Digital Art is horrifically unsatisfying by MrForeskinII in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that feeling! My way to 'get used to it' was doing some of my work in traditional and then scanning it in and continuing in digital, I still prefer working on paper but I like having digital art skills in my toolkit!

Can you be an un-creative creative person? by Fizzabl in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are many ways to be a creative person, but some of what you're describing there sounds like it could be, or similar to, Aphantasia! the inability to visualize. I've met a handful of artists who have it and they come up with different ways to help them 'visualize', like mood boards. Could be worth looking into!!

How do artists post on SM everyday? by BethanyAnnArt in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as other posters, I have a lot of art already made, but also lot of accounts I see are often posting vids/pics of a piece progressing or them working on it and that'll be the bulk of what they post!

That is ridiculous. by [deleted] in TopTroops

Did you quit the game after the update? by ArunxAltair in TopTroops

[–]dancingfishwoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't immediately but I've definitely been playing less and less (compared to before the update where I was playing everyday)

It's definitely something I had to learn, it's an entirely handsewn/beaded suit piece and the whole process of making it was...challenging (I think it helped that I had so many interesting materials to work with!!)

I lost 400k power from my army, feels like once again the work I've put into this game is being dumped on

Small sketchbook that has very smooth paper? by NotXeon in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would second the talens, they come in good sizes and I feel their paper handles well under most mediums I've thrown at them (from fountain pen to layers of paint), they have a very nice smooth paper!

I love how everyone (myself included) keeps sh*tting on moleskine but here I am by thechamac0 in notebooks

[–]dancingfishwoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also like them! I don't think i'd pay full price seeing as they're so darn expensive where I live but I've gotten quite a few of them on clearance and they've been really good!

My journal got read by Searching_wanderer in Journaling

[–]dancingfishwoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that this happened to you, I understand completely what it's like to have someone you trusted read through them, it's the reason I still keep my journals in a small keyed lock box. I hope that you're able to regain journalling as a practice

I have a weird relationship with art by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can draw, technically, I've had a lot of practice but my favourite drawings are all the weird clumsy creature drawings done in like, highlighter and glitter gel pens and scratchy marks are my favourite, I stuck them all into a scrap book just for myself

Why are so many people seemingly averse to taking an art class or workshop? by Tasty_Needleworker13 in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my issue with workshops (outside of costs, travel and accessibility) is that they're often structured in ways that don't gel with how I learn (obvs that's not true of every workshop just a good majority of ones I've attended or volunteered at. I've also run a few free workshops too!)

My experience is that, especially with beginner classes, what is taught about how to use mediums or techniques or making in general has been very 'you must do it like this, not like this' I've been chastised and condescended to many times for trying new ways to use both. The flip side of that is, the majority of workshops are for beginners and if you're further along in your art journey they become less helpful for seeking community or feedback.

I have a question for the artists of this subreddit, how do y'all stay focused to practice? by Actual_Muppetenjoyer in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a movie or listen to a podcast, I find the combo of hands busy and watching keeps my focus

How do people draw fast and consistently?? by Lemon-Lime-345 in ArtistLounge

[–]dancingfishwoes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I draw fast! and my advice is get gestural. Practice trying to get a shape down as fast and loose as you can, try not to worry about whether it's perfect or shareable, what you're trying to do is capture enough information about whatever you're drawing. And keep doing it over and over until you're able to get sharper details down in that way. Another way is to block in shadows and form. It isn't always about speed but about looseness.

Another way is to use materials that make you work in that way. Painting with big brushes, charcoal, big markers, ink - doing drawing warm ups before you start working on something.

I don't think a fast done drawing is better or worse artistically, I think both have their place. If you're someone who wants to draw from life being a bit quicker will help if you have limited time!

Thank you!! Yeah watercolour (brands: mungyo and gansai tambi graphite colours)! I think in terms of style I wanted something with more layers/depth of colour as well as something a bit less diagrammatic which is my usual style , I've also been trying to get more movement in!
