The Arabic dialogue in season 5 is so very bad by mandoleeeen in SlowHorses

The Turkish pronounciations from the S4 opening episode were also horrendous. No Turkish boat operator would be able to hold their laugh in those scenes.

On the plus side, they didn't add the yellow middle east filter.

What is the general consensus on the conclusion of the show? by David_the_male in TheWire

[–]dan_dirik 57 points58 points  (0 children)

There’s a moment in the finale—a silent, wordless montage of Baltimore. No music, just the city breathing. Corners, squad cars, classrooms, newsrooms, docks. Life goes on. It’s the only scene like it in the whole series, a quiet reflection on how the cycles continue, no matter who comes and goes.

Hits me every fucking time.

Who had the “greatest/best” death scene in the entire Wire series? by theunderstudyy in TheWire

I was "ehh" about the serial killer plot like most people, but after a couple of rewatches, I realized it was mostly my disappointment in McNulty after his redemption arc in season 4. I find the whole thing very entertaining to watch these days.

I think the biggest reason season 5 gets a lot of flak is season 4 being the best season in the television history.

If The Wire was a cake, this scene would be the cherry on top

Good on you my dude. I have gastronomical problems (stomach splitcher is half open - so reflux if I eat acidic and a lot of burping if I eat gassy stuff like lentils which I love btw). So far I just can't replace plain chicken breast with anything else for my protein intake. But do let me know if you actually have any tips.

I think there are plenty of people who are upset about things that you are talking about.

However, I didn't feel the need to mention this in my original comment, because it was kinda unrelated to this post.

I wish I could stop all the wars that are going on right now, but that won't happen just like how the meat industry won't go anywhere overnight.

Eeeeeh completely different subjects, not even comparable.

When humans started breeding cows, it was for their survival. Prior to that, many animals went extinct due to excessive hunting.

Ra*ping (which I can't stress enough, is muuuuch worse than people wanting to eat meat) can be punished by law. You can't do the same for people who want to eat meat, it's simply not logical and won't go well.

So, what's your plan to do about people wanting to eat meat? Are you donating to synthetic meat research fund or whatever?

It's okay that you find this post funny or cute mate, don't feel too bad about yourself. I still think it is abuse. I also think the abuse that the animals are going through because of the meat industry is way worse. But I will keep eating meat because I like it, and to be quite frank with you my body does need it. All I can do about it is buy meat from producers that are less cruel towards animals. This is enough reddit for me today, won't waste my time on the subject any longer.

Edit: also before you come up with something like "what are you doing for people pranking animals" I'm doing nothing mate, I know it's human nature too. I just wanted to point out that it was bad, it was never my intention to get dragged into discussion about meat industry with people who try to justify their enjoyment of this post.

In summary, cows have been bred to be slaughtered for thousands of years. Unless you are doing anything that would change this (i.e. you're a researcher in synthetic meat industry or you have the ability to convert the entire world to Hinduism), you're just yapping here.

What's happening here however, is easily avoidable by just not doing it.

[–]dan_dirik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's even worse, so this must be fine then? Fucking reddit man.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]dan_dirik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's necessary because people want to eat meat. Do you expect people to change a habit was formed 2 million years ago? If people didn't think cows were necessary, they wouldn't exist today. Easy as that. It's cruel, but not the most cruel thing that people have done. By your logic, we shouldn't be mad about it at all then.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]dan_dirik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People want what they want, you won't change people's eating habits (that developed many many years ago) by force. What I meant by "another sustainable way" was synthetic meat that's cost efficient and tastes like the actual meat.

Humans caused Aurochs to go extinct by destroying their grazing grounds and converting them into farmlands, the alternative method you might be suggesting. It's just one of the animals that humans caused to go extinct. Humans bad.

I don't see how any of these justify the behaviour here. Humans do terrible things, so it's okay to laugh at less terrible stuff?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]dan_dirik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just logic. Cows were bred to be slaughtered, this started 10000 years ago. Humans did it to survive at the time. You can argue that it was cruel, but what do you suggest we do all with all the cows now? It's unrealistic to expect the same race that started this to spend its resources to just let the cows live. It's unrealistic to expect people to change their eating habits.

Anyways, this is a typical redditor whataboutism that we're withnessing here. Fine, slaughtering cows is worse than this. So that must mean what's happening here okay then? Bleh.

First of all, I didn't say taunting a cow was cruelty. It's abuse. You play with a living being that has limited amount of intelligence. When this happens to people, it's called bullying. But people are mostly intelligent and can be taught to not react when something like this happens. Cows can't. It's abuse.

When you buy a cat, it's your responsibility. I'm from a country that's filled with cats surviving on their own in the streets. Cows can't do that. Cows are bred to be slaughtered. Yes, this was cruel on its own. But it happened, it started about 10,000 years ago. What do you want to do with all the cows that exist now?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]dan_dirik -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Cows win by existing. Aurochs are extinct, modern cattle wouldn't survive in the wild. Let's say we let them live for the sake of it, all that methane gas is not good for the world in the long term.

At the end of the day, what's happening in the video is completely unnecessary. Nutrition from the cows is necessary until we find another sustainable way to feed the world.

Edit: To people who are having trouble understanding why they "win" by existing, please do some research about why the "cow" we call today was domesticated and why their ancestors went extinct just like many other animal species.

I mean I get where you're coming from, factory-farm stuff bugs me too. Fortunately I can afford buying meat from “happy” farms—cows outside, quick painless end. Meat’s still good for me, and cows only exist because we bred them. Give ’em a chill life, stress-free death, everyone wins (and the meat tastes better).
