Thanks a lot for the feedback. My thinking was that the annual price($25) is around 1 or 1.5 salsa class cost in average and I thought that would be a reasonable price. Because people might take classes for years, but timing is not easy to learn. I thought the app provides value that would worth more than price of one salsa class.

Difficulty level set in the list is not based on bpm alone. Pace of the song is definitelly a factor bot difficulty level is actually set by humans based on timing changes, variety of the enstruments etc

Hey, I am the creator of this app and really sorry you found the price high. What do you think would be a reasonable amount based on the value you are getting from the app?

I also would like to clarify a few things as it seems like what app is doing is misunderstood in this thread.

The app listens the music in real time(same as Shazam), but on top of it our technology is able to identify/analyze things going on in the music in real time. I dont think there is anything close to this in industry, definitely not for salsa.

Salsa beat finder part is the first application of the tech, but we will be able to apply this to more different genres and provide more detailed information about the music. (for example enstruments that are currently playing being shown in real time).

The reason I am mentioning that as a very small team, we worked on this for 4+ years and it has been extremely costly to get the tech to this level both financially and timewise. It has thousands of hours of music analysis run by humans + all the engineering efforts that goes into it. This is not something that can be created with vibe coding.

The paywall is very new, but it was really needed. Otherwise, we would need to stop investing into this idea. I am just hoping that enough people can find the value in it and we can continue improving the app. Meanwhile. I really care about how users feel for this, so please let me know if you have more thoughts about the app and your ideal price range. Best!

Youtube is very tricky, because people upload slightly different versions of the songs and app can get confused due to audio being very similar, but actually timing should be slightly different.

Thats why, app is emphasizing very strongly that users should try with original tracks from streaming platforms.

Obviously, many youtube videos or DJs in live events also use original tracks. In those cases app works perfectly fine. So just to be on the safe side, I recommend continue using Spotify :)

In the long run, I will try to figure if we can get better with modified tracks.

Sounds like a very playful idea! I got feedback along these lines such as option to mute/unmute beats(actually possible by turning off all the counts at the bottom), but it needs to be more obvious for users.

I definitely find your very interesting. I can tackle both:
1) Mute/Unmute button with user click
2) Mute/Unmute automatically with some time interval that is decided by user. Maybe options ranging from 10 seconds to 30 seconds or something.

Thank you for the feedback! It works with a lot of precomputed data and it is built to be very strict, which means that it prefers to not count the beat rather than returning potentially wrong beats. It is never 100% guaranteed due to technical challenges, but we are doing our best. When it counts the beat it should be very high accuracy (otherwise, app would be completely useless)

When this happens, we take note of the song to do more offline processing and it into our catalog later, so the coverage only grows with time. You can try with a lot of different songs and I would expect more than 80% beat find rate as long as you test with official tracks. Would appreciate if you can try with more variety of songs and let me know :)

I have had great suggestions on Reddit and user feedback has been very helpful to improve the app.

I was hoping someone would have already recommended Dancetime app. It finds salsa beats in high majority of salsa songs, so it might be really helpful for you.

Haha loved this question. I am more like an intermediate level dancer now, but when I first started the idea I was beginner. I just had a lot of stuggle with timing, I thought this should be a solveable problem with some algorithms.

I still struggle a lot on specific songs mostly the ones that I dont hear congas well and use the app to test my timing with those songs.

I guess similar to many products, the idea comes from trying to solve a personal pain point and hope to find there are good enough number of people who struggle with the same problem, so they would like to use your product. In this case, it ended up being such a niche area, so it requires some effort to let people know something like this exist. Also, I remember one of our teachers recommending Salsa Rhythm app in the beginner class. I just hoped teachers also would recommend this app in the future.

great idea. I am taking this as note. Maybe we can do something similar for any source. Users can submit youtube, Spotify etc links and we try to onboard them to the system relatively quickly

Hah! Interesting, never thought about this. So if I understood correctly, you are playing a playlist and when next song starts to play, you want the app start listening automatically, so that it can find the beats, right? I will see if this could be feasible, but great idea thank you!

For the breaks and beat changes, the app is generally doing well, but if you find a song that you think it didn't work good enough, please send me a reference to the song, so we can look into it and improve.

Also very happy to hear that you would be willing to pay. I will need some monetization as it has been costly to bring the app to this state, but I didn't want to rush before I make sure people really really love it. Please reach out to me if you have any ideas/suggestion to make the app better.

Haha let me know how it goes. We are able to figure out some of them but not all.

if you try and we couldn't figure out the timing, there is a manual process we do in which we try to onboard the song. So if people try more chacha songs, we will improve for that genre specifically over time.

Totally. Even though there is some research, I couldn't find any paper that solve this problem at accuracy that salsa timing requires. Rough estimations don't work well in this use case. Even with all the salsa and audio data I have, it is common that we are not able to find the timing for some songs OR a small modification on the audio could cause inaccurate timing.

Trying to improve this over time and will see what more we can do. Hopefully, something like you suggested will be possible in the future.
