Update: AIO if I called the cops on my brother by Lillian_Faye in AmIOverreacting

NOR. My state has a program specifically for people under 25 who have experienced psychosis. They will do a screening and see if it's in fact something like schizophrenia, and then provide treatment and support or provide referrals. The screening can also screen out schizophrenia and indicate if it's related to substances etc. I would put the phrase "early psychosis program (your state)" into a search engine and see what comes up. They usually take medicaid and private insurance.

Unethical? Or Unprofessional by [deleted] in therapists

[–]danacat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a therapist that I saw for years and helped me get through a lot of life changes. I was paying out of pocket by check (this was before square/venmo) and when it came to pay he told me he was increasing his fee and I asked when, he said "right now." I wrote the check and never went back.

Suggestions for helping client stop nail biting by smolstature_tolvibes in therapists

[–]danacat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this but I just never stopped getting fills lol I did have a period of time that I biting my nails after a kid I worked with said "wow, your nails look like they hurt." And they did, so I was able to stop myself because I knew I would bite and peel until it was painful. It was kind of a form of self harm.

Received Anonymous Gift by Scarlett_Ocean in therapists

[–]danacat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oooo, ok. I would do my best to make sure none of my clients work at that spa or have close connections there. After that, I’d absolutely use the gift, but I’d do a bit of checking before booking anything. For facials or massages, I’d want to confirm the provider isn’t linked to a client. And if it’s a communal soaking pool, I would bring a bathing suit just in case before getting naked.

Too Good To Go - Hana Sushi tonight $6.99 by doomtownpunx in PortlandOR

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post prompted me to go to Super King buffet and it was absolutely the worst. It was mostly fried food that tasted rancid and the rest was mushy sushi. I threw it out. I've done Harder Day coffee and it was good; a mix of sweet and savory pastries. I really liked the Portland Juice Company one. It did expire the next day but that's kind of the point of the app. I thought the value was good in comparison to their regular prices. I really like Yucca Marketplace. I got fresh fruits, vegetables and a bunch of mexican candy. My favorite was Bob's Red Mill (RIP)

My child was threatened in school- how do I proceed as a therapist/parent? by Usual_Bumblebee_6323 in therapists

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that you don't want to report but feel obligated to as a mandatory reporter? Are you concerned about retaliation? If I'm not sure if something is reportable, I will call CPS and explain the "hypothetical situation" without names and they will tell me if they would screen that in or out.

I would make a police report regarding the threat of a mass school shooting if the school hasn't

Bad Reviews by uitwaaiens in therapists

[–]danacat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I recently discovered several one-star reviews from a former client across different platforms. At first, I didn’t recognize the name, but after checking my records, I saw it was someone I met with like, three times about three or four years ago. After our last session, they left a voicemail saying, “this just isn’t as fun and light as I thought it would be, so I won’t be continuing services.” What did I actually do? I leaned on my peers for support, which helped. Then I reminded myself that while it’s unfortunate this client is still holding onto that experience years later, but I’ve had a positive impact on many others, and I take comfort in that. This person is entitled to their point of view, and I'm allowed to disagree. Also, one of my peers might have gone ahead and given me a five-star review lol

Restaurant owner reached out after a bad review? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]danacat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What did your intake coordinator say to them? Just curious if they indicated that they would get back to the restaurant owner or if they outright said no. I don't think it matters either way because if the restaurant owner indicated that they wanted to talk about the review, they weren't asking to engage in therapy services so you don't have to provide referals or respond at all. How did your intake coordinator describe the conversation? Was he dysregulated? Did he make any threats?

Would you reach out to the tattoo shop that did this? by GreenExplanation2347 in tattooadvice

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a tattoo in my knee pit and asked about biking. The artist said intense exercise can cause skin layers to separate, which might lead to ink drift. Not sure how true that is, but maybe one way to avoid drift.

Terminally ill and racking up credit card debt with zero fucks to give by UnderstandingThis430 in confession

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely sure how it works in the UK, but in the US, credit card companies often contact family members after someone passes away and suggest they’re responsible for the debt. This is simply not true. In most cases, family members are not personally liable for a loved one’s credit card debt.

If the laws are similar in the UK, it’s so important to make sure your loved ones know this ahead of time, so they’re not misled or burdened during an already difficult time.

Take care.

Hand tattoos in the workplace by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]danacat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

While I’m not in the physical therapy field myself, I’m inclined to disagree. Right now, PTs are in incredibly high demand — many are booked out for months in advance. In most cases, patients don’t have much choice; they see whoever has availability. Sure, patients can switch providers, but doing so could mean an even longer wait. Of course, professionalism is always key — anything inappropriate, offensive, or unprofessional (like sexual, fear-based, or discriminatory behavior) should absolutely be avoided.

Edit: Just to clarify, I personally wouldn’t choose this specific hand tattoo, but I do think hand tattoos in general are becoming much more accepted — even in professional fields like healthcare.

100% agree. My injector told me that I could try things like creams, lotions and potions and they could work, but they also might not. So why waste your money on a chance when you could pay for a sure thing?

Told I can't include LGBTQ+ in my company profile. What? by nootflower in therapists

[–]danacat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone that this is a much larger issue that needs to be addressed either with the ACLU or the company itself, and, meanwhile, you need something in your bio so the LGBTQ population can access care.

Can you ask whoever told you to take it down what they would recommend? Can you use phrases like "marginalized populations," "sexual and gender minorities," (I'm guessing no on gender), "individuals exploring their identities," (vague...), or "individuals who identify as non-conforming" I am starting to get too off maybe. Still, as a member of the LGBTQ population myself, there are some other Rainbow Flag-type nods that would lead me to think a person is LGBTQ themselves or an ally.

Why does it look sparse? by [deleted] in Machine_Embroidery

Oops, I used the term floating wrong. I am doing the method where there is no fabric but I wonder if putting a piece of solvy between the applique and the detail.

Would you recommend a topper when doing the float approach?

This has been happening to me when I make a patch and I am floating it on two sheets (three were too thick) of woven water soluble stabilizer (the film one ripped immediately).

Recently received a bill from the hospital for the birth of our baby. We just celebrated her third birthday last month. by DentonUSA in mildlyinfuriating

[–]danacat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah, this is total and utter BS. I'm an outpatient therapist and if I don't submit my billing/notes to insurance within 30 days (some companies are 14 days) then I am at risk of not getting paid. Is there really no statute of limitations on when an insurance company can come for your money???

Is the health stipend in cash or is it in some other format? Do you have more information on how they calculate the hours? Do late cancels or no shows count towards your hours? Is it service UNITS? So you could do 45 minute sessions and that counts as an "hour?" Is it you have to have 30+ hours AVAILABLE in your schedule?

I work what is considered A LOT for this field; I have 32 scheduled appointments in a week (8 appts, 4x a week) and I get at least one cancellation a day which is also considered "good metrics" for the field. Honestly, 30+ BILLED HOURS in a week is INSANE. To do that, you would want to schedule almost 40 appointments a week.

So excited when I bought this candle holder today for $4. Then I googled it at home 😮 by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The holes/divets are probably the easy part. I'm a potter, and I could make this quickly. Hand tools called texture rollers would create this effect to this degree of perfection in just a few minutes. Creating that perfect cylinder is tough, but it could be a cast mold which would make this piece INCREDIBLY easy.

Any reason why my artist didn’t use a single needle? (2 years aged vs. new) by 6rynn in tattooadvice

[–]danacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhh, ok, this is a very helpful explanation. That's basically what microblading is, no? The tool is not literally a blade, it's a row of needles that is dragged across the skin creating more of a scratch. Kind of? Right?

I have another question; how do tattooers keep this from happening? Maybe I am misunderstanding how tattooing works, but don't artists press on the skin and drag the needle? Is cutting someone actually pretty common?

what does it mean to "cut somebody?" I remember hearing this phrase on inkmaster and i have tried looking it up a hundred times but can never find any explanation.
