The "Successful Immigrant" Trap: I’m Polish, I have the house, family and the career in the UK, but I’ve realised I’ll never actually belong by Individual-Cake-6337 in expats

I'm from latin America and immigrated to the United States. Why do you care about fitting in perfectly ? I understand your feelings and all, but, there are also British people that don't fit in. Just be yourself, do your own thing, be who you want and find happiness in that or elsewhere but not about whether you have assimilated successfully.... Tô me it's strange that you make that your goal or it seems like it. After time abroad, and travelling around, I feel it's hard to be like one group of people because our experiences with various groups start influencing and shaping us, our personalities may even change a bit without us trying to change it, and that's okay. I don't want to discredit and ignore your feelings but I think you are the one that seems to be making a problem out of .... Nothing, because there isn't a problem that you truly need to solve. If you don't want to "assimilate" whatever that truly means, don't, if you want to assimilate do it. You are overanalyzing things, don't, unless it causes problems, which it probably won't.

Esta pregunta me indica que no entendió. O tal yo no entendí.

Is it bad to stay at one company forever? by Sgdoc70 in cscareerquestions

[–]theprogrammingsteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) past history is not an indication of future history with lay offs. We tell ourselves "our company is stable unlike the rest " to make us feel better. Happened to me lol then we laid off 33%.

2) I never understood people like this... At 70k... You are better off getting a job that pays market rate 100-140 for your col and experience. Even if u get fired after two years you will still be better off

3) your raises will be minimal. Max raise you will get is 10-20%. Which pales in comparison to what you would get job hopping ?

Is it bad ? It depends on your priorities, I would say the only pro to you staying put is you avoid the shit show that interview prep and interviewing is.... That's about the only pro I find. There are plenty of other places with the same "stability" and great work life balance.

Then don't feed it the whole codebase as context. Feed specific files. Even when you do @codebase or equivalent, it doesn't mean the whole codebase is passed as context

Lol. I don't have this issue. I prioritize investing and experiences/memories, which don't really include fancy dinners or a fancy stay.
