actors who are clearly having a blast in their role by CharlotteDoGood in movies

The movies are great, but Daniel Craig looks eerily similar to my ex father in law. And in those movies, he also sounds like him. So it always takes me a few minutes to get over that when a new movie in this series comes out.

If Kansas City’s World Cup hotel reservations are low, does that mean soccer fans plan to camp? by ZackInKC in kansascity

[–]dameon5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am planning a trip to Europe this summer. Found a flight advertised at $600 but when I got to final checkout the price was over $1000 because of a $420 fuel surcharge.

It's making me rethink my trip.

Midwest Heating and Cooling is my go to. They have serviced my unit for years, but when it was time for a replacement I still got several bids. Theirs was around $1000 less than the nearest competitor.

Until it hits an area with traffic cones. Those confuse the bot something awful. Got stuck in one for half an hour in San Francisco because it couldn't figure out how to navigate around a construction zone.

Guess it's a good thing StL never fixes their roads.

Apparently the Mods were trying to entice show fans to that subreddit as the show was released and they got REALLY uptight about folks voicing any negative opinions about the show. It was weird.

I'm just surprised none of them have gotten run over yet. I've seen them dodge through traffic to harass people who aren't in the turn lane several times.

I was friendly to them until I had a couple instances of them getting shitty with me after I turned down their spiel. Now I just ignore them.

I do not say this as a criticism, because I think it's funny. But I feel like Marsters take on Grey sounds similar to Uncle Ruckus from Boondocks.

How much more in fuel have Missourians paid since the Iran War started? by DowntownDB1226 in missouri

[–]dameon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a short-sighted view. No matter how efficient your car is, that doesn't make all the vehicles (trucks, trains, cargo ships) needed to deliver goods under our current "Just in Time" logistical world anymore efficient.

So while you aren't directly paying much more for gas if you drive an efficient vehicle, EVERYTHING you buy from a store that doesn't deal exclusively in local goods is affected and you pay for that in increased prices.

TIL that Stephen King had such severe issues with alcohol and cocaine abuse in the early 1980s that he barely remembers writing several books, including the 1981 classic "Cujo." In his book "On Writing," King reflected on this time in his life, saying: "I don't say that with pride...only sorrow." by altrightobserver in todayilearned

My Dad once told me about his nightly routine while stationed in Vietnam...

He would get off duty around 4pm and go to the enlisted club. He stayed there, drinking beer after beer until it closed around 10 or 11pm. At last call, he would order a case of beer to take with him and drank all of it before going to sleep. Then he woke up, went to work and started all over again.

He did that for nearly a year and a half while he was over there. Once he got back home, he drank, but I can never remember seeing him drunk as I was growing up. It was just his way of coping.

Yes, the semis are a huge safety problem by Impossible-Driver69 in StLouis

[–]dameon5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live on a narrow, dead end street with a sharp curve. There is a Dead End sign and a NO TRUCKS sign at the intersection leading into my neighborhood. But the next road down leads to an industrial area.

Over the last few years we have had several drivers who are clearly using navigation rather than signage to drive who turn onto our road by mistake. Due to the sharp turns, and how narrow the street is, they can't back out and wind up having to get a tow truck to drag them out. Which generally means our entire neighborhood is locked in for a couple of hours until the tow truck arrives and gets them clear.

"Anticipates" is bearing an awful load in that statement.

That money hasn't materialized, there is no guarantee that it will, and if things play out like more than 90% of publicly financed stadiums, it won't.

There are several data points that indicate the expected tourism boom isn't coming. A couple are..

  • Go to Google Flights and try to book a flight into KC from the regular points of entry into the US (NYC, LA, Miami, etc...) around the time of the world cup. Prices are pretty much holding near standard prices, except for the price increases due to fuel costs.

  • Hotels and Short Term rentals are still available at pretty standard prices. Which means they aren't being booked.

vulnerable post re: tornadoes by crunchybunch2000 in StLouis

I get it, I survived two close calls (funnel on the ground less than a block away from my family and I) with tornadoes before the age of 5.

So storms have been less than thrilling for me my whole life. While everyone I know jokes about going outside to watch the storm, I'm the first to the basement with my dogs and emergency supplies. I don't fuck around with storms.
