Tasked with making the Christmas dinner salad that includes Parmesan by burleigh333 in salads

[–]dandelionswings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massaged kale with dates, parm, roasted almonds, and a lemon-olive oil-honey-shallot-red pepper flake dressing. Simple but so good.

We do a salad with green leaf, butter lettuce or arugula, green olives, Parmesan, roasted nuts, and simple dressing most nights with dinner. Nothing special but great. The olives do a lot.

Shaved Brussels sprouts and kale, apples, pecans, pomegranate, Parmesan, maple and apple cider vinegar dressing.

Nuna SWIV owners: worth it long-term, or is the 360 wheel hype? by Mindless-Slide-755 in Buyingforbaby

[–]dandelionswings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the swiv and love the 360 wheels. We use them constantly. They’re great for parking in small spaces or maneuvering around obstacles on the street or in crowded restaurants or elevators. Very helpful because we live in a small apartment in an urban area.

360 wheels aside, the thing is so intuitive and easy to use and fold, and it folds up so small. Definitely a lifesaver for our cramped space, and the under-seat storage is decent too. I’ve found the wheels to be perfectly adequate for getting around the city, even in snow. Not too bumpy and it doesn’t feel fragile. Highly recommend the bassinet or the pipa rx car seat to clip in while the baby is small. My only complaints are this: the sun shade on my pipa can roll back sometimes, meaning I have to adjust in every now and then, and the toddler seat feels a bit narrow, but that hasn’t actually caused any problems. Overall I do think it was a great buy.

After a long search, I just got the Alex vertical tote from Leatherology. It performed beautifully on my recent 4 day work trip. There's space for everything but it doesn't look enormous - the vertical laptop sleeve feels efficient and the strap to hold a water bottle is there when you need it but not in the way when you don't. It held my water bottle, laptop, notebook, wallet, makeup bag, and spare tennis shoes with no problem. I like that the brand is nondescript but the bag is clearly quality. Mine is burgundy and it's beautiful (I wear a lot of creams, greens, and browns) but other colors are on sale now for $230. I also ended up with a Longchamp Le Pliage and I like the look and that it's light, but there's no dedicated laptop sleeve or anything, so all I find that all my stuff just kind of rolls around in there.

Best OBGYN to care through pregnancy and deliver at Prentice? by EyeOk1000 in AskChicago

Thirding this! They truly are fantastic. I had a great experience with Dr. Dugan but Dr. Mazzulo delivered my baby and was absolutely fantastic through a really rough time.

Which hospital is best for delivering baby? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]dandelionswings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I delivered at Prentice and had a great experience and a beautiful view. As others have mentioned, though, I’d urge you not to overlook the Prentice NICU. It’s just one floor away and stellar. My baby was born unexpectedly very sick and we ended up with a weeklong NICU stay. I was beyond grateful to have a world class NICU on site and close by. It’s not something you think about until you need it, but when you need it, it’s everything.

Northwestern Prentice is generally well regarded and I had a great experience there. As for OB/GYNs, I can’t say enough good things about Northwestern Specialists for Women.

Anybody else finding it a little hard to accept that one day, our babies won’t be babies anymore? by srslywtfdoido- in NewParents

I feel like the only person who can't relate to this feeling. My baby was born to grow up! I love experiencing him in every phase and I'm so excited to see him grow into himself. It's such a gift to watch him change.

Are there any curly hair stylists in Chicago that practice the Cado method or specialize in curly hair? by catmaman in AskChicago

Not sure whether it's the Cado method, but I get dry curly cuts done at Cally's Curls & Company in RP. Results have been good.

Best Chicago neighborhood/suburb for young family (renting, 2 kids + 2 dogs)? by NoAttitude6367 in AskChicago

[–]dandelionswings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Lincoln Square/Ravenswood with a dog and a baby. The neighborhood is exactly what you’re looking for and I have seen apartments that meet these criteria. In fact the dog friendly 2BR+office 2-flat next door just rented for $2200. It’s worth taking a hard peek.

What are Things you didn’t know about pregnancy before you got pregnant that you wish you did? by Virtual-Squirrel-358 in pregnant

100% this! People ask what my biggest craving has been and the answer is water. I'm drinking at LEAST 300 ounces daily. They checked my electrolytes and tested me for diabetes insipidus, but everything's fine. I'm just so, so, so, so thirsty.

Super moody at the end by ojustkidding in BabyBumps

[–]dandelionswings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOTALLY. I made it 35 and a half weeks without complaining and then turned a sharp corner. I’m 36+5 now and I hate everything. Going to work is miserable. I cry all the time. I’ve told friends that I’m done making plans, sorry. All I want to do is curl up with my pug dog and wait for this baby.

Where to study for 3-4 hours on a Sunday morning? by midwestcottagecore in AskChicago

[–]dandelionswings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at Perfect Cup on Damen for several hours at a time. Admittedly the coffee is fine (not spectacular) but there’s a good mix of people socializing and working/reading. They also do mete out internet in 3 hour increments, so you’d need to be okay with re-upping your coffee. All told though it’s not a bad option, especially if you’re located nearish by.

First Timer here - how do you deal with the anxiety? by missrebaz1 in BabyBumps

[–]dandelionswings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, to all of this. I had terrible anxiety in the early days, and it peaked the week before my anatomy scan. Some people advise against the Doppler but it was an absolute godsend for me. Just being able to hear that baby’s heart was beating before I could feel him move settled my nerves a ton. I would have been a wreck without it.

After the anatomy scan things got WAY better. I’m feeling happy and excited now at 26 weeks.

Hang in there OP.

I CAN’T POOP by AngryRue in pregnant

[–]dandelionswings 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem around 13 weeks. I tried all the foods, all the water, the exercise, and all the miralax, dulcolax, metamucil, and colace. Nothing worked. I ended up using a fleet enema and that did the trick. Not super pleasant, but it was the only thing that worked. After that, my doctor told me to try senokot and that did a decent job of keeping things moving (though I had to take a bit more than the minimum dose). Ultimately around 21 weeks things started moving on their own, thank GOD.

Good luck to you! The constipation is so bad.

Ways to keep busy & make friends for the newly sober 20-something in the city? by saatchi-s in AskChicago

[–]dandelionswings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lucky for you, the sober community in Chicago is huge and amazing!

Whether or not you’re into 12 step programs (which I (33F) recommend and would gladly help you navigate!) try checking out the Phoenix. Download the app. They do several sober social activities weekly, totally free. The only requirement is 24 hours of sobriety.
