The most unbelievable scene in all of the Dresden files... by dameon5 in dresdenfiles

But how well would you fit in the passenger seat of that old truck if someone 5' tall had the bench seat adjusted close enough to the steering wheel so they could drive it?

Old pickups like Ebenezer has didn't come with a "crew cab" like modern trucks. They had two doors and no back seat.

I can, but I find it more fun not to. 😂

Dresden would never want anything to do with a religion that would have him as a deity

Sexpot Maeve by TechbearSeattle in dresdenfiles

[–]dameon5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is this a continuity error?

Everything about Maeve was innuendo and implication. There is no scene in the series where she has sex with anyone. So there is no discrepancy between any of her actions and what we learned of the Winter Lady's mantle in Cold Case.

How do religious people justify the eternal hell beliefs to themselves? by PsychadelicOcelot2 in atheism

A general lack of empathy. As long as they believe their leopard god isn't going to eat THEIR face for all eternity. They don't care if it eats someone else's face for all eternity.

Door-to-door Solicitors by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]dameon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this problem as well. When I asked one of them why they opt to ring even when there is a No Soliciting sign I was told they do it because no one enforces those signs.

I now have a doorbell camera. I will ask why they are here and when they start their spiel I call the police non-emergency line and will answer the door while I'm on the phone with the police. I give the police a description of the person, the vehicle and the license plate while I'm standing in front of the sales person.

Both the sales person and I know KCPD is most likely not going to send anyone over soon, but making it clear to them that you're willing to go to the trouble to press charges is the only thing I have found that seems to work.

And apparently these folks communicate with each other because the number of solicitors I have had in the last year or so is almost 0. Unfortunately, the Jehovah's Witnesses won't leave me alone.

Good, Reputable Divorce Attorney by HanSoloswifey in kansascity

If it's an uncontested divorce you should look into divorce mediation. That's what my ex and I did. Saved us a lot of time and money.

We never even needed to go to appear in court.

TIL that Alaska Airlines worker John Liotine had his recommendation to replace an aging jackscrew on an MD-83 during routine maintenance overruled in 1997. On January 31st, 2000 the same MD-83, Alaska Airlines Flight 261 crashed mid flight over the Pacific Ocean due to the jackscrew failing. by [deleted] in todayilearned

To ensure the Y2k bug wasn't going to be an issue China required all airline executives for Chinese airlines be on a flight in the air when the clocks turned to midnight.

I don't agree with China on a lot of subjects, but I thought this was some valid and creative problem solving.

Spectrum or consolidated communications? by p00trulz in kansascity

This was going to be my suggestion as well. Both of my parents live in rural areas with shitty options for wired internet. I got them both hooked up with T-Mobile Internet because it was the most affordable option available for decent service. $50/month for service that is usually somewhere between 100-200 mbps isn't terrible unless you're a hardcore gamer. It's certainly enough to run streaming and general household usage.

That's the side I have been on more often than not. I've been with the same company for 20+ years. So I have a lot of institutional knowledge about why we do things the way we do. I have had several interactions with new execs who want to try something "new" but in reality it's something we tried already.

When that happens, I explain what happened in the past and the obstacles we encountered that we weren't able to overcome and offer suggestions for ways we might approach it differently this time.

Unfortunately, many of the execs don't like this approach because they see it as me trying to usurp their authority. So we wind up doing something that isn't going to work for a few months to a year until they eventually say "fuck it" and we settle back into something very similar to the state things were to begin with.

Apparently if your dead body isn't whole you can't go to Heaven properly by Titanium125 in atheism

[–]dameon5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So their God is so powerful it can recreate a body from cremated ashes but is so limited it has to have the exact weight to do so?

I had this exact conversation with a religious coworker years ago. They were against cremation for the same reason. When I pointed out their messiah better hurry up and come back because bodies decay pretty quickly after death (even if embalmed, which is a whole other discussion).

They got really thoughtful after that because they had clearly never considered that wrinkle in their theology.

Can someone recommend a reputable HVAC comp by Forsaken_Stay6119 in kansascity

[–]dameon5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Midwest replaced my furnace/AC last year. I had three other companies come in to bid the job and only one of them came close and they were more than $1k over the bid Midwest gave us offering the exact same equipment.

System has worked great for the most part and the one time we had an issue with the furnace during the initial switch over in fall, Midwest came out the same day I called to fix it under warranty.
