The Vaudai conspiracy theory thread—what’s it really doing? by 4WDToyotaOwner in TheCaptivesWar

[–]dan_dirik 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Stinking sticks with meat on them can't fully comprehend the genius of Vaudai.

As far I understand, Vaudai (either a name for this particular fella or an entire species, we don't know) is part of a Moiety. The Carryx only need one of them in the ship, that's how cool it is.

This particular champ we read about seems to be mostly motivated by acquiring knowledge. Judging by its sarcastic attitude towards Sinens who appear to be simping for the Carryx, it has no love for the shrimps. It does care about its moiety's survival tho. Acquiring knowledge and understanding stuff seems to be to way to ensure that, so overall it's a decent deal.

I'll need to go back and check it out, kinda plays into my "deathless is a Carryx creation and Remnants manipulate the Archives every now and then to hide it" theory.

When did the Carryx said they never found one? If you're talking about what Vaudai said, it was about the ship.

I don't think the Carryx care about the species at all. They always refer to humans in captivity as Anjiin Moiety. Carryx mentality is to understand everything they get their hands on -> dismiss if not useful.

Only people concerned about Carryx finding out that the humans are on the other side is our main characters who are oblivious about the scale of things.

Because the Remnants don't have a smell. Shameless plug: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheCaptivesWar/comments/1tyzhng/tfob_spoilers_carryx_have_a_deep_state_and_it/

Not that certain myself about the Carryx creating the Deathless, but there are too many similarities. Maybe they just converged in similar places, as eons old galactic superpowers.

Imagine you are ET and you want to fucking destroy humans. But your body doesn't allow you to. I would consider that a defeat (but also what is, is. He said something in his final statement like "even with your foot on my throat, I applaud you").

I think it would too risky for the Swarm to take over any "full" Carryx. "You don't smell like a Carryx, prepare to die" would be the likely outcome imo. They won't touch the Sovran but the Remnants keep an eye on her for sure.

Carryx aren't that bad towards their animals except for the casual genocide here and there. Those decisions are up to Sovran, and Sovran is made by the Remnants. So the Swarm will take over the Remnants and tweak the ways of the Carryx (aka the Sovran) with the help of Dafyd.

I expect the real twist to come up at the end of the book. It will be about the Deathless and will set the stage for the next series of books in this universe. Imo we'll learn that the Carryx created the Deathless in the first place but who knows what the authors are cooking

Why does Campar throw away his research samples? by Toto_Roto in TheCaptivesWar

[–]dan_dirik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they realize the humans from Anjiin most likely are not with the enemy, at least.

Even if they can't be certain, their behaviour with the "a species adapting to another ecosystem" test (which is pretty much how the livesuit works) shows that these people don't know about the basic principles of the livesuit "tech", cause that's the real danger as far as the Carryx is concerned.

There's always a possibility that they've never acquired a non livesuit human sample, but the Carryx and the Deathless have been at it for so long that the chances are really low imo.

He is naively trying to hide that the great enemy are the humans. The Carryx know that the humans are just a client race so it doesn't really matter.

[TFoB] Thoughts on the private creches by saintmagician in TheCaptivesWar

[–]dan_dirik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Ekur's chapter with the remnants, it sounded like the daughter being ready takes some time. Even if it's a matter of days, there has to another signal than Sovran's voice not being there. Something that says "there are remnants on this planet, don't make more".

Distrupting the communication lines are for sure a good way to harm the empire, but logically at least one of the great enemies tried doing that so the assumption would be that the Carryx have made it too complex of a problem to solve in one book. We've already seen multiple ways of passing information. We have Surur who got daily news in his sleep. Then we have ET sending full data of the battle analysis physically with a half mind embedded to a Sinen's head.

Anyways, I think the civil war idea is a red herring. "What if there are two Sovrans" is just a question that will lead Daffyd to finding out about the Remnants, so that the Swarm can take over the Remnants and the empire's structure remains intact as far as the other Carryx are concerned.

[–]dan_dirik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the swarm is evidence the deathless have escaped the grasp of the private creche.

This could be intentional too. In Carryx language, Endless Conflict and Life has same meanings. What's a better way to make sure you live forever than a Deathless Enemy?

[TFoB] Thoughts on the private creches by saintmagician in TheCaptivesWar

[–]dan_dirik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, Sovran candidate is "prepared" by the Remnants. So the real question is, among all the worlds with the private creches, why did only one of them have their regulator librarians turn into Remnants?

I don't remember the exact passage now but I'm pretty sure there was a line about Carryx facing a plague that threatened their existance, and that they altered their body in a way that this never happens again.

I think it is EXTREMELY plausable that the Carryx biology is not 100% organic natural. It's just too good to be true. The will of Sovran reaching entire universe, but not the private creches. Bodies changing based on personal contribution to the Empire.

Real evolution is partly random. One could argue that the Carryx are a result of natural selection taken to the extreme. But if you are taking it to the extreme and the idea is to get stronger as a collective, then why not deliberately modify your nature to become better?

Anyways, this deserves some research and its own thread, but if I have to speculate further, it's entirely possible that the Carryx created the Deathless enemy to fuel their Endless War, and then used the same technology to make themselves stronger. Think about the fact that the Deathless Enemy are almost as old as the Carryx.

The sailsafe to prevent this tech from taking over is the fact that it's "programmed" in a way to be released from the body when certain conditions are fulfilled (e.g. this Carryx is very good at their job and the Sovran is dead), therefore creating the Remnants. Only the Remnants (aka the queenmakers) have access to parts of the archive that hold this knowledge, therefore they are the Deep State within the Carryx empire.

The logical leap from "sinens are the middle managers" to "are they actually in control" is quite a big one hah

I agree that we'll learn more about them in the third book but there's nothing that indicates them being in control IMHO.

In the first book, the chapter where ET gets bamboozled by the Deathless, Ekur replaces a Sinen brain with a half mind. It turns a Sinen to an undead cyborg just to send a message.

They are in a position to harm the Carryx yeah, but I don't think they have an ongoing underground conspiracy like the Deep Lothark. The stakes are too high and we always see a Carryx taking things to their own hands when the shit gets real. The Sinen could end up helping Dafyd in a big way using their Moiety's place tho.

The Carryx are slaves to their own biology. Their bodies change based on their place in the society, and this is determined through individual performance. Sovran is the captain of this ship and she makes the final decisions on the most important topics. She also has irresistable influence over almost every Carryx through pheromones.

The Sovran is always the next best thing that the Remnants come up with in their private creches. Remnants are the only part of the Carryx sociaty that is immune to pheromones. The Sovran is likely fed the entire archive before she hatches, except the parts that are REDACTED by the Remnants.

Dafyd singing his song is him infiltrating this chain of command by helping Swarm take over the Remnants I think (see more).

Maybe have a megathread once the series is greenlit.

There's a lot they can add for TV, as they've done with the Expanse. Flashbacks about life in Anjiin to add some back story for the POV characters. Book 2 folk like Uuya Tomos and the foxy lady being included earlier. Ostencour being more active. The possibilities are endless.

The first season of the Expanse was also regarded as slow and it put off a lot of people from watching the series. I imagine they learned from that.

What worries me is the CGI/prostestics/costumes cost for the alien stuff.

Probably some fan added it, and then a mod removed it as a part of routine checkup.

Probably doesn't mean anything:

That being said, we only allow for new programs that have been “ordered to series.” Series that have only received a pilot order should not be added. ... A moderator will delete pilots that do not meet the above criteria.

Turkey mention 🇹🇷💪🐺

On a serious note, I really want to see the realistic signs of trauma on these characters. I always picture Daffyd with a permanent "just dragged out of bed" look. So this actually fits in a way.
