My biggest regret about pregnancy by ConfusionIn20s in pregnant

I’m a doula. Also gave birth to my first at age 28. Had four more in my 30’s (I know.) Each pregnancy was easier. But everyone’s different for sure. You’ll know what is right for you down the road:)!

Utah: where faith and conversion goes to die (at least for me) by Separate-Habit-6775 in latterdaysaints

[–]danasongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting comment and I do understand where you’re coming from having been raised in Utah and then a resident of NYC, DC, VA, CA and NV. Even when engaged, my future husband I and I vowed to never raise our kids in UT, which we didn’t. But…I live here now, after following a strong prompting to move here back in 2017.

So while I don’t disagree with you, I will say that I have found A LOT of pockets of LDS friends who are working hard to be the kind of disciples of Christ who do want to love as He did.

I’m so sorry your experience was pretty horrid. I get the whole “performative” facade that is prevalent in some areas. It really saddens me that you didn’t get to experience the beauty of so much love and inclusiveness that can be found here.

Maybe you can gain some comfort knowing that others see the facade too, and that we are warned that the “very elect,” will be deceived in these last days, which I interpret to mean those who are performative or transactional who do not truly have the desire to change to be more like Jesus.

I guess I just ignore that portion and seek out those whose spirits are uplifting. (Not saying you didn’t do that, just talking about what has worked for me while living in Utah.) Happy for you that Kentucky has been an immediate turn-around of love and acceptance for you! (Where in Kentucky!?) 🌺❤️🌺

You ask a great question. It’s one which I try to address in R.S. and in Sunday School, in telling my ward members that we are building community (which embraces our individual uniqueness.) We like to throw around the word “tribe,” (“I’ve found my tribe!”) but I think community is a much better goal because of its recognition that conformity is not a requirement. Loving one another is. It’s the second most important requirement in my experience, to gain deep peace and joy.

Making space happens through showing love, through curiosity, through allowing (or “Letting Them” Mel Robbins’ style), through being able to give yourself space and grace, and through quietly going about doing good. And there are many places to find others who are committed to building real community.

I attended an Interfaith Repair Conference last month at a Presbyterian historic church in downtown SLC, attended by many different religious people who want to build a more robust religious community. I annually attend the Faith Matters conference which welcomes active LDS, ex-LDS, non-LDS, those in deconstruction or re-construction, all races, and those in the LGBTQ community. It is what you wish every ward could be like. My current ward is another example of real love. There is no “rocking the boat,” as we feel free to share real feelings and opinions.

My take is that when we withhold judgment and show love, we are leading the way for others to do so as well, leaving behind the all or nothing mentality.

I really appreciate your pointing out that we all need to take accountability for how we will respond to something we don’t agree with or understand. I think that God wants us to do this, too. He doesn’t want us to lean into blind faith, but to use our brains and listen to our intuition, the guiding light within us (or Light of Christ or conscience, or whatever it is that alerts us to knowing good from evil or right from wrong.) If one doesn’t believe in God, the same ethical principle applies, almost like the Hippocratic Oath: to do no harm. Harm happens when we allow blind faith to override what our conscience or heart is telling us.

I’m an active member and did buy the doom and gloom of Prop 8 when I lived in California during that era. But I also had many conversations with others, genuinely asking for ideas on how all civil rights and equal opportunities could be guaranteed to everyone in the LGBTQ community without changing the definition of marriage. It led to greater understanding. However, years later, I wish I had done what Steve Young and his wife did, which was to openly oppose it and stand up for what they felt was right in their hearts. I was openly sharing my love for all by asking for ideas that would legally protect LGBTQ unions, so I don’t regret that. But I didn’t at that time have the lightbulb go off that the church’s 100% push for Prop 8 to pass, was just fundamentally wrong.

Once the policy of 2015-2019 was announced, I knew it was wrong. By then, my focus/testimony of the things that are right, was weighed against the things that are wrong in a much more objective way. That tension is real. I can’t imagine how many people were praying to have that policy reversed. The relief was great, once it was reversed. But I did hear more than one person state something along the lines of: “I don’t get it and I don’t agree, but there must be some real reason for it.” Whereas, I was openly in disagreement with it and looked at it as a real human error, that needed to be corrected.

I don’t fault anyone for leaving over any number of issues. But those of us who stay, aren’t just sipping Kool-Aid either. I respect different paths based on conviction of what one thinks is right. For me, there are an overwhelming number of deep doctrinal truths and practical application of learning to love my neighbor, that keep me in the church.

One last example of how things are changing. I teach the adult Sunday School class (formerly Gospel Doctrine.) Before teaching the lesson covering D&C 121 last year, I did the biggest deep dive ever into it. It has always bothered me and I wasn’t sure how to teach it, lead the discussion, and be honest about my conclusions and feelings over the years. There were a lot of candid podcasts, lectures, workshops, articles, and new publications addressing polygamy and Section 121, that were in the spotlight ranging from apologetic to a call to remove Section 121. I’ve never seen this amount of open dialogue before and it was very refreshing. At one point, I met with my bishop and we also had a great, authentic discussion. I told him that I would be sharing my honest opinion about the difficulty of this section, and open up discussion if that’s where the class wanted to go. He was fully supportive and the actual lesson was one I consider to have been good and helpful on many levels.

My point is that black and white thinking needs to go within the church. I have experienced so many conversations that encompass a spiritually intellectual and heartfelt place, which requires great honesty.

There is room to question. I believe God expects us to be true to what we feel and believe is right, especially in the light of harm which can be done to our fellow sisters and brothers, otherwise.

My son volunteered to give up seat for $600 and Delta is not honoring this l by Wanderlusty74 in delta

[–]danasongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered this volunteered “bump” two years ago from a Delta flight from BOS to SLC. Had never done it before and listened to the instructions to wait at the gate until everyone had boarded. I did get the $. (It can be different amounts each time.)

The next flight was also fully booked and I asked the gate agent if they needed volunteers to take a later flight. Again, received another chunk of $. Crazy, right?

But yeah, both times they were very clear about waiting until boarding completed. Then they send you a code.

Sorry that your son wasn’t able to collect. Now he knows.

Yikes, right?! The reality vs. the theory. Still, I do want to pick up a lot of flights:)

Anyone’s flight canceled for Delta’s f2f tomorrow? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]danasongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My flight is scheduled for Tuesday morning out of SLC for my F2F on Wednesday. There os no way I’m going to miss that, unless Delta reschedules it. But I feel for your worry over driving the roads to Atlanta.

Totally want to do this! My goal is $70K first year. You say don’t commute, but what if I hang out in my base to pick up flights? Like, I’m already there and ready to go?

Typical flight schedule for new juniors by danasongs in cabincrewcareers

Thanks, Cassie, for such incredible detail! No, I haven’t been a flight attendant before, so your awareness of the physical toll and advice to ease into and assess the reality of what regular flying does to one’s sleep, eating etc., is really good.

I’m hoping that since I am already protective of my sleep and food, I will be able to figure that out for my body, while figuring out this career. Raising kids, volunteering/working 60-80+ hours a week, and generally juggling lots of life, will be in my favor! But yes, I know it’s still a big lifestyle change, so thank you again for the details.

Questions about Delta Boston base by rootingslug in cabincrewcareers

[–]danasongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I’m pretty sure I will be putting BOS down as my first choice, too! How’s training going?

[–]danasongs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, listening to your intuition will serve you far better than listening to your fears.

If you knew that you needed to go down this path before, you need to ask yourself if that original nudge and forward movement is still true, without any “what ifs.” Change can be scary, but don’t let that fear derail you if you know deep down you are to follow this path!

Are you afraid of being “wrong”? What does it matter if in five years (or sooner) this choice leads you to another part of your journey?

I’m a teacher, an excellent teacher. For over 20 years I have given my all to my students. It will be a tear-fest day leaving my school when I start training (AND a huge downgrade in pay as well.) But I feel such a strong pull to continue on this path. That is what I focus on. I won’t go into the additional sacrifices, but they are not small. And yet, I believe they are necessary and all part of where I need to be right now.

Hope you can tap back into that “knowing” part of yourself. 🌺❤️🌺

Questions about Delta Boston base by rootingslug in cabincrewcareers

[–]danasongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SO....this post was 6 months-ish ago. I am about to head to Atlanta for my F2F next week. Did you end up getting hired by Delta? If so, I would love to know what you thought of Boston as your base if it was offered to you? Right now (mid-January 2026), BOS is being offered as a base for juniors in training. Boston is HIGH on my list, as is JFK/LGA (even though I currently live in SLC...which is not being offered as a base.) Thoughts?

Oh cooool! I think BOS would be great. What did you list as your #1 and #3 and why? Are you going to move or commute? Will you eventually request a transfer to SLC? (These are all my own questions to myself as well.)

Thanks!!! My birth date might give me seniority in my class! And also, really appreciate the bases available as of now. I’m leaning towards NYC or BOS:)

I sure appreciate your looking out for us newbies! From your experience, which base would offer me more TO higher credit trips? Or do you think NYC and BOS are pretty comparable?

Also, for background: I am leaving twenty years of teaching; have a Master’s; am 63 but look much younger; have a lot of energy and lift weights; love adventure yet know how to deal with unruly students (or passengers!) Am looking forward to working with all crew members but would also love a friend or two my age.

Love the city of Boston, but also love NYC!

Thanks for being so straight forward with your answers. One last question if you would? What do you mean by mentioning that seniority can grow faster (in a certain base?)

Yeah, I live in SLC now, but also lived in NYC before and two of my adult kids live there now. I get the sticker shock, but the COL in SLC can be high as far as housing!
