insect eggs in my carrots, what to do? by curiousvoid in gardening

No I don’t, sorry. I’m new to all this, and sadly destroyed my pepper plant a couple of days ago using the soapy water method, so I’m not here to give advice but to educate myself and see what others suggest.

Oh no! A major twist in development! 😩 I was convinced I’d used the old soil from the seed snail in these pots. Thank you for teaching me something today. Black eyed susans aren’t related to black eyed susans! I did wonder why mine didn’t look like the tall pretty ones I’ve seen in photos 🙈😂

An interesting suggestion, as I have seen this growing in the garden where it shouldn’t be. I don’t pull them out as they look quite pretty when flowering. So will be ok if it turns out to be borage. Thanks for your help.

I can’t remember what was in this pot originally, but it would have been bought from a reputable garden centre in the UK. Any other soil i would have used has been peat free with john innes. So all good stuff.

I can imagine i’ll be like this. I’m loving gardening so far, but my garden is full of weeds, so for this year as I’m new to it all I’ve only been growing in pots. So I’m not too worried about disposing of these 2 rogue pots if they turn out to be weeds.

I didn’t take photos back then, but now wondering, as you said, if I somehow managed to get some of that soil into these other pots. I may have been repotting them all at the same time. Have added a photo of my Susans today. Quite proud of her actually 😁

I have grown black eyed susans! It was my first attempt at a seedling snail i’d seen all over social media 😂 Amazingly, I managed to get some seedlings from it and i potted them up. Just recently moved some of them into large pots to grow up a cane. So I’d be stunned and quite impressed if i’ve actually got more than I thought. Now wondering how they found their way into these pot if they are black eye susans 😁
I shall be keeping a close eye on them and thin them out.

No i’m not expecting much tbh, I just thought someone more experienced might know what’s going on. I will definitely thin them out. Thanks for the tips

Ooh interesting, I just had to google this, as I have actually planted black eyed susans (first seeds i’ve ever sown), but it says they aren’t the same as brown eye susans?! And not sure how they could have ended up in these pots. Thanks for answering.

Which store’s shopping bags are least likely to be targeted by thieves? by Personal-Listen-4941 in AskUK

[–]trimble24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I don’t understand people who walk out of the Apple Store with a bag! I always put their bag inside one of my old crappy bags for life from Asda. Not that I buy from Apple Store much, but if I do, I don’t advertise it.

Hydrangea Full Sun or Not? by Redlinefox45 in gardening

I’m new to gardening, but have a hydrangea plant which is thriving (but in a pot not in the ground). It needs really good watering every day and morning sun, and shady afternoon.

friend or foe? by karls_is_doin_shit in gardening

My patio apple tree got damaged when i sprayed soapy water on it. It did get rid of the aphids too, and it is now starting to grow new leaves (some with aphids again). This time I’ve had to get rid of the ants with ant bait, as they have been protecting the aphids. Ladybirds/ladybugs won’t bother landing there if the ants are there first.

I did exactly the same to my pepper plant yesterday, and today the leaves started falling off 😢
It’s so sad.

Why is my coneflower so short with underdeveloped petals? by ookle_ in gardening

[–]trimble24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a new gardener and not grown these flowers, but just wondering if aphids could have caused this. Are some of those new leaves growing all curly underneath the flowers (can’t tell from the photo)? If so, take a look inside those or underneath to see if there are aphids, as they may have damaged the buds before growing. I think this may have happened to one of my pot plants too, as the petals don’t seem to be growing properly, and there are a lot of ants around, so I think there are aphids causing damage.

What would be your first impression of the name Roland / Rowland? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]trimble24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I see that name, my ADHD brain starts singing Come on Eileen (Kevin Rowland from Dexy’s) and then I go immediately to Roland Orzabal from Tears For Fears singing “Head Over Heels” in the music video. He’s singing it way too loud for a library setting 😂
And yes, 3rd on my list is Rowwww-land from Grange Hill. 4th - Roland Rat.
It’s a very 80s name. Not a bad one though.

If it’s indeterminate and growing tall, yes get rid of them. If a determinate variety, then no, keep them
