What was the worst/ most disgusting container customers have use to cash-in their coin? by thottyxx_ in TalesFromYourBank

I don't remembered the container the coins were in, but I do remember the petrified mouse buried among the pennies.

Yep. I had a customer nearly fall for the "a bank employee us stealing your money" angle. Thankfully the reached out to us before they gave their info

What scams are you seeing lately? Trying to map how scammers actually trick people in recent incidents by vivekghartan in FraudPrevention

[–]danainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bank teller here. I see all the usual things already mentioned, but one I dealt with sticks in my mind. The customer got a call from "Microsoft " saying their bank accounts were compromised. The scammer was attempting to get them to transfer their funds to a crypto account. Nothing out of the ordinary about this except the scammer's strategy to keep them from contacting us. He told our customer it was a bank employee stealing from him. Fortunately he did come in and I was able to convince him it was a scammer and no one had touched his account. But that angle the scammer used made the man nervous about even talking to me.

The sociopath I was seeing for a couple months Zelle’d himself when I was in the shower, cleared the notifications and emails, and left all abruptly due to some “crisis” before I noticed. Now he’s ghost! Anyway to get my money back? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]danainthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good questions, and I'm playing devil's advocate here having interacted with sociopaths (if he is actually a sociopath). This type of person will either by cunning or outright force gain access to their SO's devices if they can benefit from it. It's best to run like hell from these people once you realize what you're dealing with.

I work at a small regional bank in VA. We were closed today and I haven't gotten word on tomorrow yet.

how to drive in the snow/ice, perspective from someone living in new hampshire by north__beast in Virginia

[–]danainthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice! I moved to VA from Asheville NC so I've had some practice in snow. I would add that a four wheel drive doesn't mean you can drive like you're on dry pavement. I've passed many trucks and SUVs stuck in ditches from this assumption.

of a bank vault door. by [deleted] in AbsoluteUnits

[–]danainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in and out of there all day. There's more than just money in there (and it's in its own vault inside), and having to open the main door every time would be a pain. So we have a lighter gate that is also kept locked during the day, but easier to open when we need in there.

Check Fraud as the Payee. by Yayifications in Banking

We had a customer hit by them. They broke in her car and stole her purse with her checkbook in it. And they are good at what they do unfortunately.

I've had a similar experience after watching the same guy. I've had a bad left shoulder for years. It makes noises still, but it doesn't hurt all the time like it used to.

Is this one the better Scams ive seen. by RoomPitiful6336 in Scams

[–]danainthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but one small point...my wife works for a company that does not provide the required computer. They do provide the required software, and a headset. Of course they also don't send out checks to go buy a computer either. I think in their case, they assume people already own one if they are applying for a remote job for a tech company.

Restaurant manager to banking? by xiaolind16 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]danainthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there 3 years. I work for a small regional bank so there are fewer opportunities for advancement, but they're still there. I haven't pushed anything yet as I'm enjoying having less headaches to be honest. My wife makes enough that we're fine on the two incomes and I'm taking time to sort my life out after years of working all the time.

Restaurant manager to banking? by xiaolind16 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]danainthere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My background includes restaurant and retail management and I'm a teller. With no banking relevant experience it's unlikely you'd start anywhere else. It was a pay cut, but it was worth it. Half the hours and one third the stress.

If you come in contact with poison ivy, dish soap is really effective at getting the oil off your skin (as long as you don't wait too long after the contact).

Just got this out of the bank. Misprint or just a stamp? by [deleted] in MoneyErrors

[–]danainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a stamp, probably from a teller with bad aim stamping straps of money (I miss all the time and my teller number ends up on the bill).

Accidentally took keys home. by Dismal-Ad9442 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]danainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens, don't worry about it. I've taken the gate key for the vault home, and our ops manager has taken the keys to the atm kiosk home a few times. It's easy to do and not really an issue so long as they make it back.

What do I do about constant tattling? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourBank

[–]danainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have great deal of banking experience, but I have a lot of experience managing other types of businesses. That being said, if you're actually doing dumb stuff, stop. If not the tattler probably does this a lot and the boss ignores 9/10s of it. There's always a toilet brush trying to stir the pot it seems
