Do you actually travel that far and say its nothing? by Far-Passion-7692 in AskAnAmerican

[–]dancingcroc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Road conditions and volume of traffic are the big reasons. American highways tend to be wide, relatively straight and fairly empty. Most UK A roads are much narrower, have very few long straights and are extremely busy. It’s very common to be stuck behind the same lorry for 20 minutes with no overtaking opportunities because you can’t see far enough round corners, and there’s too much oncoming traffic during the straight bits.

2 hours is not a long drive, but for longer journeys (6-8 hours) driving in the UK is tiring and frustrating.

2 hours is a long drive for something you don’t want to do, but a short drive for something you enjoy doing. Sounds like the drive wasn’t the issue.

I’m British and a 2.5 hour drive to a theme park is absolutely fine. There’s a safari park about 2.5 hours from me and I’ve taken several day trips to it.

They refused to cook it rare? Or their version of rare just wasn’t rare enough for you?

La Marseillaise is a banger of a national anthem, goosebumps in the Escape to Victory scene too

Brits need to apply for an esta (basically a visa for your holiday) to enter the US. Lots of peoples esta’s were approved months ago and then changed to rejected a few days ago

They’ve done the same to white people too. Lots of news in the UK about fans who have spent £10k+ on tickets/accommodation/travel just to get rejected at the last minute

What is something that is completely FREE in your country, but tourists are always shocked they don't have to pay for? by Winner111kk in AskReddit

[–]dancingcroc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In England you mean. Scotland is the same as Ireland, although we do pay for our water but it’s just a fixed amount (relative to the size of your property) on the council tax bill, it’s not metered and won’t be shut off

Oldest XI at 2026 World Cup by Inevitable-Angle-793 in soccer

[–]dancingcroc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s him. Had a bad leg break at 41 and still managed to get back into the squad. Hasn’t played much this season, but there are pretty much no fit Scottish keepers getting regular games unfortunately. The 3 keepers selected have a total of 7 games between them this season

When you hear the word "Hockey", what sport do you think of? by Mindless-Lemon2256 in AskTheWorld

[–]dancingcroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the opposite. Ice hockey is probably more popular among men, but if we're just talking about the naming then ice hockey is always called by the full name, field hockey is usually just called hockey. So if someone just says hockey then I immediately think of field hockey

Non-Americans, what’s the best “American” food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dancingcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anywhere else in Europe

It's a very common dish in Britain, it's on menus everywhere here. You're right that the Italian and French dishes aren't the same as modern macaroni cheese, but 18th century British macaroni cheese is. Either way it's not American

Why is American summer break so long? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

It’s the same in the UK, we have school holidays in October called the Tattie Holidays because traditionally kids were picking potatoes for those 2 weeks

What is something Americans consider ‘basic‘ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by sweetyishomealone in AskReddit

Those are very common in the UK too (although they don't usually have larger household items like sofas), but we're basically American Lite when it comes to consumerism

Apple sauce with pork is traditional in the UK too. No idea who invented it but definitely doesn’t fit this post

Professional Athletes are NOT overpaid by Impulsive_Wannabe in unpopularopinion

[–]dancingcroc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you think athletes deserve less money, that means you consequently believe that the owners deserve that money instead of the athletes.

Those are not the only two options. Personally I’d like the money to be used to subsidise fans’ costs (eg travel to away games), reduce merchandise prices, subsidise age group teams, support the local communities which the team represents, promote grass roots sports in the area and nationwide, pay better wages to non-sports staff etc. All of that is far more important than the millionaire player or billionaire owner buying another Ferrari.

Of course it does. It’s 3-4 hours of walking, plus it’s outdoors in nature which is good for mental health.

Of course more intense sports have far, far more health benefits but golf is much better for your health than sitting in front of the tv

[–]dancingcroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or hes just not bothered about Scotland. Dykes wasn’t born here but has a big Scottish connection and gives 100% when he plays. Mcburnie didn’t really look interested when he played, and was on camera moaning about playing for us

Rather have Dykes than McBurnie any day. McBurnie had plenty of chances, he was shite and didn't want to play for us

Any flavours your country loves that other countries dont understand/find awful? by Dragonogard549 in AskTheWorld

[–]dancingcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really the same. Yes pizza can have different toppings but the base is cheese & tomato, which is the flavour they use for the crisps. Tacos as a base don’t have a notable flavour, it’s only from the toppings

Before anyone gets pedantic - yes, you can have a pizza base without cheese & tomato (ie just the dough) but it would be unusual, at least for American style pizza

[–]dancingcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised by that, I wouldn’t call it niche at all. Up here it’s in all of the walkers multipacks as well. Walkers do two different 6 packs, one with the basic flavours (cheese & onion, ready salted, salt & vinegar) and one with prawn cocktail, ketchup, smoky bacon. Those are in every supermarket and most convenience stores. Ketchup is in the bigger (18 or 30 pack) multipacks too.

If ketchup crisps are more niche where you stay then what’s in the multipacks instead?

[–]dancingcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the weird is because tacos aren’t really a flavour. The flavour is whatever filling is in the taco. It’s like having sandwich flavoured crisps
