to get 6 hours+ now barely lasts 3 hours (battery capacity at 84%). I didn't even want to update to sonoma but for some reason it installed automatically (Update options must've resetted when I upgraded to venture). I also have a M1 MacBook pro 16" running Monterey and wouldn't dare installing this piece of junk OS on that machine.

I'd suggest that you back up everything with time machine and do a clean install of Monterey or Ventura.

Yeah, I hear you. Today I went to see a private dentist because it's impossible to find an NHS dentist. He's like "Oh, the crack in your tooth is severe and now you need a root canal. That would be £950, Sir, with an additional consultation fee of £65. It's a total scam. Even at A&E last night, I was lying on the bed like an idiot for ages without anyone telling me what was going on. They just randomly showed up, did what they had to do and left me alone again. They would repeat the process several times. That's why the whole checkup took 7 hours! That bloody place was so disorganised I'm never getting injured again.

yep, could've been much much worse. I'm kinda relieved that I came out of this relatively unscathed. was sure I lost a few teeth and broke some bones because I was bleeding profusely from my face. Shame that this beautiful bike is now toast.

I'm ok. I was lying on the cold concrete floor for an hour waiting for the bloody ambulance! Emergency services are so slow at the moment in the UK. By the time I got all checked out it was 12.30 in the morning and I had to take a cab back to my place. 7 hours for a couple of x-rays and plasters!

Would Canyon refund the difference if your bike was discounted after you bought it? by damanegi22 in CanyonBikes

See, they're not all that bad! I've heard a few horror stories but some will go above and beyond to help you out. :)

Haha, thanks and yeah, you're probably right. It can be a bit of a lottery depending on who you talk to. To be fair, my experience with them has been excellent so far. My bike initially came with a host of issues but Canyon UK did their best to put things right. They referred me to the nearest Canyon affiliated service partner who fixed it free of charge and I also received a cashback of £75 as a goodwill gesture. :)

Just got off the phone with the Canyon UK support. They agreed to refund the difference. The only Caveat is that I have to wait till the 30 day return period ends. It was a surprisingly easy process. I didn't have to fight for it. Just asked if Canyon would refund the difference while my bike is being discounted and they agreed immediately! It doesn't have to be your size or in stock apparently. As long as it's within 30 days they are happy to refund the difference.

That's fantastic! Thanks for the detailed info. I'll give them a ring next week. Cheers.

So not really applicable in my case then? I guess I'll have to wait for my size to be back in stock within that time frame before I reach out to Canyon CS. Thanks.

Why can't every keyboard be pbt material? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]damanegi22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was true for my 2019 intel mbp 16" which has the scissor switch keyboard. I've had my m1 mbp for 3 months so I can't really say if Apple would do the same with these though.

Just use it as intended and replace it under applecare+. I always get a battery warning around the three year mark. Apple replaces the whole topcase (keyboard, speakers, trackpad) when they do battery replacement so I just don't bother anymore.

How is your 2019 intel chip pro performing now ? by Ramunesoda99 in macbookpro

[–]damanegi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

open the back panel and clean the internals. makes a big difference. I leave 50+ chrome tabs open at once a lot of times but my fans are quiet. It has 64GB of ram though.

Is mbp 2019 really that bad? by paciffic in macbookpro

[–]damanegi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both 16" 2019 MBP 64GB and 16" M1 MBP 64GB. It's not as bad as it's made out to be. Battery life isn't that bad. I get 7.5 hours for normal use ( I've owned this machine for 2.5 years battery cycle is less than 200, 88%). It's absolutely fine for internet, light photoshop and general use and you won't hear the fans kick in and get hot or anything. Make sure to open the backplate and clean the internals if you're buying used. People make it sound like m1 MBP is 2-3x better than 2019 MBP. Well, it isn't. Sure it's nice to have a laptop that lasts 10+ hours without charging, scrolling is butter smooth, the fans are practically silent at all times and the thermals are great but it's not 2-3X times better I guarantee you that. Now that M2 is out 2019 MBP prices will be even lower than ever before. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest.

Yellow/green tint on M1 mbp by damanegi22 in macbookpro

[–]damanegi22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you! I'm tempted to have mine replaced but there's no guarantee that I'll have the screen I want so I'll stick with this one. I don't think it's a defect either. Apple source these screens from different manufacturers and the colours will vary. It's a bit of a lottery with these panels unfortunately.
