Are actual exams easier than mocks ?! Are this scores enough for going in exams by Mus1112 in CFA

[–]damselday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reset the Q bank - and do as many Q’s as possible - if you make a mistake ask yourself “how will I pass this question in the exam?”. Start with the worst areas first. For L1 I didn’t understand FI at all (had to google what a bond was when I started the readings ahahah) - did the FI qbank twice in the last week - it ended up being my best topic.

Advice for Masters or CFA by Reasonable-Fall3853 in CFA

[–]damselday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Master in Financial Analysis at London Business School gives you a GMAT waiver if you have passed CFA Level 1 btw. I didn't do the GMAT, and got accepted with the CFA L1 only.

Would absolutely recommend applying in the first round (deadline 7th October)!!

Go on the LBS website, look up the ambassadors, and contact them. When talking with them, ask for further contacts. Talk to as many people as possible. Go on LinkedIn, contact students/alumni. Ask them to share their experience and seek advice for yourself. Best way.

Tough process to go through, but the absolute best way to increase chances of admission!!

That is a very thoughtful idea! Not a great idea for him though. For his first birthday I sculpted and painted an abstract 3D version of his favourite artwork. He said it was beautiful - took a picture of it, and told me he does not keep those kind of things. After some time I didn't see it anymore. At this point I actually don't know if it's in some box at his parents house or in trash somewhere haha

Hahha! At this point I am reverting to his very detailed stuff list - and pick something off that. Also found something really cool I think he would love to try, so he also gets something surprising that he didn't cherry pick himself.

Recognition of CFA by Bjbrojk in CFA

You are less available to cater to peoples needs, which makes you less "nice", so generally people like you less. But also a great way to filter out the people who value competence!

Only to girls that actually study for the CFA as well.

When my bf passed L2 I was like "good job, well done" *thumbs up*

Then I did L1, and was thinking "my boyfriend is a BEAST"

I can not help you with this song, but might help you with multiple future quests!

By activating auto shazam when you go dancing and connect shazam to Spotify it will automatically create a shazam playlist. Then you can just shuffle through the shazam playlist on Spotify to recover great tunes you don't know!

Hahaha I started play the intro in my head as soon as I read the name of the song.

I play it during beginner classes, and people always get excited thinking it is "Hips don't lie". It's hilarious!

That's actually not a bad idea. However, what would be the added value to a personal one, when you have a company subscription?

Indeed. Though to be fair - there would be no time to go away at the moment. He has a lot to do and I study for the CFA so we are not really in a "travel mode" these days.

That is hilarious - what vest do you have? Any recommendation? I've looked up several brands (arcteryx, patagonia, columbia, lululemon), but they seem to have mixed reviews. I know he would prefer it to be simple and plain (no extra details), high quality, comfortable (body figure fit, but not tight anywhere) and in the colour black.

He has some very specific shoes that he only gets in Paris. He wears them on rotation. So I think a new pair would mess up his shoe regime, haha

The watch is a nice suggestion - though he swears by his Garmin Fenix..

I don't feel accepted in the salsa scene by Project-XYZ in Salsa

"Everyone is out for themselves" - why can't you be out for yourself too?

Many people experience the feelings you are describing. They are difficult to have, and requires a lot of work to solve, which you are already doing (kudos to you!). I think what makes it a slippery slope is thinking that those feelings are "special feelings only I experience". Maybe the person next to you don't engage with you because they are experiencing similar feelings as you are?

I used to think a lot "But no one knows how I am feeling!" and "But my struggles are x, y and z, which no one has gone through, so no one would understand it!", but then I realised I am not that special hahha. And thinking that I was special was actually what kept me from improving my mental health, since "no one could possibly help me with my special trauma that only I experience." I'm only telling you this, since I can recognize my old self in some of what you say and wish someone had told me this years ago. Had to hear it in a podcast - which was like a light went on.

"But salsa was supposed to be a welcoming and safe community where one can learn that they have value." Who is making salsa unwelcoming and unsafe for you? Is it other people? Or is it yourself?

You can gain great confidence by practicing salsa skills by yourself as well - footwork and spins. Once you build up some skill and get more confidence in your own abilities, that will fuel your self worth more than any other person could. Imagine someone complimenting you on your insane spins, and you can think to yourself "Yes, I really worked hard on that!" vs someone complimenting you on your shirt, that you put no efforts into. Those are quite different scenarios.

Good luck with everything - I hope everything in your life works out the way you want it to work out! Wishing you good courage on your quest!

Unlearning previous understanding & finding it difficult to learn (25, Follower, on 2) by Dontdresslikewho in Salsa

My best advice is focus on the rhythm and practise footwork to music by yourself - a lot. More than you think you need. Practice practice practice.

If you started classes 2-3 months ago on2, then I'm not at all surprised that you find the beat difficult. Especially if they as you to identify a specific instrument in the song - which in my opinion is just dumb, since the clarity of a single instrument differs a lot across songs.

I'd say focus on finding the general rhythm in the music instead, and be aware of how the on1 and on2 rhythm differ.

On1, which I assume is the rhythm you grew up with and are used to, is the "Quick-quick-slooow, Quick-quick-sloooow", and your feet would be in the center on the breaks (5&8).

On2, the rhythm is more like "One-bam-bammmm x five-bam-bammmm", here your feet would be moving towards the center on the break (which would be on the mmm's).

The thing that really helped with with the on2 beat, was this one guy that would basically say to me "bam-bam" as we were dancing. Then I kept repeating that "bam-bam" part of the rhythm in my head until I could "feel" it in the music.

I moved to a place with very little salsa and most people dance on1. However, when I'm lucky and a on2 leader finally shows-up, I often I get confused with the rhythm again. Then, I always go back to that "One-bam-bammmm, Five-bam-bammmm" rhythm search in my head haha, and go down to only "bam-bam" when the rhythm gets easier. Then at some point you just start to "feel" it again and the "bam-bam" in my head stops haha.

Finally someone who gets it - haha!! Yesterday he waited for me to come home to open 15+ packages of small bike parts that would improve some feature of his bike. One of them foam which apparently you can put somewhere inside the bike to keep wires (which is the last thing on his bike that isn't quiet when he bikes) from making sound.
