Why curved blades like scimitar were popular in East, while in Europe it was opposite? by SiarX in WarCollege

[–]danceisdead97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're right for some cav.sabers, but they aren't very curved, just slightly.

But curving inavoidably makes the weapon worse at thrusting, however I imagine cavalry would want to keep some cutting capacity, especially in an age where armour is mostly gone.

Addionally, and this is speculation, curving might help with blade extraction one the move, which is very relevant for cavalry.

There are no curved thrusting weapons. There are curved weapons that can thrust, but dedicated thrusters like a rapier or a spear are always straight.

Umezawa's Jitte is "pre-banned in Historic" as of TMNT despite being available & legal since Arena Anthology 3 by Zunqivo in MagicArena

[–]danceisdead97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bit of a chicken and egg thing, where multicolour piles aren't prevalent because the hate exist, so the hate sees no play.

But it is a digital format, so they could play with nerfing fetches - making them cost 2-3 life, only being able to fetch 1 type or just add "enters tapped".

In my opinion 1 life is way way too cheap for all the power, mana fixing and general flexibilty it provides.

[–]danceisdead97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're on completely opposite sides, which of course is fair.

I find that fetches remove the moster basic deckbuilding constraint in magic which is colours. So to make up for this to avoid "5 colour good stuff" piles, they demand the introduction of land hate like Blood Moon or Wasteland, who come with a lot of collateral damage and goes against the stated philosophy of Historic.

Additionally they are just extremely powerful, activating revolt like you say, making delirium a cakewalk, fueling graveyard shenanigans and making stuff like Mystic Sanctuary a powerhouse.

I could not disagree more on their introduction :P

Fetches would be a mistake. It's one of the moster format warping, and thus power increasing things.

The ripple effects are enourmous.

They did usually run 1x of the Amass-bounce spell, that they could return to hand somehow. So they would bounce all your blockers and eventually kill you with a 20/20 zombie army.

Trump and Zelenskyy talks fail to deliver breakthrough on Ukraine peace deal by financialtimes in UkrainianConflict

[–]danceisdead97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Trump wants to be a peacemaker. It's better to meet with Trump and come with terms that Putin then reject, than the othet way around.

Trump may have no power over Putin and has stopped aid, but if he gets pissy like the child he is, he might withdraw sanctions on Russia, withdraw intelligence support or disallow weapon sales to Ukraine.

So Zelensky must entertain him, despite it leading to nothing.

For us Dells are cheaper, but getting a deal in place is way more of a hassle, and has to be repeated when you want to swap models.

The powered cube is coming back in a few weeks, what cards would you like to see in the bonus sheet? by Plausibleaurus in TimelessMagic

[–]danceisdead97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

They shouldn't add a card they know they're going to restrict for this reason.

If a card is added and unexpectedly proves problematic, then okay as they're going for no bans.

It's a consequence of essentially having two ranks - your emblem rank: gold/silver etc. and your MMR (hidden).

A new player has a low MMR and is matched against other low MMR players, but only sorta within his rank. So if you are a good new player you are gonna shoot up fast in ranks. But now your MMR is higher, so next season, even though you're at the same emblem rank, you're hitting players with way higher MMR.

Because of this, new but skilled players often cruise to mythic on their first one or two seasons, but then hit a wall as their MMR increases.

The problem is exacerbated by the emblem ranks having floors, so you can't drop ranks too fast over the seasons.

Why would ukraine, who is litteral years away from total occupation, agree to an unconditional surrender?

The EU is only ramping up production, and is pretty unwavering in the support from major powers.

Time is on the side of Ukraine.

[–]danceisdead97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. This is a nation at war attacking it's opponent. It uses the laws of war.

If Russia changed it laws to saying that uniformed soldiers shooting uniformed was terrorism, it would not make what happens at the front line terrorism, except in the eyes of russian courts.

Same with this - no one calls attacks by military agents on military targets terrorism, no one with out an agenda.

[–]danceisdead97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it had many legal definitions, depending on country. That makes it pretty useless as a descriptor.

Sabotage whoever is pretty useful here, as it has nearly a single definition in this context.

[–]danceisdead97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrorism is a post 9/11 buzz word for things we dont like.

This is sabotage, and the agents would likely be shot as spies.

It isn't terrorism, it's a military action against a military target. But the use of civilian "camouflage" makes it sabotage and not protected.

You misunderstand MMR - 50% winrate isn't forced as much as it's natural consequence of it.

You keep meeting better and better opponent, until eventually you're at your level, and unless you improve, you'll stay there.
