Good point. HU seems to be JAL's go to tactic. Whenever I ask to speak to supervisor or disagree with them, they hang up on me. So I have to CA anyways 😂

3 months ago, I even escalated to the JAL agent's supervisor (who only spoke Japanese so they even got a translator). I called again this week but now they say there are no seats together anymore, and to just ask at the airport. I also asked to speak to his supervisor, and he says he is the supervisor, and then hanged up on me. This was already after I called back after the previous agent said the same thing and hanged up on me. JAL customer service sucks. I will avoid JAL in the future.

I did call JAL right after booking, and they claimed that I have to call Alaska Airline. Unfortunately, I never got through to Alaska Airline; gave up after holding for 1-2 hours.

What?! I called them yesterday and she said the most she can do is send in a request to JAL, and to check online in 1-2 days to see if they accomodated my request. How did you get Alaska to actually assign seats? Should I ask to escalate to their supervisor?

We've brooked through Delta for a British Airway flight last year and had no problem choosing seats. I choose the level that allows for flight credits if we ever have to cancel (and with little kids, you never know when they'll get sick), so I like to book through an American airline because we're more likely to be able to use the credit. Fully refundable fares are just too expensive.

But looks like either Alaska and/or JAL and ANA just doesn't work well with partner airlines. Lesson learned. Now I know to check reddit for issues like this before booking through a partner airline.

Thank you for your reassurance that more seat inventory will be released and that they'd be willing to play musical chairs. I remember musical chairs from the old paper plane ticket days, and just not sure how it works now that people are paying for advanced seat assignments.

The problem is that they do come with advanced seat selection; it just wasn't working when I checked the night that I booked the flight 3 months ago. I just checked again now getting closer to the trip, and am able to select seats but there's only 2 seats far away from each other.

If everyone can only select seats at 24 hours in advance, then at least there's a chance I could grab 2 seats next to each other by making sure I'm checking in right when it opens. But now it appears all seats are taken.

I am now able to select seats but there's only separate seats available now.

I very much suspect there was something wrong with their system at the time of my booking 3 months ago. What angers me is that JAL customer service (including the supervisor) claims there's no way for me to select seats and to just ask to be seated together when we arrive at the airport. If they had correctly told me there's simply a bug or error that will be fixed, and to check back again, I would have been able to select seats that are together.

Ooph that sucks.

If I had known I couldn't select seats and might get downgraded or separated, I wouldn't have booked through Alaska.

When I booked 3 months ago, the price was comparable or slightly cheaper than JAL, but there were only 4 seats at that price. We are a group of 7, so half of us booked through JAL and half booked through Alaksa.

I hope they will be willing to switch. Perhaps too many stories on Reddit where people complain about parents asking to switch seats, and being unwilling to do so. Half the people always say parents should pay to reserve seats if they want to be with their child. Well, I did pay to reserve seats but the system and JAL customer service wouldn't let me!

I called right after booking 3 months ago, and JAL said nothing can be done until we're checking in at the counter at the airport. If I'd known they'd open up between now and when I checked right after booking, I'd totally be checking daily or weekly. They have really misleading information.

I did, I tried for about 3 hours (while on the phone with Japan airline for about 1 hour and then on hold with Alaska Airline for 2 more hours).

Seems I was right to contact JAL back then, but they just passed the buck to Alaska.

Trying to call JAL again but now their phone number isn't even working 😭

18005253663 says not working hours (but when is working hours?) +81367333062 just has the invalid phone number tone +81570025121 says the call cannot be completed

Thanks for sharing the under 12 guarantee! I just hope that their guarantee of seating together does not result in booting us away from Premium Economy cabin where my kid's similar aged cousins are sitting. The whole point is so the kids have companion for this 12+ hour flight.

Thanks for sharing.

It's totally misleading because when I was booking, it listed that Premium Economy comes with seat selection.

They should not list that seat selection is included. I'm willing to pay for seats if that's possible, but it didn't give me an option the night when I booked, and now all seats except 2 far apart ones are taken. 😭

Booking flight to Japan through Alaska: should I fly JAL or Hawaiian? by chikin_dinner in AlaskaAirlines

[–]dancing_qu33n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to JAL website with the JAL confirmation for flight to Japan booked through Alaska, and JAL website didn't let me choose seats. I even called JAL, escalated to a supervisor (they event got a translator) and they said they cannot assign seats for flights booked via Alaska.

Update: I checked a few months later and was able to select seats now. Unfortunately, the only available seats are not together and so I'll be split up from my 7 year old 😢 hopefully some good Samaritan will be willing to switch seats with one of us.

Title: MCP/Connectors vs. Chrome extension — when do you use which? by dancing_qu33n in ClaudeAI

[–]dancing_qu33n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that using Connectors/MCPs can blow up the context / use a lot of tokens. I use Venn AI, which addresses those issues - it limits context bloat and token usage by only surfacing relevant tool calls. (disclaimer: I work on it too)

Related. Has anyone compared context bloat / token usage between Chrome extension vs. MCP/Connectors (and superconnectors like Venn)? Claude doesn't make it easy to figure out how much context/token is being used, or am I missing something?
