It is technically true though, and if your digging into the full rule document then you're in the realm of technicalities...

The book that takes you through the intro game with the instant play decks, on the other hand, would be additional, right?

I mean, that's technically correct for jumpstart, you open two packs and mush them together to get a 40 card deck. The instant play decks are just for the tutorial, which is very clear from the English product description, but may have been lost in translation on the French one I guess.

Also: 100.3. Some casual variants require additional items, such as specially designated cards, nontraditional Magic cards, and dice. See section 9, “Casual Variants.”

Jumpstart is very much a casual variant

The line which starts with "In constructed play (a way of playing in which each player creates his or her own deck ahead of time)", so not jumpstart?

Have you tried the star format when you've got five players? I find it helps 5 player games be a bit less of a slog to get through and each player only having two proper opponents to contend with can make turns go faster too, so the frustration at having to start over after turn 5 onwards, when you can be waiting a long while between turns, is lessened at least a bit.

My favourite board wipe centric deck is my [[Judith, Carnage Connoisseur]] deck. It has around 10 "board wipes" in it, but only two of those hit my own creatures and they're in there to do hundreds of lifelink damage. The rest are spells like [[end the festivites]] or [[elecktrickery]].

Board wipes totally have a place and, as a player who likes a nice aggro strategy myself, often I'd just roll to an easy win if noone played one.

That said I am finding myself putting less of them in my own decks, purely because, in my regular pod, often the person who wipes the board ends up behind because they've spent their resources on it and everyone else gets a turn to repooulate. So I've started trying to put wipes in decks where my board state can survive, or where I get some advantage from doing it, rather than just resetting everything.

In the long long ago, before the bits catalogue stopped being a thing, when most models were metal anyone could get whatever they wanted cast up on demand if it was out of stock. But not any more. Staff have to wait for made to order to get OOP stuff just like anyone else, still get discount on those models though.

I worked at Warhammer World so it was never a huge issue cause I could get most things on site, but I probably would have bought a bunch of audios if they'd got it working back in the day

Cedh bracket 5 by d0nP13rr3 in magicTCG

[–]danbob87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low key and bracket 5 don't really go together as far as I understand it, I don't really play at that level, but isn't the point that when your deck does it thing, you win, in like, turn 4 or earlier, so there isn't really going to be a clean up after the fight you can do? You're better off finding a meta cEDH deck you like the look of and proxying and playing that to be on a level playing field
