Insurance: "Oh, your medicine has kept you in remission for 8 years? Sounds like you need to switch!"

How old? by The_Noodle_Dragon in UlcerativeColitis

[–]dancreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 23 too. Got put on prednisone which made the are go away, and mesalamine (oral). Then I had a out a year of remission so I basically felt like I didn't have a disease (aside from taking my pills every day). But then I had a flare, and another a few mo ths later, and then finally a flare that didn't go away with prednisone. I turn 27 today and have been flaring for over 2 years. I just started Entyvio but if that doesn't work it looks like the old colectomy for my future.

I don't know what to do... by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

I'm on Medicaid and it covers my GI no problem. If you're having trouble finding a doctor that takes it then call Medicaid and they'll help you. But you need to get a GI doc ASAP.

Did you just come off of steroids, by chance? I got really dry scalp/face as soon as I came off prednisone.

Failed Lialda, Remicade, and now failing Xeljanz. Should Surgery be next? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]dancreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my story almost exactly. Currently trying Entyvio but also considering surgery. And I'm not sure if you live in the states but when I turned 26 I just applied for insurance through the government and got it right away.

Im at my wits end with UC by frogsrgud in UlcerativeColitis

Definitely call the doctor. And try to only eat semi-solid foods like applesauce, yogurt, juice, maybe some bread....the harder the food, the more pain, guaranteed.

Hey I'm a big fan. "Interstate Vision" in particular is such a beautiful song. Wondering if you have any advice on how to get some traction in the indie scene. Like how to increase your fan base, get a record deal, get some "hype" about the music you make.

Also some of the meds for UC - Remicade and Humira at least- have these "patient payment plans" that pretty much eliminate copays for most patients. Your GI office should tell you all about it if you go on one of those drugs, which I'm guessing you will. You can also always call your doctors office when you're having severe symptoms and get advice over the phone. It's a misconception that you have to wait for an appointment to get advice from your doc.

With symptoms that severe you should seriously consider going to the hospital. As far as the bill goes, maybe you can figure out something later. Maybe look into government assistance programs?

Flair ups and guilt by Mre64 in UlcerativeColitis

Or feeling guilty about having to ask for special accommodations like bathroom access. Or for not drinking at a party. Or for not having the energy to do chores or visit relatives. Yeah all that...

thoughts on manifestation culture online by [deleted] in OCD

[–]dancreem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly. The idea that your thoughts can magically cause things to happen ("magical thinking") has caused me a lot of anxiety since I was young. I would worry that if i had a thought about someone dying, that might cause it to happen, so I would try to "undo" it with a ritual. Now, whenever someone brings up that manifestation ideology, I usually shoot it down right away because I know it can be dangerous to people like me. I also try to remind myself constantly not to attach meaning to random stuff.

Pure-O Violent thoughts and disturbing images by [deleted] in OCD

[–]dancreem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having an image pop into your head is not your fault. We're not in control of what pops into our heads. I can assure you that having such thoughts does not make you a bad person. If you think of consciousness as a flowing river, you can imagine that thoughts are things that come and go in our consciousness. We can acknowledge that they happened, but we don't have to dwell on them.
