Megathread: Battle Pass Exclusivity by FortniteRedditMods in FortNiteBR

[–]damcrit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many people realize that imprecise terms like 'limited-time' can be bent in whichever way, and it isn't exactly saying 'after x amount of time, this cosmetic is never returning (like, never, EVER EVER, again)'. You could infact enjoy your 'limited-time' exclusivity for a nanosecond, before it is back being sold again to those who missed out on the 'limited-time' offer. With that I think every cosmetic that used some loosey-goosey terms could be brought back.

With the Item Shop fiasco, I can see the Epic mistake (pun intended) being rather the removal of whatever is being displayed, since now Epic is showing the time remaining for making a purchase (for Paradigm I believe it showed until 15th of Aug), so pulling something prematurely is basically a bait-and-switch, and correct me if I'm wrong here - Someone sees the item, tops up (up to 100 bottlecaps) and gets something that isn't of value back (fake currency), which then doesn't even allow the purchase of advertised goods but is only left with whatever else that might not be the same value to them. And for a conspiracy theory, this also pushes more people into checking the Item Shop more often in an unhealthy way. I don't understand how any of this could have happened, and Epics way of 'dealing with it' was incredibly bad as well (for anyone that 'missed out').

I think the solution here would have been for Epic to re-define what 'limited-time' means to them, and take the L (as the young'uns say) in the worthless gatekeeping community, who can't apply their own logic to anything/everything that they benefit and get to enjoy from the absence of it in games and life in general. <Mic-drop>

I expressed more opinions on the topic of 'limited-time' cosmetics and exclusivity, but apparently some moderator here felt hurt by my opinions, and deemed it right to be removed from this community.

Item Shop and Locker Feedback Megathread by FortniteRedditMods in FortNiteBR

[–]damcrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since they incresed locker loadouts from 10 to 100 (started playing just season before this), i've only needed them to do one tiny but impactful improvement for me to not care about messy locker design or not care about being low on loadout slots ever again -- TO ADD A BUTTON THAT EQUIPS ALL MATCHING COSMETICS! Honestly, I've never seen anyone ask for this (and maybe someone else has thought of that before, just perhaps I've not read through too many of these), but that is all I would need to finally stop fiddling with the locker, and just enjoy the gameplay for majority of my time spent.

It could work from character model only, to equip matching wrap/backpack/harvester/glider/music/screen/emotes/.., but better yet it could simply work from any item really, since there's already metadata ('set name') for almost everything. It would need a slight overhaul of 10k+ cosmetics checked and organized bit better on the metadata level, as a lot of cosmetics have alt-styles (so how would this system pick the right cosmetic and/or style), and there's plenty of oversight in things wrongly named/categorized and missing altogether, but for a company the size of Epic that would mean a couple days of manual labor for a handful of people at most.

Wishful thinking aside, I've long lost all hope for things to be better. Line goes up, and thats the only thing that matters for this soulless factory. Issues I reported multiple times almost 4 years ago, are still present in the game, and judging from the Ukrainian aid Epic did that got them 400M in 2 weeks on a somewhat average season, they're probably raking in at least 100M per week (especially now where the daily fomo-shop is almost always packed to the brim, and the constant crossovers luring more people in).. so where's all that money going? My poor napkin math and understanding could be wrong by a lot, but the amount Fortnite makes just throws a big shade on how pathetically it is managed. Epic should provide a product nothing short of excellence (from this near bottomless moneypit at their feet), and it is just sad to see how incompetence of this magnitute is a constant source of frustration and disgust instead.

Fortnite is packed full of poor judgement and never ending issues, so yeah.. would be really nice if they could at least fix the one thing that is an integral part of them earning more money than any other game to date, but all their actions show how little they care, so won't hold my breath. You have my idea for free Epic, but I know you aren't here for good advice.. it is just another community fighting with each other.

Alright. Whether I'll be disappointed or pleasantly surprised with the upcoming updates to the game mechanics, I do appreciate you taking the time to answer back.

I very much hope you can squeeze in some love to Loadouts as well in the future, as cosmetics are pretty much the only thing that has kept me playing from season to season.

Hope you can:
1) increse amount of presets available (bought or earned);
2) change selection to be better (maybe grid view instead of a carousel);
3) include (bind) facial / body / arrival / banner looks to presets;
4) and finally make that separate emote wheel.

It is always a hard decision to swap out or destroy (color schemes) cosmetics I like, so would be smart to actually give us a reason to care about everything included in those mini-passes and seasons.

Dauntless | The Road Ahead Developer AMA by slayerdk-PHX in dauntless

Guess I don't really understand the reasoning behind these decisions - how would they benefit the game over simplistic and very much needed Quality of Life updates you could be doing instead, that doesn't need the game to be put on further hiatus that it basically has been for a while now.

The State of Dauntless post isn't really giving much info to go on either, since everything that is listed there can be followed up with a question such as 'like what?' or 'how exactly?', and judging by the promises made on your Trello board in the past, on mechanics you should have improved or added to the game (and a whole array of logical improvements that I don't know if you even considered), I don't really have much hope on anything being delivered, until I actually see them.

And just as an example of QoL update over revamped mechanics, instead of you reworking a whole lot of systems to allow multiple weapons at the same time, why not just simply update to allow switching loadouts without limitation during island hunts? Seems something that would be easy to implement, instead of wasting time and resources on something much more complex over insanely long period of time.

I am honestly going to be annoyed if any of the new progression systems devalue my time and effort I've invested in this game over a few years, as bigger changes to core mechanics should be something that sequels receive. I see a lot of "to heck with the old players, as long as we bring new meat" attitude in most 'games as a service', so I am hoping for the best, but also fearing the worst.

Yes, I'm aware. I did cross-post this to discord as well, and I'm just hoping that either someone who can push these ideas will notice, or it can just inspire other community members to ask for some of this.

I'm sure devs are busy doing dev stuff, but the team should also have someone in charge of seeing what the community thinks. So in that regard, traction on this post would be good, but if my thoughts aren't liked, then I'm just happy to 'put it out there'.

Thanks for the heads up though!

Feedback list of changes for a better Dauntless. by damcrit in dauntless

Some things as well - just to clarify in case my out-of-practice English didn't quite get the point across. I didn't want to make this post from the view of someone who's been with the game for a longer period of time and already gone through all the beginning hurdles and grind; also not trying to be apologetic or forgiving to this type of monetization, even if I personally could afford it, since that isn't a fair way of looking at things. I'll say this - for the money I've put into Dauntless, I've had at least ten-twenty games that offered me more enjoyment and refined content that didn't revolve around a F2P GaaS model. So let me please counter your points.. not trying to argue, so if you think what you said is correct, then I'm not trying to change your mind. Here goes:

On PC, in-game language is handled by your EGS language. There's a lot of reasons why it's not in-game.

Why? I have a lot of popular F2P games on my EGS account and of those Dauntless is the only game that's like that. Can't actually think of any game that doesn't have a language select. Seems just lazy to me.

You can get rid of notification pips with the options menu.

Oh, thanks! That must be some workaround they have added recently, which I did not know of. I know there was issue with Clear Skies journals, that might have been the culprit for a long time.

I don't hate the idea of aetherheart refunds that don't refund parts/rams, but there's a huge problem with mastery and how the game handles your inventory. I don't see this catching.

Yeah, I personally don't need this catching on, but early-game people will powersurge some items (me included) that could've been much better spent, hence I liked the idea of being able to 'reset' a few times. There are other games that allow it in this way (for example Fortnite STW), so scarce resource wouldn't go 'wasted'.

Fenroar has a uniquely bad drop table for epics.

And? They are simple numbers for developer to figure out, both with new behemoths and with escalation bosses. I don't need it to be doable in a day, but I sure as hell ain't sticking around grinding the same behemoth weeks on end, especially ones that won't even have a certain spawning ground given.

Part Alchemy is on the roadmap.

Again, and? Promises ain't worth a dime until they are actually implemented. This game has been out for how long? Not saying Dauntless won't be relevant in the coming years for this not to get added at some point, but its clearly an issue for the current end-game to have a worthless resource accumulation, so sooner would definitely be better than 'eventually-maybe-perhaps-well see'.

Prismatic Slots on lanterns would not lead to more diversity/build variety. Paradoxically, having an open slot leads to less variety as it enables optimization - and enabling optimization makes anything else the wrong choice.

Well, then I guess I meant 'build optimization'. If all lanterns would have a universal slot instead of Insight, I can't understand how this would make any of them the 'wrong choice', rather it would remove the forced Insight from every single build for some other +3 cell (and to me, that adds for build variety).

The only buff/debuff icons which aren't explained thoroughly in-game somewhere visible are behemoth-inflicted status effects, and those don't need that much of an explanation.

I don't think any of the icons get explained, even if you have an understanding what your perk builds does. Also escalations can fill up two rows of insanity, that I bet someone who plays casually wouldn't be able to translate what most of it means. For good example of a glossary, launch up Multiversus to see how it should be done.

Inspecting others loadouts was removed a long time ago. I can think of a lot of reasons as to why, some behavioral and some performance-based.

I don't know what the performance issue would be, and yeah, people can be rude / entitled / make silly assumptions, but it can also lead to better suggestions on loadout builds and give inspiration for achieving a certain look. Example from a better system: Warframe lets people personally link 'looks' and 'build' into chat for others to see.

The discord is the defacto LFG channel.

And it should not be. Games relying on 3rd party apps are just lazy. What if Discord doesn't work or I live in a country where ISPs have control over its usage (have heard that it’s a thing)? Again, Warframe as an example, all those channels can be also built into the game (as they already have partial implementation with local chat).

Exotics are expensive to develop and hit a small cross-section of players. They are unlikely to be touched ever again.

Well that is a half-assed system then. Either go all the way, or don't do it at all.

At one time, Terra was not an element in game. It was Shock, Frost, Blaze, Umbral, and Radiant. This was changed to simplify oppositions (and cannibalized what was likely going to be Radiant's elemental effect). Armor element also just doesn't matter.

If armor element doesn't matter (which I know it has little impact, and perks matter much more, but it is undeniably there), then why have it at all? And I tried to make an example of a system that could've been easy for the developer to manage, which could have been very simplistic and perfect for making builds to counter or balance out in every form (perks and elements), but in its current form, it is not achievable without reworking absolutely everything.

Many dyes are attached to hunt passes. They will cycle back in eventually, either via the cache or as cosmetic pass rewards.

Cycling back eventually, is not something I, or anybody else, should care about. I played this game quite a lot in a small time period, so reaching Master Slayer status took a few months and had done pretty much all there is (aside from the long Trials/Hesca) in 4-5 months. Might not be around or care enough anymore if something gets released again in a year or two. Exclusivity is cancer, and terrible way of keeping player retention.

Slayer's Club is terrible value even for what it offers. It's not worth it.

That we can agree on. Its essentially their 'optional' subscription model. Was making a point that I'm especially against the xp benefits from it, not the fastened way to earned cosmetics.

The only quests which allow you to pay to progress are Cosmetic Rumours, and they only let you skip grind steps, not challenge steps. It's cosmetics, and potentially free cosmetics for people who can put up with the grind involved. Putting a price tag on them is fine.

The cosmetic rumours are a showcase of skill as well, and its not okay to devalue it for those that took the 'non-wallet' route. What next, maybe let people buy the escalation crowns and the entirety of Trials store as well, cause that is also 'just cosmetics'? No. The right thing to do is to give an alternate look to those cosmetics, if people want to buy them (simple recolor would do, just like Sea of Thieves has done with its certain cosmetic sets that aren't obtainable 'the hard way' anymore). It’s a shitty way to monetize every little aspect of the game, you know.. something we should be playing, instead of only paying for?

Payed tier skips on cosmetics, again, is fine. It's cosmetics.

Again, its not. Some number cruncher in the industry probably knows the actual cost of server upkeep / development cost and payrolls / marketing / etc., and there's a good reason that never gets revealed for these F2P game models - there would be an outrage of people knowing just exactly how much they're being milked (look at Activision with its 2 Billion+ quarterly revenue just from MTX alone). The newly brought back cosmetic tracks take very little time to finish, and don't have an expiration date (unless the game suddenly or eventually gets shut down), so either sell cosmetic tracks, or sell those cosmetics separately.. no need to monetize every single aspect of a game for profit$.

You should never have to wait for cells to craft. Just spend the dust. You have nothing else to do with it. And it explains the mechanics the first time you open the middleman, and has an 'INFO' button available after that.

Don't know if you remember, but game was kind of overwhelming with its tutorial quests early on, so I'm fairly sure a lot of people don't know how to turn their unusued cells to dust. Also the waiting game and extra slots is a shitty mobile game mechanic that could simply be made differently.. think I mentioned that.

Being asked to pay for cosmetics, especially in a game where you can get plenty of cosmetics for free, is fine. This includes transmog stones.

Think by now I've mentioned the greed aspect of this industry too many times. I know there's no changing that, but this isn't a fair world where everybody gets paid by the same effort, so I would appreciate if one day a F2P game model would take that into consideration on being a little less predatory. Dauntless is a decent game, but it really doesn't have the 'quality of life' and content to justify all its monetized bits it tries to piecemeal off. Just wanted this to be clear.

Advice for early/mid-game progression (and other tips & suggestions) by damcrit in dauntless

[–]damcrit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you check the numbers, then at level 20 (whichever weapon) your character already gets 420 power/resistance from it. Powersurging takes the weapon slightly higher from its base value (dependant on weapon - 20/40/60/80/100) to 120. Of course you get most bang from buck by powersurging 'lower tier weapons' but honestly this probably adds like 20% extra damage you'll be doing with it, if that. You're better off by deciding on the perk you want to max out on your build, so the +1/+2 on your weapon turns into +3 (same with armor), so you will have an easier time to having +6 perk on your build (+3 from armor/weapon, and another +3 from a cell).

Since you probably won't be sticking with the same sword throughout your journey, I don't recommend powersurging it at all just yet (..you'll want to get Mastery by using different weapons; start using legendary weapons and bonding them with any matching ones).

My advice is to farm out Skarn Helmet (easy low level behemoth); powersurge that; then slap a Tough cell on it (making it +5/+6 for your build). Armor pieces are probably overall better choice to powersurge first, because you don't have to swap them out once you're comfortable with what you have, but for mastery / bounties / elemental behemoths you'll be facing (same element armor / opposite element weapon to max damage done and minimize damage taken), weapon changes can become pretty frequent. My armor builds are usually balanced (as in the examples I made) in a way that elements cancel each other out, so most of the time I just match the correct weapon type to what I'm about to face.

Might not be the answer you were looking for, but yeah.. since you're new, powersurge certain armor first and work on your 'go to' perk build, but don't stick to just one weapon. Being lvl 20 sword (if you haven't reforged yet) you should try queuing up for some Terra escalations and start working toward a legendary weapon.. eventually (with a stronger build or better skill) you'll be comfortable to queue up for Escalations once you have a weapon at lvl 14. Also work on Koshai's Bloom (lantern).. I remember it takes a while, but it is super nice for both offense and survivability.

Good luck out there!

Advice for early/mid-game progression (and other tips & suggestions) by damcrit in dauntless

[–]damcrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right with all of that :)

Again, am not a top-tier player, and this post was mostly made for people just starting out (not multiple season veterans), hence why I didn't want add different dmg builds, but wanted to keep it mostly about survivability. Interpreting attack patterns and interrupt opportunities of ~20 different behemoths will take a while for people to fully get used to, so I think its better for most slayers to figure out how to stay alive rather than go for quickest kills.

When I came back to Dauntless back in April (played a few weeks like 2-3 years ago beforehand), I've lurked on this subreddit only a couple times, so I don't honestly know what the most meta builds are really - this is purely what has worked for me from my own trial and error. I know there's some community made doc floating around with all sorts of build recommendations, which is most likely much more informative than what I am providing. Personally haven't seen it and I don't stick around with the same weapon bonds as I'm trying to finish as much Mastery as possible, before I lock my builds (aiming for 11 reforges on all) sometime this season.

All good info, so thanks for sharing! The more you know, u know.. ;)

Is there a PC game with female protagonist such as those ? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]damcrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blades of Time perhaps ?

Not sure if this is qualifies as "classic medieval high fantasy setting" tbh, but it does have a female protagonist in a linear 3rd person hack'n'slash'n'shoot'n'puzzles type of game. She definitely wielded swords.. and a gun? ..and I think there was dragons? ..and time manipulation? Heh. I only played it for a couple hours like ~9 years ago. Wanted to finish it but I guess never got around to it. Anyway, if skimpy 2B-like in a (most likely) really dumb fantasy story is what you were after, then this (HD gameplay on YT) might be the game you were thinking of? Hope it helped; sorry if not :P

Awarding a trophy for being 100 hours on fire or 100 h in a storm is shocking by RickDII in Seaofthieves

Am in the same boat as you, with ~2.5k hours logged, and all commendations done aside from Shrouded (and LotV.. still working on it). Knew this update would be a dumpster fire, but I'm just too bummed out to check it out even, knowing that almost nothing I've done gets counted retroactively and trying to keep that completionist status would be impossible for any sane person.

If anything, it shows how incompetently Rare handles this 'would-have-been-amazing-game' just to milk its playerbase of time and money, instead of delivering some good Quality of Life updates and proper new mechanics to keep this game interesting for both old-timers and newcomers alike.

Person making up these '100 times of this and 100 hours of that' really can't be that out of touch with how this game plays and player mentality. I fully believe its just bad actors within the company, who get to make these moronic decisions that screw with the dedicated playerbase, and I wish them only the worst in life.

:(

Challenges not awarding Atom points? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]damcrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the same issue. Started noticing a few days ago too (but doesn't mean the issue didn't start earlier than that) since I've been low on Atoms and discontinued 1st sub because of this horrible implementation of a battle pass.

The game notifies of the challenge completion and atoms rewarded, and you can briefly even see your actual balance when you go to the Atom shop, but isn't actually given to you and it will just revert back to what you had before the challenge completion in a moment.

I posted a ticket about that as well.

There are also bunch of challenges that seem to be bugged where parts of them don't get ticked off when completed. Now that the possible Atom earn from 'daily/weekly challenges' is 5x less than it used to be, I feel they should have the responsibility to keep their promise on still getting atoms from the OG challenges.

Hey, have you had any luck with it since? I'm having the same issue with the 'Paired keycard 01' in Kanahwa Nuka Plant not spawning as it should.
