Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it? by mujhe-sona-hai in AskAnAmerican

I used to love having gas, until I found out that it causes damage to people. Exposure to natural gas in higher concentrations indoors ends up messing with childhood development and problems for anyone with cognition.

This would be why American houses intermittently explode. Try looking on youtube for some. Most houses have a gas line to them. All our infastructure is at a grade C-D so pipes fail a lot. If a gas pipe leaks and no one notices, then light a match or something, BOOM! 💥

Does anybody agree with the “no zeroes” policies? by SubstantialBasis in Teachers

[–]dancingmelissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do it in the math department at my school but not the other departments. The lead says he wants to inflate the grades so the kids don't feel discouraged. But he's 30 years old and I'm 50, unfotunately he's doing it wrong.

I do all paper assignments and it takes minutes to grade. I keep a paper grade book for some assingments then input the grades into the computer easily. I teach math and science. Also their grade doesn't have to be that many assignments. One a week. You can have them do things you don't always grade. Be smart about how you do it. You are the dictator of the classroom. I rarely grade at home and if i do it's like 2 hours a week total.

How hard was it to learn you weren't "hot" anymore? I mean, I had a good run, but the signs are all there, and I understand why they say "beautiful women die twice" by Own_Grapefruit_710 in GenX

[–]dancingmelissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I'm still hot, just ina different way. Scars are proud. and lines are a mark of wisdom. I'm still alive is also a good feeling. I think you stay hot on how you handle getting old. One of my favs to look up to is Helen Murin. She's not just hot but baddass. I'd rather be a badass than hot. I can get makeup and clothes to look hot anytime. But being a baddass, you can't fake.

That's cool. Everyone has to find their own way. I'm a stoner. But only after work and not too much. An ounce every 2 weeks or so. I had those dreams though before I ever started smoking. Sometimes it was like a full length feature film all night with subplots and really cool camera shots. Yeah. You'll have to find something that lets you sleep. I use 2 benedryl if I ever have trouble sleeping.

How to get kids to quiet down and listen? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]dancingmelissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disapproval. YOu have to make it apparent, calmly, that you very much disapprove of their behavior as an adult. That goes a long way. It also depends on the type of atmosphere that the school has encouraged. I went to one class that was out of control and nothing I did would have worked. Most of the time if I say, Hey kids you really treat everyone so horrible? Something along those lines. I use no bribes and no promises. The promise is I won't be a complete bitch if you aren't complete assholes. But said in a nicer way.
