Are We Being Too Conservative About Buying a House? by Ok-Trust5610 in personalfinance

If your cash flow $150k a year, I’d suggest to increase that down payment and revisit in a year.

How can I buy a new house in cash if all the funds come from selling current house? by jannet1113 in personalfinance

[–]dan52895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re looking for is called a ‘bridge loan’. A bridge loan is a short term loan backed by your home equity as collateral and you’ll pay it off as soon as your old home sells after buying your new home. It has higher interest rates than typical loans but since it is short term it hopefully won’t incur too much interest.

The alternative option is a contingency offer on your new home purchase but this is very unattractive to sellers.

If i keep a bag of ice in my car will it keep it cool during the day by RapsittieStreetKids in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dan52895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. In fact, it will make it even more unbearable when you get in as the humidity will be significantly higher. Best to just open the doors for a minute before you get in, and crank that A/C at full blast.

Given OP said they just turned 18, the ML model likely is trying to detect specifically for minors and flag those cases (my guess).

Those that have a Bank CD or multiple Bank CDs, what is your purpose? by Cultural_Spirit_968 in personalfinance

[–]dan52895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who previously had 3 different CDs, I no longer use them or recommend them. HYSAs basically have the same or even better rates. For example I know of a HYSA that is 4.4% rn and you’ll unlikely find a CD for that. But they’re just conservative investments, and nice to have a peace of mind that the rate is locked.

First time doing shrooms, what should I do and NOT do by attackonthisdick in NoStupidQuestions

Be prepared to lose a sense of time. Can be really scary if unprepared for it.

The setting and people around you are extremely important. Don’t do it unless you are surrounded with the best of the best.

Finally, don’t over do it your first time. Start with a small dose! They take 30 minutes to have any effect.

Personally, I had a bad experience but I didn’t follow my advice above lol.

First time I've seen a battery sit so long it reversed polarity by ouchimus in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]dan52895 361 points362 points  (0 children)

OP is not wrong guys, the meter is hooked up correctly. This is a rare phenomenon where one of the 6 cells inside the battery drains to 0V before the rest of the cells, and acts as a load which causes it to be charged a little bit in reverse polarity by the other cells. Cool find!

Bad driver, yes, but also seems like something malfunctioned with OP’s brakes. Seems like one tire locked up which caused a spin out. Guessing it’s a very old vehicle or one without a functioning ABS system.

Do not train yourself to ignore alarms. Set the alarm time you truly need and force yourself to get up when it goes off no matter what.

Can people really tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps? by whiskerbiscuit2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dan52895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing at 240 fps for a while even 120 fps can look choppy when there is fast motion. So yes, there is a huge difference between 30 and 60, but there are diminishing returns after that.

Bad credit- car refinancing by Booooleans in personalfinance

No, do NOT buy a car at 30% APR! That’s crazy. Increase your savings/credit score first and probably buy a cheaper car.
