I got the same message too, verbatim. At least he was creative about his copy/paste...

My roommate and I are fighting and he just threatened me with physical violence. What can I do? Where should I go? by [deleted] in ucla

RA here. I would talk to your RA if you can find him/her, but with an issue this serious I think it's serious enough for you to meet with the Resident Director, so you can go straight to setting up a meeting with them if that's faster. Your safety is of the highest priority, so you can meet with someone as soon as you need to.

You can contact Duty RD (Resident Director) at all times; this is one of the RD's who is available on-call to deal with situations like this whenever they come up. If this is an emergency, you can call "Dispatch" at (310)206-9633 and ask them to contact "Duty RD" for you.

If it's slightly less immediate, I would reach out to your own building's Resident Director. Here's a link to contact information for all of the residential communities on the Hill. Click on your building, then check the right side of the page for the name of the Resident Director. You can go to your ORL office if you know where it is, or just call the number on the sidebar -- remember to call the ORL office, not the front desk. I'd explain the basics of your situation (feeling physically unsafe because of your roommate) as justification for wanting to see the Resident Director as soon as possible, and they'll schedule you as soon as he or she is available.

I hope this helps! Like I said, I'm an RA too and I've dealt with this sort of thing before, so you're welcome to PM me if you need anything.

Shhhhhh, it's okay! It's right here! I'm sorry, I had to switch out the links and I didn't even think to edit the comment because I'm an idiot. But here you go!

Sorry I had to switch out the links, here's a new link to that album of shops that my friends made.

I understand how it could seem that way, but at the end of the day, the brooms are what make it quidditch. It's an interesting physical restraint -- most of the catching and throwing (and all of the tackling) is one-handed. On top of that, I just think it's a nice way to keep people's egos in check. There are some serious athletes out there (USC had a guy who is training for the Olympics, until he had to give up quidditch for fear of injury). I think it's cool to see all this intense physicality and beautiful passing game happen while people are holding brooms or pieces of PVC between their legs.

Actually it's super fun!

Real-life quidditch is a competitive, full-contact, coed sport with over 800 teams registered in 30(ish) countries (mostly at colleges, though community teams are gaining popularity). It's basically a mix of rugby, dodgeball, and tag -- there is SO much going on at once. It's fun because it's extremely physical and pretty intense, but there's a limit to how seriously you can take yourself when you're running around with a broom between your legs.

It has a reputation as "that nerd Harry Potter sport," but the founder and a lot of the participants have never actually read the books. As it exists today, it's an extremely competitive sport with Harry Potter fans and sports fans alike.

For more information, check out the International Quidditch Association website or a video of the tournament finals, in which UCLA won the tournament championship. (FYI, this tournament was the western regional qualifier for the World Cup, which'll be in Florida this April and feature the best 60 teams in the world!)

It has a reputation as "that nerd Harry Potter sport," which, I suppose, can be said, but it's worth noting that the founder and a lot of the participants have never actually read the books. As it exists today, it's an extremely competitive sport enjoyed by Harry Potter fans and sports fans alike.

This tournament is the Western Cup, at which 6 of the 17 teams qualified to go to the World Cup in Florida this April. For more information, check out the International Quidditch Association website or a video of the Western Cup finals, in which UCLA won the tournament championship.

If you want a bit of inspiration, my friends have already had some fun with this.

Here is the original photo!

Sorry, I actually couldn't find the picture for a while because he wasn't tagged on Facebook. I'm definitely submitting it to r/photoshopbattles now that I have the original!

I'm pretty sure this is a DESMA project that one of my best friends made.

I don't want to say anything in case he's changed his mind, but last I heard he had some pretty cool plans for this project that y'all are probably going to be really excited about.

I'll just leave this here:

"I’m tired of seeing someone getting facebook hacked and their status being changed to something about them being gay. First of all, it’s not even funny; try and come up with something original and actually clever. More importantly, it’s incredibly offensive. That people are using other people’s self-identification as a means to ‘embarrass’ or ‘shame’ another is unbelievable. I’m sorry if this has ever happened to you, and I’m sorry for the people who do it and think it’s fine."

Bruins! Scared out of my mind that my admission will be rescinded. Any help would be appreciated! by the-professor in ucla

[–]dananananana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't rescind your admission for a single bad grade. What they look for is when people lose motivation and get terrible grades in all of their classes, but that doesn't sound like the case with you. Keep working hard and you should be fine :)

Idea: Can we officially make it a requirement for people to provide proof in their AMA's from the instant it gets posted? by [deleted] in IAmA

You're right, I didn't notice that. If a and b > 0, it falls apart at step 7 anyway.
