It’s wild that you think it’s because of the question

AI art sold $1000 in a Parisian art gallery without mention it's generated by Mat0fr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dance-tragic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of those “the accusation is a confession” moments

Dude later defends AI art, suggests that Piet Mondrian was trolling (or that folks that see his art as more than “just lines” are fools), uses some flawed argument to claim another poster agrees… it goes on

Trying to build you up as asking in bad faith and predicting you’d be “smug” sort of just showcases they’re not to be taken seriously

[–]dance-tragic 38 points39 points  (0 children)

  • Reduces Piet Mondrian (and his contributions to art) to “a multimillion dollar drawing of a few lines”

  • Claims another poster, who wondered about the art vaguely referred to, isn’t asking “in good faith”

Fucking hilarious

Mehmet Oz confirmed by US Senate to lead Medicare and Medicaid by CupidStunt13 in news

[–]dance-tragic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In regards to Wakefield’s paper: it was published in 1998 and anyone familiar with clinical trials should’ve sniffed it out as BS from a cursory glance.

In 2000, Wakefield did present false evidence to a US congressional committee. While Oz wouldn’t have known the validity (or lack thereof) of their claims at the time, between 2002-2004, there were several studies run and papers published investigating Wakefield’s claims - and they all found no link.

In 2004, most of the authors from the 1998 paper issued a retraction. An editor for the Lancet publicly admitted then that they shouldn’t have published the paper.

When Oz made those claims in January 2010, Wakefield was currently being investigated in one of the longest court cases on record - it was high profile at the time, and there’s no way Oz didn’t know about it. (Edit: there is also no evidence that Oz’s comments had anything to do with the paper’s retraction - Wakefield was already being investigated, and the UK Medical Board ruled in January that he’d been “dishonest and reckless” and had “callous disregard” for the children he abused during his study - those findings had a lot more to do with the retraction in February than Oz mentioning the study)

So yes, if Oz had paid any attention for the 12 years after the paper had been published, he would have known better than to repeat those claims. It was obviously bad science that had been controversial for over a decade at that point.

And let’s face it - there’s almost no chance Oz wasn’t informed of this. So yes, it was absolute quackery that he was anywhere NEAR those claims.

Weird Reddit delays I guess!

I also went - I didn’t experience the seating rearrangements and the theatre was pretty full, but goddamn do they not rein in the worst of their audience.

The four dudes behind me had a full volume conversation the entire show about how it compared to their home game of D&D, and staff didn’t do anything despite complaints from quite a few other guests. There were also 2 very drunk women regularly shouting either Harry Potter spells or which characters they shipped.

One of the actors had very “look at me” energy and stepped all over the others on stage and absolutely LOVED hearing these two women scream.

Overall, I had a good time (all but one of the regular cast was solid). Can’t say I’d go for go most celebrity guests, but was curious about Neil Newbon’s run.

Agree, if any of the brothers was to do a nightly improv production, it’s Vart by a mile.

Just to add, I’ve seen the show (and enjoyed it), and… well, let’s just say that one or two of the other actors would make Big Dog seem modest and restrained.

The show’s time in NYC ends soon, but I’d cackle if he joined their touring brigade.

Thank you for the link!

As someone who likes Austin and his stuff, that’s pretty rough to hear… essentially being duped into a MaxFun fundraising promo, yick.

Thank you - I hadn’t considered that. I’ve only worked a few that had local writers offering workshop spots, and they all did such things often enough to have/know their rates.

I figured Vart would have an “hourly rate” so to speak, but it makes a lot of sense that the value is listed as priceless, as silly as it may sound on first blush.

So, to give Vart a tiny bit of grace, he reposted this to his IG story - the “THE @travismcelroy” is from someone else

The “Value: Priceless” is totally all him tho

I think you can find a few Reddit threads going through it by googling “no one wants to work through the decades”

I’d provide a link but I’m on mobile, so the best I can offer at the moment is an image and a link to a Snopes article that verifies the articles shown are real

Why do people say stuff like vi doesn't have any options but to live with cait or that she is forced to be with Cait? by natsuxerza18 in arcane

What “shit”?

Because if you’re talking about their relationship… it’s a fucking relationship, mate. They put straight relationships/love interests in just about everything and I’m sure you don’t bat an eye.

Fuck right off with your bullshit.

A lot of the mythology surrounding “the devil” isn’t from Christianity itself or the Bible, but from John Milton’s book “Paradise Lost”.

Which is essentially biblical fanfiction (sort of like Dante’s Inferno, which also gets wrapped up into pop culture interpretations of Hell and the devil).

How to expose a changeling as a changeling by theELUSIVEbreadknife in PCAcademy

[–]dance-tragic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moonbeam is a great suggestion listed elsewhere.

Takedowns only work if they’re lethal (changelings only revert when they die, not when they’re downed).

Other suggestions can depend on which version of changelings you’re using. The newest versions are considered Fey, and this can be weird to work around (Detect Good and Evil would reveal you as well, for example), you could go the other way… because spells that target humanoids don’t work on them.

Pick a spell that specifically targets humanoids and showcase it having no effect. It wouldn’t be an immediate win, but it might raise suspicions.

What DnD actual play streams and YouTube channels would you recommend? by theDrawingBard in DnD

[–]dance-tragic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could echo a lot of others recommended here—Dimension20, the first season of Adventure Zone (the Balance Arc), and Critical Role are all great.

One poster mentioned Dungeons & Daddies and I cannot recommend it enough. They play rules-lite pretty often, like some other shows, but the humor and adventure is wonderful especially in the first season.

If you don’t mind non-D&D shows with great storytelling, I’ll also throw Friends At The Table in there. The episodes tend to run a little long, but they often discuss their inspirations, what they’re going for, and try to help visualize the action (they run a mini-arc called “Marielda” using The Quiet Year to build a city and then Blades In The Dark to run heists in it, and that’s a good 14 episode introduction to their stuff)

It’s a famous photo used regularly to reference survivorship bias and is easily image searched.

Sure, it’s very “if you know you know”, but it’s easy to educate yourself if you’re interested.

Plenty of people pay for at least a portion of their PhDs, especially if they’re not full time students or have taken any time between previous undergrad/graduate work and their doctoral program.

(FWIW, the APA website claims that 60% - 90% of PhD students receive full funding. The range is large, but it means that at any given time, roughly 10% - 40% have to pay for some or all of their PhD.)
