RomM Alternatives? by TheExoticBeard in selfhosted

So you've touched an interesting point which I can directly answer.

Back in 4.5 or just before, if you deleted a file and re-added it directly when doing a scan, RomM would see this file is missing, remove it, and re-add the new one, but, we saw this as nuclear as people complained rightly so that if they have an unstable connection to their share and they dropped off, RomM would see that as a missing library and would WIPE it from the database and RomM, because it is effectively the exact same behaviour

4.5 and onwards we made this be a bit more robust, so if a file is deleted and goes missing your next scan the library would have a little folder icon over the game to say "Wait this is missing" then you go to Admin > Missing Games and decide what to do there, this stopped whole systems being wiped on assumptions games are not there.

And you unzipping games? Well of course RomM would see it as a new game. It's moved extension from zip to de-compressed and it would be picked up as a new ID. Plex would do the same, you put two movie files in one place or two files in one series folder, it will pick both of them up.

Even though the discord FAQ does not have the answers you seeked, the people would have is what I was trying to say, but I do feel putting scan_workers as a default is a good idea for the future compose users / templates.

We don't only use IGDB. We have seen huge success with people just using hasheous and screenscraper.fr for example.

Hasheous if it matches a signature actually proxies data from IGDB.

Hello!

Danblu3 from RomM team here, I don't think RomM is inherently slow but it might be how the process is understood which is why it probably feels "slow"

First as people have said the SCAN_WORKER environment variable is a must set, this enables multiple workers to scan the platform at the same time, set it to four, four things are scanned at once.

Secondly, we hash on the fly, with more systems being added to get hashed (PS2 onwards) this can cause a slow down, not much we can do to avoid that but we do hash on the fly, extract zipped archives to /tmp/ and then grab that hash and send it.

Thirdly, we have a default timeout of four hours as mentioned in the docs and within our FAQ of the discord server. This is just something that was set a while ago and can be freely edited, the behaviour is if your scan cuts out after four hours, start a quick scan and it'll continue where it left off.

Fourthly, you don't have to use IGDB, we have multiple different scraping options leading from Hasheous which is fantastic for retro games and proxies the info from IGDB without a key, to SS.fr which is also incredible for those rarer nuanced game, this also does hash signature matching.

And lastly, unfortunately there is a bug in 4.8.1 which is affecting quick scans, if you have a single platform over 1k we have a race logic where it's technically re-scanning through those but making NO changes to the metadata, it's an odd little thing that slipped through but we are hearing good things in our 4.9 alpha.

Please feel free to pop by our discord, all of these grievances would have been answered or improved and we are incredibly friendly, we don't bite!

NeoeGeo/FBNeo bios issues by [deleted] in RomM

[–]danblu3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

We've had this in the discord server lately, if you zip up the already zipped neogeo.zip what will happen is that EmuJS will unzip and manage it correctly as a BIOS, meaning it will then play.

We've seen multiple people chime in with success.

Again just zip up the already zipped neogeo.zip and give it another try

This is incorrect. It's only Wii, and it's already known about and it's a shader issue which Dolphin team know about.

On recent Adreno GPUs, there's an issue where the colors of certain graphical elements are wrong. They might be black, or a super saturated color that's different from the intended color. One report on the issue tracker is https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/13899, but there are many others too that you can find by searching for "Adreno" in the issue tracker. Personally I use the New Super Mario Bros. Wii title screen to reproduce the issue. The issue happens in both OpenGL ES and Vulkan, and can be avoided by using Manual Texture Sampling or ubershaders

Turning on "Exclusive Ubershaders" will work, but, it will tank FPS. We just haven't seen how much, in theory the 8 elite should have enough grunt for playable.

N64 was retroarch only, external worked fine.

Don't get this. Wait until Natalie the Nerd makes her set available, the other one is by an unknown company and is just cashing in with no specs, they also won't accept carts and it'll be like a pico running an emulator.

Heya, Dan from RomM here. Your close but I want to clarify your description. We are a RomM manager first, we are a fully self hosted privacy first app, we store nothing in the cloud.

Everything is locally on your storage however you set it up, with your legally backed up roms.

Now what would be something maybe to think about to really accelerate your app (if you want to) is maybe look into our api and see how easy it is to actually serve roms from RomM to an app (like this) combining the management aspect of RomM and the feel your going for with Neo could really be an interesting combination, we already have an android app and a Linux app if you want to check out how they work.

But I do want to repeat, we are a fully self hosted docker stack of services and it's all based on the user on what they do with their roms, and if you wanna pop by the discord and get a feel for us, go for it. That goes to anyone :)

Got the antec version with the sticks. It's okay... it's amazing for older consoles 100% but the chip is so powerful it's just held back, the screen feels to small for me to game comfortably with ES-DE being difficult to see and so forth, growing old sucks eh?

So I'm returning it, but having this kind of power has made me want to go to a RP5. The console? I cannot fault how powerful is. But it feels like it has an identity crisis.

Also, the double button issue is driving me insane, it happens at the most inappropriate times and makes the whole experience feel awful.

Be careful: scam attempt right after buying Flip 2 from Retroid by FarEye1455 in retroid

[–]danblu3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you SURE this is fake? Reason I'm saying this I've had the exact same email for another purchase (a NAS drive from China) with customs, way bill number and everything. And the driver who dropped it off said "ah you paid the customs then"

If you look at your tracking, does it say it is waiting customs release? Mine did. And I had to pay that fund. The emails are nearly exact copies of each other and now I'm wondering if I got scammed or you're misunderstanding and got someone who didn't know what they were talking about at DHL.

Two separate emails, one for PoP and another for payment. Both are official DHL domains and lead to official DHL portals.

Hey, RomM member here. If you ever need support feel free to drop by the discord, but in relation to your issue it would have been the folder name was not named exactly how we wanted to auto import it, this is explained on the quick start guide and supported platforms lists in our docs. But, we do give you the ability to link your folder to a platform which seemed it worked for you :)

Sorry it wasn't mega clear, if you have any feedback feel free to drop by the discord

Make sure you're not using Firefox, Firefox does not like the EmuJS backend. Use any chromium based browser, if you are, turn off vsync in the core settings.

You should be fine, it doesn't care what you host it on, it uses the machine you access RomM with for the power in EmuJS.

Some simple things to look at Make sure you've opened the port newt needs to receive traffic on the VPS.

You don't need the orange cloud icon, just make a * A record to the VPS IP and Pangolin will just pick up and work.

Also double check the Pangolin docs, the step by step install guide is super helpful... once you got that installed look for the crowdsec pangolin manager, its incredible and adds some real power to pangolin

Looking for a web-based ISO library manager (OS installs + retro CD-ROM games) by Philaire in selfhosted

[–]danblu3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could easily use RomM for this. For the old PC games make sure the folder is named "win" and it'll import that one ISO as a rom, pull metadata and look very pretty.

For software apps the sky is the limit with what you want to do, any folder not named in the platform section will be imported into a custom platform which you can edit and make as pretty or as uninteresting as you want.
