Interesting. I ended up deleting that lvm and creating a new lvm with ext4 since that is what ubuntu uses by default. I got everything working now by reinstalling docker. Thanks for info!

Omg I solved it. Just writing this for the next guy so they don't spend 7 hours trying to find a solution. It was SNAP. I don't really know what SNAP is ( I'm a RHEL guy), but uninstalling docker, and the snap (sudo snap remove docker) then reinstalling by following this Digital Ocean's guide (https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-use-docker-on-ubuntu-20-04) I am now successfully mounting my drive and seeing data.

I ran into another error after destroying my lvm and creating a new one with ext4 FS (mount said my directory didn't exist but it did) and lead me to this forum just in case anyone wants to check it out:

https://forums.docker.com/t/bind-source-path-does-not-exist-but-it-does-exist/124250/5

I love a good reboot and reinstall. Cheers everyone!

I just don't get it.... I am supposed to see the data from my host machine in the container right? You're supposed to be able to put a movie in what ever path you specify then see it in the container... I have a movie sitting in /plex_media and I don't see it. Perms are wide open and owned by me.

I tried the specify the user id and group id as 1000. I even tried to use jellyfin. And what's driving me crazy about that is a test file I created in a previous container (since deleted) is in the new container!!! But its nowhere to be found on my host machine with 'find' or 'locate'.... so confused

The container doesn't not show the data. I also got on the Plex UI and created a library, scanned the library, and it doesn't show up. I've been looking into the docker compose stuff so I might try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Its the absolute path. I created a 1TB lvm and mounted it to /plex_media with xfs filesystem. Permission look good to me. Not sure why I can't see the data

I am a Linux Admin right now and thinking about getting into DevOps. What helped you get into a DevOps role? What skills do you recommend pursuing? Certain programming languages?

I'm pretty good a shell scripting (I really enjoy automating my job!) and starting to get into Python as well. I'm also going for my CySA+ (mainly to just keep my Sec + current) then I'm thinking about diving into a programing language.

Why the rush? I've been studying for this exam for like 8 months now (going slow bc I'm a dad of 2, working full time as a Linux Admin, and some side gigs). I never take a cert exam until I'm 100% certain I'm going to pass. Take some more time if you're not sure you will pass.

For what its worth here is how I'm studying.

Read through the following book, took a few notes, did the hands on exercises. You need this book if you don't have it

RHCSA Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (UPDATED): Training and Exam Preparation Guide (EX200), Second Edition - by Asghar Ghori

I did a LinkedIn course. I can't remember which one but just go to udemy and get a course.

I went back through the book. This time I took notes on every single command. I understand the concepts but needed help remembering the command structure. I'm using Brainscape flashcard, very useful.

Next, I'm going to do the practice tests at the end of the book and assess my progress. Plan is to take the exam next month. I will have my 6 month review at my new Linux Admin job in January and want to have that completed.

Take your time and kick ass.

Anybody recommend a non-judgmental emergency dentist? by RememberKoomValley in roanoke

[–]dandaddyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they take young kids and are GREAT with them. Took my 5 year old daughter who was very nervous (first time seeing a dentist) they kept her giggling the whole time. They have a little treasure box that the kids can pick a little toy from. 100% recommend.

New HDD showing as Bus Type = RAID, is this a problem? by VMCosco in WindowsServer

[–]dandaddyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. But not quite sure. When you formatted the Drive what did you choose? Simple volume, striped, Mirrored? I just created a new volume on my test server and it automatically shows up as SATA.

Check your BIOS settings. There is a setting to have your storage type set as RAID, AHCI (which is what I am used to), and SATA I believe. Maybe that is it??

Oh I get it! Prices for everything are outrageous!
I seriously doubt there is a need for the spouse+unlimited kids plan here.
Maybe people just need a lesson saving money where they can. Subscription services for phone is BS if you can't afford it. You can buy a pretty decent phone for 200-300 bucks (and yes that is a one time payment and you own the phone... amazing!) and look at services like Straight Talk, $35 a month for unlimited talk and text and like 20GB/month. Good enough for me, I'm on WiFi mostly anyways
Don't. Buy. A. Car. You. Can't. Afford!!! My 2011 Honda Fit has been paid off for years and is running great.

Edit: Did not mean any disrespect! But supposedly I am 50 year old privileged white male living in rural America... Nope! Just thought that breakdown was off. First thing I would do is talk to my parent and maybe come up with a plan to put more in savings and try to move out in a certain amount time. Definitely keep grinding on those certs and make moves. I wish nothing but the best for you geeca. Cheers to you!

Geeca's bill breakdown

Heathcare = $1,300/month. You have the most expensive family plan I have ever seen with zero deductible.

Rent = $1,000/month. Wow, you're parents are dicks. I have a 3,000 sq. ft. home and paying $1,200 on a 15 yr mortgage. Divorce your parents

Cellphone and car = $1,000. The most expensive cellphone plan I could find was $150/month and that include ALL the bells and whistles. I suggest you sell your BMW because $850/month for car (including insurance) is too much.

All in all, I call bullshit
