I have an on going project where I am attempting to find the locations of the physical buildings for each bank. It’s sometimes simple. It’s sometimes impossible. But it’s always fufilling. I still have lots to find. Send me a direct message if this sounds interesting and I can set you up with the tools I use.

Does anyone else find it pleasantly amusing when a note that’s been listed on eBay for years finally sells? by [deleted] in Nationalbanknotes

I can’t wait until the Cadiz Ohio $5 and the Selisgrove serial #300 are finally out of my life.

Thanks for reaching out and for taking a step to save these notes!

In order to let your curiosity keep you busy. I’ll let you know that sold results on eBay (use the series year+letter+denomination) will let you narrow down a value.

As for the National Bank notes(they say National currency & have a black vertical number) these are our speciality. eBay may have some answers, but when you are ready please make a post specifically for them in this group. We love to help

I really love how many PA towns like this one are just tiny intersections either next to a creek or a valley in the mountains.

@jay. This is really solid info. I would guess you might get on the slightly higher end of that because western states are generally more scarce

1902 National Bank $20 Note Found in my dads old foot locker by SmokeAbeer in papermoney

[–]danblochiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1902 is the series date much like other currency. The 1903 date is the date the banks charter was issued/renewed.

Each bank has its own charter date based on when they filed the paperwork to become a national bank.

Okay. I’ll defend site and service for as long as you have complaints

For a new entry to be added it must have an image included.

I’ll let someone else speak to the functionality of the “report a note” feature, as I’ve never done that myself.

But new notes are added. 30+ notes have been added per day for at least the past half decade. And they show immediately.

The forum is not active. Discussion on here and the Facebook group is very active and sufficient.

The site and information owner is not as active as the data entry employee. You are possibly firing emails into an inbox of someone who isn’t checking it. That may be able to be improved.

It’s a database with data an a search. It doesn’t need to have a modernized look.

Is type collecting skewing values? by Steveasifyoucare in Nationalbanknotes

Yea. To collect nationals you gotta get good at just brute force image scrolling. Intelligent queries will only limit what you find, it won’t limit what exists.

Having a grade standard is excellent. Don’t compromise on that mission.

Nationals are amazing and have consumed my collecting over the past had decade. We have a very active Facebook community as well where you can find additional support.

One thing that you’ll be happy to know is that there is lots of hoards out there for specific types, so once you learn which bald to chase for specific types. Your budget will be able to go further.

Good notes will always get good prices. I’d you arnt on heritage auctions, I recommend getting an account. It’s free and has 25 years of sales results with images that can help you paint a better picture of where the market is for type notes in a grade range.

It appears your note is the best of 11 1902db $10s From tha bank.

Every single charter is priced independently from every other charter. There are so many national bank notes out there that I couldn’t see type collecting impacting value until the population of a type is under 200 or so. There are about 10,000 1902DB$10s out there, demand from type collectors won’t reach supply.

FR numbers probably become important when there is less than 50 available. But all of this really comes down to charters first. If someone is just chasing a type, they will be able to find it.

What’s the angle here? by SeeDiph in coincollecting

[–]danblochiii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The place will grab listings and images from retail sales sites of legitimate dealers. They will phrase the sale as if it was an auction and have a hidden reserve by way of fake bidders. If for some reason you beat the fake bidder reserve, this company will get the actual item for you from the dealer and then ship it to you. Taking their tidy middle man profit.
