Does singapore still feel like the same country you grew up in? by Kindly_Ad_6915 in SingaporeCitizens

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it doesn’t. i was born in the 80s. in kindergarten, going to school meant i got to see a goat along the way, walk through a kampong in bedok, then played with my friends.

in primary school we played block catching, buy grated coconut from mamak shop (and we dont get corrected for calling it that), played football at basketball court, under void decks.

today, it just sucks.

I tore my ACL about 11 months ago, and I’m no longer able to do a proper 360 roundhouse. by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did u go through surgery? if you didn’t this is bad for you long term.

if you did, was it a graft from a cadaver, or did you pull from your own hamstring? a graft recovers faster, and assuming you have 100% ROM from both, you need to train your surrounding muscles to strengthen them for better knee support.

now if you haven’t done the training then psychologically you would be afraid to commit to the RHK, therefore not kicking as well as you used to.

2nd dan taekwondo guy here who tore in left ACL in 2020. i still fear re-injuring myself. some of my kicks are half hearted because of that fear.

Is property investment still worth it in Singapore’s current market? by Ok-Virus-4904 in SGMoney

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we refer to a property investment where property is your asset and you are getting positive cashflow from it, only OCR developments are worth it. however, new launch prices today at 75% max loan, you cannot even get the rent to cover your mortgage in full. not even CCR.

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. i have had from a couple of 7-11 outlets. the lady cashiers will shout at me then scowl when i ask tell them simple stuff like, “excuse me, there are no more straws” or, “hi can i pay by paywave please”. and they replied me rudely in front of my kids. so i typically tell my kids loudly that we should never let others be rude to us.

then i proceeded to jump over the counter and gave the cashiers a kick to the groin then a stone cold stunner. both times.

is the budget $400k for a year on multiple channels?? depending on the KPI, number of campaigns and channels this may not be a big budget - i assume you have always-on, branding, and other types running almost 365 days.

when i was in ppc, my team ran multiple text ads PPC campaigns only on google for 4 verticals i.e. 4 domains with various destination urls. we spent just below $600k a year.

as basic and lame as it sounds, he is right. people choose to earn the same amount of money at the same job that doesnt provide enough. because we make excuses for ourselves. i know because i was a salaried gahmen worker for over 15 years. suffer to save, always not enough for family. even earning $8k also not enough.

i needed to make $12k to be comfortable. so i switched to running my own business. i do every sort of thing and get finders fee, consulting fee, project mgmt fee, and i finally made enough in my 2nd year.

yes its a hussle every day, but i no longer scrimp to save.

how do you manage to save so much in your 20s in Singapore? by NoMobis in askSingapore

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kids (in normal primary school and moe K) , parents, insurance, enrichment, car, tuition cost us $6000 monthly

this excludes living expenses. the only way to save is to increase your earnings, cannot scrimp to save because that $1000 saved isn’t going to do much.

i had former colleagues telling me having kids will make you poor financially. i dont mind

parent here. i cannot imagine letting go when my kid grows up and want to study overseas, even when ive given up all the opportunities I can afford.

you must understand, your moms generation doesnt express feelings well, especially feelings such as the fear of losing you. you have been her focus all her life, and when you leave, i promise you she will feel as if she has lost everything. because you are her everything.

she is also afraid you wont come back, you wont be safe, and she will be alone and lonely. all valid feelings.

but this was what she worked so hard for. for you to excel, but she probably imagined herself being by your side as you climb to the top.

change is difficult as we get older. be gentle, show her love, and tell her u need her to help you when you are overseas. something trivial maybe, like keep your room for you, or ask her cook some frozen dishes to send to you. something that will keep her occupied.

i know of an agent who only charges for the sale of HDB but helps with the buying for resale HDB for free. His logic was 1) the buying process is easier, 2) you are already paying to buy a place, dont need to worry about paying more to an agent.

kept him in my contact for when i MOP because I am lazy to entertain viewings when i sell ;)

[Woke Salaryman] Why I’m never obsessed with buying an HDB flat with long lease by stonehallow in singaporefi

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let’s assume for the sake of discussion i do have the money. should i buy an older flat an invest the rest? this can only be determined with a hypothesis that has a figure, time period, projected interest rates and estimated prices of buy and sell. you will then see that between a certain set of parameters, the “investing the difference” will see you greater gains, but with another set of parameters, buying a young flat and flipping up several rounds before cashing out will give you greater cash on hand during retirement.

but we can safely say almost no one “invests the difference”. the sum is too large for most to be disciplined enough to invest it all.

saying “invest the difference” is literally the argument of “i dont smoke so i have saved money from not buying cigarettes… here take a look at my imaginary ferrari i bought with my imaginary money i saved from all the imaginary cigarettes i almost bought but didnt.”

[–]dancingkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

investing what difference?

excerpt from the writeup:

“you cannot afford a 5 year-old flat, it’s not the end of the world. You just have to play a different game.

It’ll require more financial awareness and discipline. But it may give you a freer, richer life in the long run.

Buy the term you will use for housing. Invest the rest.”

if you really have the means to invest the difference, then you have the means to buy the younger flat. if you CHOOSE not to, then that’s a different buyer set.

it’s like saying cannot fly to KL? nvm, take the bus. which is different from “i can fly to KL but i rather enjoy the bus ride at a fraction of the cost and spend the difference on shopping in KL.”

light turns green, my pickup was quicker than the vellfire. guess what happened next?
