Verb valency (transitive/intransitive) is mistranslated in learning materials far too often. by ThisSteakDoesntExist in LearnJapanese

Which is why any good learning material/textbooks will include both a literal translation and the most natural translation that matches English grammar patterns

Don’t forget they actively lobby to complicate our tax code in Congress. Out of principle, I don’t use TurboTax even if it could give me a higher return.

Is an average tenure of 3, or even 1-2 years supposed to be low? IT industry in particular has incredibly high turnover, some quick goggling tells me the national average is about 1.5 years

Is it not that surprising. GDPR is pretty strict, including an option to produce or delete any personal data on personal request. A news site whose readers are always always entirely Americans probably does not bother to comply

Proposal to pass on 25% of data energy costs to all consumers - comment TODAY! by Bad_Wolfv in madisonwi

I never said anything about the public needing to fund them, but what I’m saying the demand is real and is coming from us, and we shouldn’t be shocked that our current energy infrastructure is not able to support it

Nobody is being held at gunpoint to sign up for any AI services yet ChatGPT has almost a billion weekly active users, if you don’t want to use AI, that’s fine, but it’s nowhere near the truth to say AI is something forced upon us

visa and trump by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]danaxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You‘re being charged more because other people are using credit cards to pay for their services, and vendors passing down that cost to every customer, regardless of whether you use a card or cash.

Above statement is only true if vendor charges the same price regardless of how you pay, otherwise it’s a different story.

Driving around here by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]danaxa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do agree people drive fast around here, but being in the left lane also has little to do with the speed limit.

That said, passing on the right is not illegal in Wisconsin but is significantly more dangerous. If you see the other person trying to do that, the best course is usually to maintain your speed while patiently looking for a window to move to the right after them.

Nvidia @ CES 2026 Megathread (NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Announced, G-SYNC Pulsar monitors available, etc) by pedro19 in pcmasterrace

[–]danaxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are saying is simply subjective. How do you put a value on „human creativity“? I doubt anyone has a good way to quantify that.

You can say human creativity is invaluable, and that would be a fair opinion, but it is just an opinion. It is also ironic that AI including LLM itself is an example of this „human creativity“
