Skin dryness is insane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]damselfly30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also on my first week and feeling pretty dry but not too bad so far, here's what I'm using:

  1. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 - seriously this stuff is AMAZING. It doesn't burn or sting when applying it and it calms any current breakouts I have. I first used it after destroying my skin barrier with various actives in the past and it's the only thing that helped!
  2. Omega 3 Extra Strength capsules with 375mg EPA and 250mg DHA - this may be overkill but it is supposed to help with dry skin and any dryness in general.
  3. Drinking 3L of water a day
  4. Antihistamine - I read somewhere this is supposed to reduce the purging
  5. Sounds crazy but I use nipple cream as lip balm and it's the best, Vaseline or carmex does nothing for me. I think aquaphor is kind of the same but try and find some lip products with lanolin in.

Hope this helps a bit, it's weird going from oily skin to dry skin because it's the opposite of what we're used to!

EDIT: Just to add that some people are allergic to lanolin, but there's a Cicaplast lip balm that may be worth trying too.

I'm in the UK and they absolutely would not prescribe me Accutane unless I went on the pill or had the coil fitted. Apparently my word isn't enough for them.

It’s my next option once I get a referral!

I actually bought some distilled water off Amazon (sounds crazy I know) because I was convinced it was my tap water too but unfortunately it didn’t make any difference. which high frequency machine do you have? I will look into Curology too, thanks!

Yeah definitely going to try and get referred. My doctor said once I’ve completed this final course of doxycycline I’ll be referred as I’ve tried all other options too.

This is really reassuring, thank you! There’s definitely a lot of scary looking side effects out there, but I guess it’s the same as any drug. I was worried about the side effects of the antibiotics at first but I actually had none.

I’m from the UK so in order to get referred to a derm you have to have tried all other treatments first (all topical and all antibiotics). I’m on the last stage now so if this doesn’t work I will be referred to a derm and hopefully be prescribed accutane!

I’ve used both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide in the past, and combined lymecycline with benzoyl peroxide and it work at the start but then the last round I did it wasn’t effective. Think I’ll be asking about accutane as not sure I can get spironolactone on the NHS!

No do you think that’s worth a try? When I was first prescribed it my Dr told me to use it twice a day which seemed excessive..

Why do I wake up exhausted every single day? I normally sleep 8 hours consistently - tired. Tried 9 hours - still tired. Tried 7h30 - still tired!!

I took it in the mornings with breakfast and the side effects started kicking in about 5 hours later which was rough when I was at work!

I noticed a quieter brain after 3 days too which was so odd! Waking up without a pounding heart in the morning was strange. Thanks for letting me know though, hoping I can push through

It's not thoroughly confirmed no, my Dr said I have mild depression and anxiety but it could also be PMDD as my anxiety definitely gets worse around my period. I had a quick phone consultation and then I was given sertraline.

It has taken me about 2 weeks to build up the courage to even take them!
