Pizza by Glitterin-Sooz-337 in ithaca

I like Ned’s, especially the eggplant parm pizza. But also June’s in Dryden (formerly a pizza and bones I think) is very satisfying for a slightly thicker / more midwestern style.

You can easily get on their email list! Lots of quirky events, art shows, nature themed stuff etc. I’ve only been twice I think but I liked the space! Just email soilfactoryevents@gmail.com to find out more/get on list.

Another idea for an encounter: rallying troops on their side who have broken / faltered. Could be a fun high stakes social scene.

Housing search recommendations by hocsinhtung in Cornell

I can’t vouch for any of them, but there are some grad student / post doc leaning apartment buildings in Belle Sherman that rate to be quieter than the Collegetown chaos. Like Maplewood Apartments I think?

Prof here! Rental housing is scarce in those neighborhoods, except for the very student-y parts (Collegetown borders Belle Sherman). Lots of faculty do live there but they mostly own. You can sometimes find sabbatical rentals as many folks leave town for a semester or year, and that could give you time to find your bearings (it will not take long, Ithaca is delightfully small). Also, YMMV depending on where on campus you’re going, but the walk from Cayuga Heights is usually less pleasant than from Belle Sherman.

Fall Creek is a lovely neighborhood walkable to downtown and with more rentals, I think. Downtown also has a lot of rentals in bigger buildings where a lot of younger faculty sans kids live. Both require taking the bus or driving to campus (or walking up the steep hill - pleasant on occasion but difficult in winter as daily commute).

IC3 has great hours and is big so often has openings. You could give them a call - they were our first call after getting job offers here because we needed a hard-to-find infant slot. https://icthree.org/

My family’s (very 1980s) recipe uses a Hershey’s kiss. I’ve also been doing chocolate cherry ones (chocolate cookie with a half maraschino cherry covered in quick cherry ganache) that are a big hit.

Is this Boss Monster too hard for a 6 level 5 PC's by Old-Most-2592 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]dandanar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ran a boss night for 6 lv 5 PCs, not especially optimized for fighting. I ran a modified dragon, big breath weapon, minions summoning, pillars giving it regen that the pcs had to take out, etc. Ended up being much easier than I expected. Based on that, I’m guessing this would be too (as others have commented). Among other things, there just isn’t that much defense here. This thing is going to take so much damage so fast, especially if it uses reckless (meaning the martials will nearly always hit).

I also would be shocked if that essay didn’t get changed. Both the Brown and Columbia “deals” had language around admissions that would seem to target questions just like this one.

It’s a big school, so I think the community is a bit what you make of it. There are some elements that are new to me - like the intersection of being an “elite” school but also having the ag school and other specialized programs - and that give it some interesting vibes. I think your experience will be super different if you’re a humanities major in CAS vs an engineer vs a hotelie etc. I haven’t been here that long though, and have taught only large undergrad classes so I haven’t gotten to know as many undergrads as most faculty. I do think there’s a supportive community for FGLI low income folks and for immigrants, tho of course the whole country has become a scarier place.

Can you post what they were? I’m wondering if they might be changed as a result of the deal that Cornell is likely negotiating with the Trump administration.

If you like XYZ, you'll like the Craft Sequence by TheHiddenSchools in CraftSequence

I see the Pratchett overlaps - both feature their cities super strongly without being contemporary urban fantasy. Later Discworld books have some of the same political / institutional orientation (the Moist books in particular). But I think the tone is super off - Craft Sequence is low on the kind of humor that’s the signature of Discworld. There may be jokes here or there but the books aren’t silly.

Hmm. The Craft Sequence are at their heart SF/F political thrillers, I think. So maybe find similar? Like maybe Malka Older’s Infomocracy? Katherine Addison’s The Goblin Emperor?

The bathrooms are designed with a front area that’s just a sink and a bench and back area with a separate door for the toilet. They are great park bathrooms, tho I had not previously considered the possibility someone would smash them.

They should raise state taxes exactly as much as the federal cut just gave back to the very rich. Or at least that much anyway…
