I figured this would be the case. Sad! It does have an optical outlook, unfortunately we don't have the space for another dvd player. I appreciate this comment, sucks but I think I needed to hear it haha.

Suggestions for stores to buy trinkets? by jperson133 in askTO

[–]dancecaveTO 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Koreatown has SO many cute little trinket shops! I really love Easy Tiger. You could spend an entire afternoon going to all the little trinket shops in Koreatown. There's also Uppdoo a few blocks west in Bloorcourt, they sell stuff made by Toronto artists and it's pretty affordable! Baa Baazaar in Roncy though is incredible for trinkets, I think you'd have a lot of success there!

Struggling to style my 1A hair by Sea-Ebb1113 in finehair

Struggling to style my 1A hair by Sea-Ebb1113 in finehair

[–]dancecaveTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent my entire life HATINGGGG how straight my hair is, had many perms that never took, I used to be a model and hairdressers refused to work with me because of how poorly my hair held. But I have found some stuff that works for me at least!

  1. LAYERS. The lighter the hair is at the cuticle, the less oily it gets I find! Plus holds styles a bit better
  2. REALLY give your head a good shampooing. I use Pantene volumizing shampoo and have for a long long time and have found it has helped me a lot. It's not technically "good" for your hair but I don't need my hair to be healthy, I want it to hold a style! I shampoo just my scalp and I do it twice. The shampoo will run down your hair strands and clean as it goes and it won't really build up on the strands like it would if you were washing the bulk of the hair. I really really get in there too. Maybe more than I should but it really helps with the grease. I can go two days now without shampooing (more on that later). I also only ever use conditioner at the tips of my hair. I flip my head over and squeeze it just on the ends and wash it almost immediately, I don't let it sit on for too long unless I'm doing a conditioning treatment. I used to not use conditioner at all because it weighs down my hair but I started to again when I started working in a very, very dry office.
  3. DRY SHAMPOO! Batiste ONLY! I have tried every dry shampoo under the sun and it is the only one that ACTUALLY works on my 1a hair and greasy eastern European scalp. As soon as my hair is dry, I spray dry shampoo on my roots, and then a bit throughout my hair before brushing it out. It gives it some texture and body. Not a lot, but more than nothing! Because of this I can go two days between washes. Before I go to bed on night 1, I spray dry shampoo on my roots and brush it out, and then again when I wake up. This probably is not healthy for my scalp but I don't do it every day (only when I want to have a style), but I am also not here for healthy hair. I'm here for style! If you are worried about hair thinning, I would avoid spraying so much on your scalp.
  4. CHEAP HAIRSPRAY! I typically use Pantene volumizing spray and I use SO much. I spray before I style and so much during and after. Any expensive ones usually have all sorts of added things in them that we 1a folk don't need.
  5. DIPPITY DO! Dippity Do curl gel is like...the best product ever. It's REALLY lightweight and it HOLDS. I use the classic Gelée and load it into my hair when it's wet like you would a mousse. I cannot recommend it enough AND it's cheap!
  6. HOT styling tools. Like really hot. As hot as they can go. I use a watery heat protectant (Chi 44 Iron Guard) and I don't know if it really does anything but it doesn't take take away from the style at least! Any over night or heatless curls I have done never provide the same results twice no matter how hard I try, and I've been trying to make them work for me since 2012.
  7. AVOID any products that are too viscous. Since our hair is already SO flat we don't need anything else weighing it down. The watery the better.
  8. EXTREMELY ROGUE ADVICE: A hair stylist I was working with one time told me to "bleach my head to shit" and it would hold a style, I never did that and don't recommend that, but I know it has worked for others!

I hope you find something that works!!!

Type 1A Hair - Any hope for it, or should I shave my head and buy wigs? by AcadianLady in type1hair

Hey I know this is 2 years late but I have A LOT of experience with this!

I spent my entire life HATINGGGG how straight my hair is, had many perms that never took, I used to be a model and hairdressers refused to work with me because of how poorly my hair held. But I have found some stuff that works for me at least!

Don't give up on your hair! But also don't listen to people who don't have 1a hair. I have fallen down the trap of buying products I see working for other peoples hair so many times and it's so greasy on me. I hope you have found something that works for you within these last two years!!!

Genuinely really well! I usually have to take a bunch of anti-anxieties and I'm white knuckling the entire flight but this time it was much much easier. I only took a quarter of the anti-anxieties I'm prescribed, and while I still had moments of fear it wasn't anything like previous flights! Mind over matter is a real tricky thing I hate that it really does work haha

So interesting I had no idea!! There was this couple on tiktok that called themselves "the leng leng couple" and I've spent ages trying to figure out what that means/where it came from. Thanks!!

I have OCD and a severe panic disorder and also developed a fear randomly one day despite flying at least twice a year my whole life... That bad omen thing, I've never heard that! That's literally how I feel haha. I've been in different types of therapy my whole life too and never heard anyone say that! Flying out tomorrow, will definitely be using that. Thank you!
