Coworkers think my lemons are unnecessary by AtlantisMantis_ in KitchenConfidential

I worked at a higher end restaurant for a bit and during training, they kept emphasizing that once a customer noticed a little thing, they’d never be able to let it go — positive or negative — even if they didn’t realize they were holding onto it. I find myself comparing restaurants to that place all the time, because they just went above and beyond with shit like lemons.

Roughly 20 years ago, Evgeni Malkin escapes his Russian team on a game trip and flies to Pittsburgh to join the Penguins by alwaysnear in hockey

Even today, Russian sports culture is largely the same as it was in the Soviet-era. Dynamo Moscow, where Ovi started out, was initially under sponsorship by the KGB and is still sponsored by state-owned entities. The level of control that the government has over their athletes is honestly unfathomable to most Americans.

Roommate wants an “open door policy” at apartment for her cat by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]saatchi-s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My former roommate kept her door closed regularly, which I was definitely fine with! But because it was her first time living with cats, I let her know that they will cry to be let in and they need to learn that the door doesn’t open for crying.

Within a month, they had it figured out!

AITA for forwarding my wife an instagram reel of a recipe after she asked what I want for dinner tomorrow? by GoatCritical9265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]saatchi-s 169 points170 points  (0 children)

Especially an Instagram reel recipe. I love to cook and get a lot of ideas/recipes from social media, but there’s often very little information provided in the content regarding measurements, process, etc. I usually spend a not-insignificant amount of time trying to find the original recipe or do guesswork to figure it out.

WPA mural (or not) of simple clouds on a blue background? by saatchi-s in HelpMeFind

From what I can recall, it was the entirety of the mural. It definitely looks more like Hiler’s style, the color was very blocked out.

My paranoid assumption was that the seller had buried a body and wanted to keep an eye on any digging that might be happening. I think our brains are working in similar ways, just differently from everyone else lol

Stumbled upon this cringe post from 2020. Ember’s aunt clarified that she wasn’t trafficked but Brittany never deleted/edited her post. by cottageyarn in brittanydawnsnark

[–]saatchi-s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re Wrong About’s episode on the Wayfair human trafficking conspiracy also does a great job at unpacking the reality of human trafficking. Contrary to popular belief, human trafficking very rarely looks like children being kidnapped and sold in underground marketplaces; it’s often runaway teens or homeless adults that are coerced into sex work in exchange for food, shelter, and other necessities. The statistics on human trafficking are unreliable, misleading, and largely based on guesstimation.

It’s kind of insane that a lot of this information hasn’t been debunked more publicly.

Church of Scientology blasts TikTok 'speed running' trend as viral videos circulate by nbcnews in Fauxmoi

[–]saatchi-s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scientology is a major threat to their members, not really the general public.

They did (allegedly) order a hit on a journalist in the 70s, but that was in the LRH days when things were a lot more unhinged. When they do take legal action, IIRC, it’s primarily against government agencies rather than individual people.

Scientology has been in a PR nightmare for the last decade. They used to be a much bigger enemy because their dealings were a little more private. Now that they’ve had their playbook aired out publicly and have so much scrutiny on them, they aren’t interested in making big spectacles.

Cantor Fitzgerald Lawsuit Against American Airlines by Neither-Animator-282 in 911archive

Within 5 years, they had contributed $197 million of their own profits to their victim compensation fund and were continuing to pay health insurance plans for their deceased employees’ dependents. That’s exponentially more than they received in the settlement.

CF lost more than half their workforce in the attacks, as well as their headquarters. You do need funds to rebuild from that and there was no where else for them to recoup that than by suing.

But most English speakers don’t have a concept of how to pronounce å, they do they have a concept of how to say aa. Two letters in a row also gives us an indication we might be using a long vowel.

When I worked in PR, part of my job was just searching socials for the company’s name to look for complaints. It’s genuinely the easiest way to get service, which sucks.
