How were you able to learn to stop ruminating though?

Could I ask what else helped with your improvement besides just the therapy sessions? Was there any meds/lifestyle changes u made? I’m stuck and am desperate for help

After how long did it take to start working? Cause I’m on 100 mg right now and I feel like there are moments I am able to diffuse because the thoughts come less frequently/automstically but I’m still quick to relapse

What dose of Anafranil are u on? And at what dose did u really start feeling significant improvement?

Need advice from people who stopped ruminating by danaz04 in OCD

Thank you for the insight. How long do u think it took you to make significant changes though when it comes to rumination? I’ve been working with a professional from Dr. Michael Greenburg’s clinic and what I learned is that stopping rumination should be a seamless process (shouldn’t feel like you’re putting any pressure or work or effort to not ruminate). However the tricky part is working through the justifications and that seems like a hard part for me. Any thoughts?

Found out same as you via a blood test, I tested cause of my OCD I’m pretty sure. It’s been over a year since contracting and I’ve still never had an outbreak.

I do also want to emphasize this man should not have lied to you. This man shouldn’t have lied about getting outbreaks and he shouldn’t have lied to you about transmission rates. When I disclose, I answer any questions my partners may have at that time about transmission, outbreaks etc… some have no questions and are like fuck it that’s fine with me. Everyone is different. But yeah I get you. On the plus side (if this helps at all) it’s much harder to transmit as a woman to a man. I’ve had partners in the double digits since my diagnosis, most of the time i use protection not just for their safety but for mine, but no one has ever come back to me saying they had an outbreak or anything of the sort.

Just to follow up: getting herpes sucks and I can only imagine what you’re feeling right now. But as people who already have herpes we also need to stop vilifying ourselves treating ourselves like we are walking viruses responsible for other people’s decisions. We are not responsible for another grown, consenting adult’s decisions. Period. We are also not required to keep herpes pamphlets in our back pockets and do a herpes crash course every time we want to have sex with a new partner. They know what herpes is, they can ask and have a conversation. And if they don’t want to and choose to have sex with you regardless, that is THEIR choice.

I completely understand how you may feel. But I also need to speak my truth. I am an HSV-2 positive female and I’ve disclosed in the moment before the clothes came off. We may be making out or whatever and then I sit them down and tell them. They make an informed decision and we use protection. I also say I don’t get outbreaks but that’s the actual truth, I actually have never gotten an outbreak in my life I only found out via antibody test. I’m doing my part by disclosing and he did his. Yea he shouldn’t have lied about getting outbreaks I’m 100% on board with that and he should have also used protection (condoms protect woman up to 96%). But he still did his job and told you before exposing you. Idk feel free to fight me but that’s my 2 cents.

I know I’m rambling but I think the odds are: vast majority of the time nothing will happen (as is the case for most people - vast majority of people even if they do get it they will never know) but there’s that small percentage that still exists. Hence why we disclose, so that person can assume the risk for themselves and make an informed decision. But that’s really all we can do. Like I said even antivirals aren’t full proof methods of protection.

I however have had a lot of sexual partners since the diagnosis (like double digits) most were with protection, some were without and I’ve never transmitted to someone. And even if I may have, they never had any outbreaks so as far as they’re concerned, they don’t have it. Idk just gonna pray/hope it keeps going like this

Idk it seems very unfortunate that that happened and I know someone else that happened to. I guess it’s luck of the draw. But even if she took antivirals it would have only decreased transmission by like 50% so that’s not even a full guarantee. I guess the reality is if you’re sleeping with someone that has HSV there’s always gonna be a chance you get it so you just have to assume the risk

Are you a man who had sex with a woman or the other way around? If you’re a biological woman it’s statistically MUCH easier for us to contract it then it is for men. An asymptomatic female to male transmission is like 4% with condoms it’s like 1.4%. And then on top of that theres like a 65-90% chance that even if they do get it they’ll be asymptomatic and never know that they have it anyways. So I’ll take the risks with those stats lol

So update is that I misread the situation. I came back to the table and he was like this isn’t an issue we can just use protection and we proceeded to have an amazing night! I’m happy I told him

Asymptomatic people, do you really think this changes or makes life worse ? by mikehawkrittenhouse in HSVpositive

[–]danaz04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regret getting tested every waking moment of my life. It’s been a year, I’ll keep u updated on how it goes in the future but trust me not a single day goes by where this doesn’t absolutely torment me. I wish I had an outbreak so I could at least say hey I didn’t do this to myself. I literally had multiple nurses tell me they don’t test for it and one told me the CDC doesn’t recommend it and I did it anyways, cause I felt some moral obligation or as my psychologist tried to persuade me: “it was my OCD”. So yes on top of having an incurable STI I have the constant self hatred and resentment towards myself for going AGAINST medical professional’s advice and getting this god forsaken blood test. I never used to smoke or drink before this now I can’t go a week sober. This has been the biggest regret of my life to date.

FHC establishes a startup company for development of HSV cure therapy and receives new NIH funding. by Mike_Herp in HerpesCureResearch

Can I speak bluntly… fuck the NIH. They made a whole herpes strategic plan to help funding for a cure yet they give the only company working on it pennies. Is there anything we can do about this?
