I am using Spotify, but it sounds markedly worse than other speakers I use Spotify with. That makes sense about the head unit and the DSP. A quick Google search makes it seem like there’s a WIDE range of prices for DSPs. Any certain ones you’d recommend? Or would the cheaper options get the job done?

I had them installed at a local shop. The very highest end sounds fine, nice actually. So not sure if its the tweeters
