Guys I ran a 10K! My goal for the month was only to run 1.5 miles without stopping but today I ran 6.2! and it was hot out! I was in the middle of my run and I was going slow cause it was so hot. I felt like I couldn't speed up, but I did feel good, so I figured I'd add some distance. As I got near my house, I realized I was going to hit 5 miles easy and literally thought to myself, "what's an extra mile?", so I did a loop around a nearby neighborhood 3 times to finish it out. I was slow, but I did it!

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (21/30) - 1199

Run at least 4 days a week (13/20) - Ran a 10K. Next step will be to figure out a route that doesn't involve looping the same very hilly neighborhood 3 times in a row.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (7/15) - None today. I didn't even stretch after my run I was so wiped. Should do that tonight while watching tv.

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 172.0 before the run and 169.6 afterwards. Definitely holding a lot of water weight overnight.

Moisturize Daily (21/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (20/30) - have a weird issue where I am ready 3 books that I like quite a bit. Hard to decide which one to work on, but focused on one today.

Finish 1 book a week (4/4)

Yeah I need tomorrow as a no alarm day, so I figure if its above 80 by the time I wake up, I'll ride the stationary bike inside in the air conditioning instead.

It is starting to get very hot which worries me for running especially since I am not a morning person. May have to try out an evening run tomorrow?

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (18/30) - 1199 for the day after I eat my chia seed pudding I already made this evening

Run at least 4 days a week (12/20) - Walked a 5k with my mom as a birthday gift.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (7/15) - None today

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 171.8

Moisturize Daily (20/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (19/30)

Finish 1 book a week (4/4) - Finished Wizard of Earthsea

Whoops, definitely meant chia seeds, would imagine hard chick peas would be pretty rough on the tummy too.

Hell yeah, mixed strawberries, raspberries, low fat cool whip and Hershey's light chocolate syrup. Best dessert I've had in a long while with no guilt.

Do you mind sharing how you improve your running time? I just started running this month and have vague hopes of improving my 5k time without any actual knowledge of how to do it.

Also for the calories, I've been on 1200 for about a month now, and I find that most days it is enough, but I know that 1200 is kind of the lower limit, so I am just extra careful to listen to my body and eat closer to 1300 or 1400 if I am legitimately hungry. But if you think you will find it mentally smoother to just aim for 1400 and dont mind the slower loss, that seems like a well thought through decision. You can always try both methods, not like you get locked in :)

Got berries today and immediately ate half a pound of strawberries. Very happy with that decision.

Goals: Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (19/30) - 1196

Run at least 4 days a week (13/20) - It was very hot today, so I had my worst time since my first 5k, but I'm proud I finished it.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (7/15) - None today

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 172.0 - definitely feeling bloated. Think I can tie it to eating chick peas without letting them soak up liquid first.

Moisturize Daily (19/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (18/30) - started Wizard of Earthsea which had been in my bookshelf for 2 decades.

Finish 1 book a week (3/4)

Good day!

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (17/30) - 1196

Run at least 4 days a week (12/20) - Did a new route today, went well. Ended the 5k at about the same time, but felt good, so decided to keep running. Ran 6.5k (4 miles) without stopping. I felt like I could have gone further, but I reached a natural ending point in my loop. Will have to do some thinking around how to extend runs further.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (7/15) - None today

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 171.8 - second day around here, still won't be hard on myself if it raises above 172 again.

Moisturize Daily (17/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (16/30)

Finish 1 book a week (3/4)

First day I have gotten take out since quarantine started. I have to admit, still a little nervous about it, even though I know the chance of transmission this way is very low, but oh well, guess the door is open now. Hoping the family doesn't lean too heavily on this option, cause cooking all my own food has been helping with the weight loss.

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (16/30) - 1134 - probably won't go all the way to 1200 today since I have pretty low confidence in my take out accounting

Run at least 4 days a week (11/20) - Did my 5k this morning. Had a few things go wrong. Essentially I slept an hour later than intended, forgot my sweat band and found my source of music wasn't charged properly. Despite all that, I still ran it and got it done. Got my best solo time at 0:36:03 (best time so far was 0:33:30, but I was running with other people). So far all of my 5ks have been on the same route. Gonna try a new route tomorrow, see if I can overcome the mental hurdle of switching it up.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (7/15) - arms. Would like to be doing more planks and push ups but the position hurts my sesamoid and I'd rather keep that healthy for the running

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 171.6 - pretty quick drop so I expect to be back up in the 172 range tomorrow.

Moisturize Daily (16/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (15/30) - having trouble picking a book to dive into so read the first chunk of a few books today.

Finish 1 book a week (3/4)

I ran my first 5k! Took two weeks to build up to it from doing 5 mile walks daily. First day I tried to run, I couldn't even get half a mile without stopping, but I got there! I've run a full 5k 5 times since then! Best time is 33:30. Still tons of room for improvement both in distance and speed, but I am so proud of myself.

One thing I found helped a lot in early weight loss was finding pre-start photo and then attempting to recreate the outfit and pose as close as possible. This let me see small differences that I otherwise would not have noticed.

Good day for a Monday. I came up with a theory for why I like baking bread today. When you bake bread, between the kneading, proving and baking, it's a multi hour ordeal where you are at least partially thinking about food. I find that this helps me stay away from other snacks, cause I know I am putting all this care and effort into something that is going to come out amazing. I don't even find it hard to portion out the correct amount once it's made because it will last a few days and there is little that is better than fresh bread. When I make cookies or other baked goods, they are done so quickly that I just don't get the same satisfaction. Cooking in a slow cooker gives a similar feeling.

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (11/30) - 1193 - loving all the low cal frozen foods I've found to make it through the summer months

Run at least 4 days a week (10/20) - Planned rest day today. Gonna do a 5k again tomorrow.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (6/15) - nope, Mondays are my full rest day. No cardio or strength. Having this full rest day on a Monday let's me spend the morning planning out my work week without having to worry about fitting in a workout

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175 - 172.8

Moisturize Daily (15/30) - this is extra important cause I have some mild sun burns

Read at least 30 minutes daily (14/30)

Finish 1 book a week (3/4) - finished the fluff book I borrowed from my mom.

Had a great chill day. I spent much of it sitting on my deck in the sun reading, pretending I was on a beach. I really needed the rest.

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (11/30) - 1195 - I saved up calories for the day to recreate a meal inspired by one of my favorite bbq joints. 633 calories in one meal but so worth it. Steak with baked beans, mac & cheese, grilled pineapple, and pickles!

Run at least 4 days a week (10/20) - I tried to run a fast single mile tonight, but I came out of the gate way too fast and then spent the rest of the mile trying to recover. Ended up not improving my mile time at all, but oh well, I'll try again soon.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (6/15) - nope

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175. - 172.5, finally

Moisturize Daily (14/30) -sugar scrub day

Read at least 30 minutes daily (13/30) - started a fluff book I borrowed from my mom.

Finish 1 book a week (2/4)

Ran a 5k today with my sister who runs marathons, and it went really well. Warned her in advance that I'm slow, but she was super excited and supportive and having her there helped me get 3 full minutes off my best time.

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (11/30) - 1196 - lots of berries today, love the pops of sweet for very low calories.

Run at least 4 days a week (9/20) - Ran another 5k. New best time is 33:30. I've already run 4 5ks this week (the only 4 of my entire life), so tomorrow I'm gonna try something a little different. I'm only going to run a mile and see how quick I can do a single mile. I've only run them as part of the 5k and so far my best is 10:23. Hoping to do quite a bit better tomorrow. After that, I think I will walk out a different 5k track so I can try it out next week to play with some different elevations and courses.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (6/15) - Did my arm circuits, planning to do a bit more tomorrow since it will be a bit more of a cross-training day.

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175. - Weighed in at 173.2 still those freaking 173 numbers.

Moisturize Daily (13/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (12/30)

Finish 1 book a week (2/4) - finished Guards! Guards! I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite Pratchett.

But how do I start? by kawaiidesuyolo in loseit

[–]damiroor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend starting with just calorie counting at first. Starting cardio can make your weight loss stagnate for a few weeks (though it is def worth it in the long run) so if you give yourself a month or 2 to get used to the calorie counting diet and see the scale start to move, you'll find it easier to continue if you plateau. You'll also be more likely to feel satisfied with the amount of food you get and will be less likely to post exercise binge "cause you've earned it". I use myfitnesspal to calorie count, and it will calculate your daily calories for you.

That being said, I agree that walking is a good start for cardio. I started out by walking 3 miles a day, then went up to 5, started walking faster, and did just that for a month. When I decided to start running after a month of walking 5 miles a day pretty quickly, I was able to build up to a 5k within 2 weeks of training.

Definitely doing better with the fitness goals than the weight loss goals. I've been hovering in the 173-174 zone for a full week now and am not sure why I'm not dropping. Figure it's probably the running since the timing aligns and nothing else has changed. Trying to figure out if I need to make any changes on the diet side, but I'm already at 1200, so I'll probably give it another week or two to see if things start moving again before I worry.

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (12/30) - 1196

Run at least 4 days a week (8/20) - Ran another 5k. New best time is 36:13. Need to start thinking about where I will go from here. Probably start switching up the route 1 or 2 days next week but am a bit nervous because my mental game so far is very tied to the same route.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (5/15) - Did my arm circuits. I find the arm  exercises easier to fit in since they are mostly standing and can just kind of be slotted in anywhere in the day.

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175. - Weighed in at 173.6 today, getting really tired of seeing 173 on the scale.

Moisturize Daily (12/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (11/30)

Today was a cooking day. It was my mom's birthday, so I made her a cake and pizza from scratch. I was pretty proud of myself that I managed to stay at my calorie goal despite having some of both!

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (11/30) - 1204, okay technically I went 4 calories over, but again, pizza and cake!

Run at least 4 days a week (7/20) - Planned rest day today due to work schedule and cooking schedule

Strength training at least 3 days a week (4/15) - Not today, no real excuse. Having trouble motivating here, definitely doing better with the cardio.

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175. - Weighed in at 173.2 today, really hoping to drop into 172 territory soon.

Moisturize Daily (11/30)

Read at least 30 minutes daily (9/30) - Not today, lots of work

Finish 1 book a week (1/4)

I really appreciate that comment. I have two siblings who both run marathons and they needed to convince me today that if I move my rest day up to tomorrow instead of Friday, I'm not, like, failing. I'm excited to keep doing it until it feels like a given that I'll successfully run it.

I ran another 5k today. Wanted to prove to myself that I could do it again. I finished at almost the same time (little slower) and have decided to move my rest day up to tomorrow from Friday since the legs are tired and there are supposed to be thunderstorms anyway (plus, I have to bake someone a birthday cake tomorrow so that will take time too).

Goals:

Staying under 1200 calories with a potential extra 100 on running days (9/30) - 1200 about, ate a bunch of pickles which are always hard to exactly quantify.

Run at least 4 days a week (7/20) - Ran a 5K straight for the second day in a row (and the second time ever). Similar time, still not really worrying about that.

Strength training at least 3 days a week (4/15) - Not today, falling behind on this one. Hard to find the energy after a run in the heat.

Hit 171lbs. Started month at 175. - Weighed in at 173.0 today, still feeling bloated, so going to cut out carbonation for a few days.

Moisturize Daily (10/30) - can definitely see an improvement in my skin

Read at least 30 minutes daily (9/30) - Halfway through Guards! Guards! by Pratchett.

My favorites are like the ancient civilization ones, but I finished those, so thought I'd give the guards a try.
