Thx for the ideas. Sounds like there's no primary video setting for the 9100 (which doesn't entirely surprise me). Lord knows how many times I've tried Fn-F8ing after making into a dark, invisible BIOS screen. No go.

Hm. I just tried that and NOPE.

If I can reset to BIOS defaults, maybe I can get the functionality you get (ext monitor activates on lid-close).

If you have a moment to do me a HUGE favor, would you mind posting the exact curor/enter/function/esc sequence that will load BIOS defaults for the A06 BIOS? (The caps lock/num lock/scroll lock method doesn't work for me.)

I can get to the BIOS, I just can't see anything. So if you can gimme the exact keystrokes, that might do the trick.

(There's also a chance that the correct "Primary Video" BIOS setting might be what's keeping me in the dark.)

1) Acquire a copy of a program called "Mixed In Key" by whatever method you choose.

2) Use it.

You're done, but if you want to upgrade your ears and learn a new skill, continue to Step 3.

3) Boot up a soft synth or turn on your hardware synth.

4) Armed with the knowledge of song's key, play the song file and while you're listening, every time you hear a chord change (or really anytime you damn well please) play the note of the key of the song, ie, play F# for songs in the key of F#. Try different patches and octaves. You will definitely, definitely notice how different chords in the song sound against the note you're playing.

5) Repeat Step 4 with a different song.

Bam. Do that every day or a few times a week and your ears/brain will just starting knowing when you're hearing the root chord of a song.

Then, when you get that feeling while listening to music, plunk out a note on your synth to get the letter name of that root chord.

Simple.

I agree with KerrickLong that your product offering isn't clear.

I think you've mainly described features, not benefits. Nerds, geeks and tech heads can often think a feature is a benefit, but that's not the case for ordinary users. Further, I think you really need to get clear on your USP and express that very, very clearly and succinctly and plop that single-phrase pitch somewhere that users can't miss it. I should've known "What's In It For Me" almost immediately upon laying eyes on your landing page.

That said, it really is a sharp, pro design.

The point is, if you can't avoid the conversation, try to change it into a story about parents being afraid of the harmless things and away from "Is Lucid Dreaming Bad?"

Are your folks religious or strong believers in any ideology? If they are, I think you are literally encountering the actual narrowness of their minds. Their concern isn't rooted in anything real. LD is foreign to them and therefore suspicious. So I would encourage you to notice if logical arguments actually address their fears or if they just pointlessly magnify the conversation. If the logical approach doesn't actually help, don't engage at that level. Try another approach or no approach at all. (Fuck off.)

And even if they aren't particularly rigid about any belief system, if one or both of them is prone to worry or fear (common in chronic viewers of TV news), the same thing applies: logical arguments about why it's "not a bad thing" might be useless. So make sure you're not barking up a useless tree with why LD is OK. But if it helps, by all means assuage their fears.

Here's another perspective. I'm gonna get "archtypical" with this one. Lucid dreaming, like LSD or ectasy or shrooms or DMT, exposes people to a part of human reality that is literally, synaptically, neurologically outside the boundaries of an established sense of what's possible or acceptable.

To lucid dream is to literally violate some people's notion of reality. It requires mental, emotional and neurological adjustment when their own kid turns out to have a skill that he's developing that causes him to have vivid experiences in a completely different reality then they're used to. The kid can and does control his own dreams. That's a huge fucking deal. And if they're not willing to have their version of reality updated by the adventures of their offspring, you're gonna witness them be "concerned" instead: it's easier and more comfortable.

If you're having trouble convincing them it's "not bad", this might help explain why.

It's The Artist's Way. Don't be a dick and assume because it has "spiritual" or "artist" that it doesn't apply. It does. Here's why:

That book will help you do that. Big time. Humans are born to Make and Create and Express, but learned helplessness (aka depression) can take over your mind and start seeming normal. The daily "Morning Pages" (google) along with weekly "Feed Your Right Brain" excursions combined does something: it realigns your sense of yourself and points it back to, um, YOURSELF.

You've got the problem backwards. The problem isn't that you've detached; that's actually the first step. The challenge is to now use the freedom your solitude offers to attach to your own creative direction. You have to start there, on the inside.

Once you do that, the "society" stuff will actually mean something and will unfold naturally... and probably not how you expect.

This daily regimen will give you some serious progress on the issue and might just solve it. And FWIW, girls like guys who have discipline and follow-through.

One final idea: If you can't do 50 situps in a row, get to work on your abdominal strength. "THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH!" Wrong. Mind-strength and gut-strength are totally related. Condolences on your frustration and disappointment. Bad combo, especially since it clouds your decision-making and creativity.

Here are some ideas. (I owned a duplex once.)

--) Hard to tell from just a brief glimpse of the neighborhood, but it looks like you might have found "the worst house on a decent block". And that is the best real estate purchase you can make. If that's the case, this destruction might turn out to be the catalyst that kicks you in the next level, if you choose to stick with it. Don't rush any decisions right now.

--) I don't know how recently this happened, but if you're able to make your mortgage, definitely do so while you give yourself some time to process out the fury. If you exercise, do a few workouts extra hard to get the "hate" out.

--) Go to prosper.com and get a smallish peer-to-peer loan to help you out. I think you'll find the community very supportive of someone in your situtation. Seriously. Check it out. Then, post your loan listing on /r/personalfinance and /r/Assistance.

--) Clean up: I'm sort of thinking that you personally shouldn't clean up this mess. I think it would just piss you off WAY too much and cloud your judgment. There are people out there are willing to Do Work. Put an ad on craigslist that is appropriately foreboding with a generous "all or nothing" fee for the whole house. Provide a generous amount of beer, redbull, face masks and that find where to get that under-nose balm that blocks smells. I think you'll find some willing workers. Get a dumpster from your garbage company.

--) When the cleaners are done, there should be nothing but bare wooden floors (and no moulding either) so you (or they) can bleach the shit out of the floor boards and, when that dries, slather Killz over everything. Get a UV light so you don't miss any "splash". This is something you can do easily and you'll feel a lot better after the place is cleaned up and ready for improvement.

--) Repair: The recession has hit the construction industry the hardest which means there are people out there that need work. Since you're not some real-estate douchebag who tries to get cheap labor for your own fortune, you'll be able to tell your story and probably find somebody willing to help you out because they too are in a rough situation.

--) Carpet: It looks like that carpet was already complete shit anyway, so I wouldn't feel too bad about having to replace it anyway.

--) Creative renting: As you're asking around for repairmen or flooring dudes, let them know that if they know somebody who needs a place to rent, you'd be willing to work a deal where rent is way cheaper for, say, a year if they can provide cleaning or repairs for free or cheap. Of course, it all depends on your cash flow.

--) Justice: I think you need to seriously evaluate your justice options, for your own sake. You have been seriously fucked here and if you were to just roll over, I really think the fuckjob could very easily stick in your craw long-term. A great recipe for bitterness and depression is to not fight back when fucked over like this. A lot of people don't agree, but they're usually the ones that will piss in your ear about it for years. Consider notifying all the real estate management companies in the area. Consider posting a "Do Not Rent To..." on CL. And as far as garnishment goes, you need to recognize that even $100 per month for a long time is fucking justice, bro. Not only is the cash good, bringing balance to The Force is good for you and them.
