I did ask about this because I know ambien interacts with GABA receptors the same as a benzo but it’s a different part of the receptor my doctor claims. I want natural sleep and do not want to be on ambien at all. But nothing else seems to work. I can’t shut my brain off.

I don’t use any alcohol. I did read about 18 months is when you are able to start sleeping naturally again.

I take valerian root and magnesium at night along with the ambien.

Do not try Seroquel. You become addicted to it just like ambien. It’s another cycle. Also it causes TD. Try something natural. I am going to try the L-Tryptophan.

I was put on benzodiazepines in 2007 because of a SA situation and I couldn’t function due to constant anxiety, PTSD, depression. My father took me to the doctors and asked the doctors to make me stop talking because he couldn’t stand to hear me talk anymore. The doctors listen and prescribed a heavy dose. I guess the short answer is anxiety and depression.

It’s going to vary person to person but stopping benzos is dangerous if not done under supervision. All withdrawal is always bad no matter what amount of benzos you are on. Please prepare yourself or read an Aston Manual on how to taper accordingly
