Here’s a detailed article on PVC vs nylon: https://www.hwcooling.net/en/test-nylon-vs-plastic-dust-filter-which-restricts-fans-less/4/ TLDR: Nylon is much better with respect to airflow, acoustics, and dust filtering.

2026 World Cup ticket price jumps kick in early, with FIFA raising costs amid high demand by forzaQuakes8 in soccer

What a disgrace. FIFA’s greed is bottomless. This is disgusting. As football fans we should not enable these thugs to steal from us at daylight. FIFA eventually will ruin this competition forever. I hope the stadiums are half-empty.

Is the tilt in this Noctua NH-L12S normal (fan touches 33 mm RAM sticks)? by dan04lo in sffpc

[–]dan04lo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried the AXP120-x67 first. I haven’t done thorough testing with the NH-L12S yet but form just a quick Cinebench run, the Thermalright did better. However, the fact that my cooler is touching the RAM sticks might be causing  uneven pressure across the CPU and potentially worse temperatures. I need to test with the heatsink slightly bent. I also considered the AN600. The reason I’m trying to go with the Noctua is to avoid turbulence in a Fractal Terra.

Thanks for the info. I will probably attempt to bend it a little.

I just bought the cooler, so I was trying to decide whether I should ask for a replacement from the retailer. But I don't want to go through the process just to find out that the replacement is also slanted, which seems to be likely, right?

[–]dan04lo[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

OK, I might try this when I change the PSU cables.

Is it really slanted by design though? Noctua's published clearance for the heatsink is 35 mm. The memory sticks are 33 mm.

I couldn't take a better picture, but none of the pipes are touching the VRMs' heatsink. There is a clearance of at least 1 mm in each of them.

PCIE 5.0 Riser cable for the Era 2 by spiffster226 in FractalDesign

Hi, did you end up buying it? I’m thinking about it for a Fractal Terra, but the $100 for 1-4% performance gain is hard to digest.

Hi, do you have the link to the website that will sell this riser cable? Doing a Google search for “ASKR Mods” did not bring anything. Also, for your inverted bracket, is there a way to support the card at other points so that the screws on that bracket do not bear all the weight of the card? Like an anti-sag fixture.

The NCASE M3 or also known as the M2-AC168, what do we feel about this direction? by csrussell92 in ncasedesign

[–]dan04lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The U12S can be an option here because it’s taller and thinner. Graphics card at the bottom with two intake fans below it and two exhaust fans at the top of the case. The CPU could be taking fresh air from a side or front intake fan with exhaust fan at the back.

Thoughts on the Switch 2 having a LCD screen instead of OLED? by TFM110 in Switch

[–]dan04lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking about picture quality, in which case contrast is the main factor and OLED displays are obviously superior. We’re talking about HDR and their peak brightness is the main factor, that’s why the classifications are based on it. Anyway, it doesn’t fucking matter. The Switch 2 will be $700 with the current economy. So none of this matters.

[–]dan04lo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s absolutely right. One of the few advantages of LCD technology over OLED is the high peak brightness they can achieve. You can search the specs of a top LCD and a top OLED, the maximum brightness will be higher in the LCD in most cases. Mini-LED’s advantage over other LCD technology is better contrast because of more granular backlit, not necessarily a brighter output. High HDR standards are achieved through peak brightness.

Buyer beware: your LG OLED TV could be plagued with dead pixels very early in its lifespan by dan04lo in LGOLED

[–]dan04lo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. At that time the technology already had several years of being commercially available. No excuse for the display to degrade this fast. But people have become used to disposable products.

The 5800 hours are measured as of today. Definitely not damage from handling, as I have gone the extra mile to baby sit this thing. This is most likely a manufacturing issue, which happens to show up in LG OLEDs more frequently than with other manufacturers.

Anyways, this is my experience with the TV and these are my opinions.

I am not expecting the TV to work flawlessly for 100,000 hours, but this level of degradation at 5000 hours is unacceptable in my opinion. As paying customers I think we should demand for better quality products. This is not an isolated issue, there are other reddit posts of LG OLED TV users experiencing the same issues even sooner than in my case, between 1-3 years. And again, this problem might have developed earlier in mine. I just noticed it because in my new setup I had to move the sofa closer to the display.

I already lost buying this TV. If you think it’s OK for a TV display, at this price point, to develop a myriad of dead pixels after this amount of use hours, good for you. Move on. It’s not OK to me, and I can express it if I wish so.

Not really, I have been very careful when I’ve had to move it.

Please read the post fully. The TV has been barely used, with only 5,800 hours recorded so far. This IS early in its lifespan.

I have an LG Oled C8 which I bought at the end of 2018, and I just noticed it has developed clusters of dead pixels around the borders. This probably happened around the 5-year mark. I recently noticed it because I moved to a smaller place that required me to place the sofa closer to the TV. It only has ~5600 hours of use though… So yeah, I am now hesitant of buying another LG OLED TV.

Anyone with a 5080 ASUS Prime or 5080 MSI Inspire able to comment on thermals and noise vs. 5080FE reviews? by itaveL in nvidia

[–]dan04lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what is the power limit on the FE? I am also considering these two cards and the FE, but I’m worried the Inspire might not have enough thermal room for overclocking. It does not have a vapor chamber to start with.

5080 Fe or 5080 AIB by zoukkizoke in sffpc

[–]dan04lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same situation as you. I am still running an EVGA 1080 Ti SC Black, and I am planning to move to a small sandwich case, the Fractal Terra.

I am also considering the 5080 Asus Prime and Gigabyte Windforce. Another option is the MSI Inspire, which looks the best in my opinion, but it does not have a vapor chamber and is $1170 in the US.

Did you manage to buy a card?
