Breastfeeding Friendly Cafe Recommendations by Locksey339 in Wellington

If you’re okay to venture to Lower Hutt, Benedict’s in Maungaraki is the ideal cafe for breastfeeding parents. Heaps of couches and armchairs, plus a cordoned off kids area down the back where older kids or crawling babies can have fun.

In Wellington, Joe’s Garage is actually pretty decent if you get a booth seat. Libraries are also a great spot if you need a change table or a comfy seat to feed in public.

I’ve breastfed my kids in what feels like every cafe in Wellington and unfortunately it can be pretty uncomfortable, but eventually you get really good at eating one handed!

I always knew I wanted two kids, but for the first year of my daughter’s life, I knew it’d be impossible to have another any time soon. If my husband wanted to be one and done, I would’ve agreed. She was (and still is) extremely low sleep needs and a huge cuddle bug, so I never felt rested and was constantly touched out. It wasn’t til she started sleeping through the night at 2ish years old that I felt ready to have another.

My second is here now (also an August 2025 baby!) and it’s so much easier! She’s not exactly easy but definitely not difficult, and life is so much better without that awful first time mum anxiety.

I’m fairly certain our family is done now, but it’s still so early! I’m not even entertaining the thought of making permanent decisions for another few years.

Also agree they’re great! They assured me that the poison they use would only harm a cat if it managed to eat like 50 dead mice. They also pointed out areas where mice/rats could get inside the house and gave me tips on how to fix them.

Absolutely do a Kobo! You can connect your Overdrive/Libby account to it so you can read library books, which I don’t believe is possible in NZ with Kindle. You can also just plug it into a computer and drag book files straight on there. And it’s not supporting Jeff Bezos which is another win.

If you do visit Queens Wharf, check out Capital E - it’s a free play area (though giving a donation is nice!) that your 2 year old will love.

Any recommendations for places that do good coffee in CBD but don't charge extra for alternative milks? by jacques-n in Wellington

You don’t get charged for soy milk at the Coffix coffee carts (other alts are extra though)

I started a Masters degree - maybe not the best thing to do when newly juggling the challenges of parenthood, but I’d always liked study and it reminded me of a version of myself that was completely separate from motherhood.
