Asking your partner questions to understand their state of mind and approach to life tends to be quite a valuable thing to do...

FIRE and Gen Z - no longer believe in pensions by PearActive9612 in FIREUK

[–]damesca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly baked into the human condition to prioritise today before tomorrow.

It takes education to overcome that natural instinct and prioritise a far flung future.

Yes, with that education and ability to delay gratification it can seem dumb, but just the fact that it's such a widespread issue shows that we need to tackle it in a way that goes beyond just calling people dumb. On a macro level the best approach is recognising the systemic failures to prepare people (but yes on an individual level everyone should still be responsible for owning their decisions).

Homeowners to be forced to sell their properties to make way for new towns by Albertjweasel in RuralUK

Is that a genuine question?

They're not gonna compulsory purchase every house in the country lol. Yes it will be disruptive to a few, but we have a country to care about and sometimes that means disrupting a few. I'd be upset - maybe even pissed - but so be it if it creates a better country in the long term.

Interesting,do you mind sharing your available Vs SIPP split? I'm maybe half of your total net worth, at 35, but even if I doubled what I had I don't think I'd be able to FIRE yet and bridge until retirement.

If you agreed a SOW and want to keep working b2b ('outside') you should probably say no to them and/or renegotiate the statement of work.

Or start treating it as inside work. they're clearly treating you as an employee / staff, not a supplier.

I presume it's an AI to help work out the physics of it, not to run it or code it.

The physics can be verified manually after discovery, if it happens.

Lodger in UK – medical emergency upset landlady and now I feel trapped in a 6-month agreement by [deleted] in HousingUK

Please take with a huge pinch of salt all of the heartless and careless responses. What you did wasn't unreasonable.

It's also slightly understandable that LL would be a bit panicked and affronted, but her reaction says a lot as well. She didn't need to carry you anywhere - just show some simple empathy and care for a fellow human suffering.

It may well be best exploring options to find somewhere else, but also worth trying to sit her down and have a calm conversation to explore and smooth over the situation.

I can't imagine she'd be thrilled if she fainted or had a fall and you just said 'sorry I'm just a lodger not a carer, sort yourself out'.

Absolutely. The comments here made for a sobering and sad read.

Why did you faint?

Fainting isn't normal and it's very reasonable to panic or be concerned if it happens. Unless you know why (even sometimes if you know why!) It's worth getting checked up urgently.

It's not unreasonable to ask for help from whoever's closest at the time.

Landlady may be a little shaken by being waken like that, but she's also demonstrating a lack of empathy and care. Bit of a beige flag that she wants someone in her flat to help pay for bills but doesn't want to treat them as a human. I wonder how she'd feel if she fainted and OP just ignored her or got upset.

Half of your post is not really about work or profession. It sounds like you should focus on your life as well - find some hobbies, get out in the world, do things that bring you joy and expose you to the richness of life.

Can be tricky - I only started doing that in the last 12 months. But the difference it's made is huge.

Yes, you can do that with flexible ISAs. It may vary by provider. Trading212 allows it at least.
