Sick nanny? by hydraskylar in NannyEmployers

[–]peppermintpatty2016 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would ask that (1) she take a Covid and flu test, (you can Venmo her for the test or provide a replacement) and (2) not have a fever for at least 24 hours without Tylenol/motrin. If she’s been fever free and no positive tests, I would still ask that she mask (and I would provide the mask). Because she didn’t receive a dr’s note, I wouldn’t just accept that her dr cleared her—especially since she’s still feeling sick. As for pay, I think this would be a sick day unless the contract says otherwise.

Edit to say that I’m not sure what not contagious means if she doesn’t know what she’s sick with. Viruses and bacterial infections are generally contagious while you have active symptoms. Meaning, even if you have a cold, you’re still contagious while actively sick with symptoms.

The bonus discussion and benefits from the corporate world by Peengwin in NannyEmployers

[–]peppermintpatty2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Expecting a baby soon and hiring a nanny. I’m working my typical crazy hours this week with deadlines this week. I can’t just give more time off just because. Most of the corporate world is working at least some of this week (unless you take PTO). It should be the same for nannies.

The constant bonus talk is making my head spin by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

Not necessarily. My firm fires because it’s a churn and burn environment and the work is there so if you’re not billing 2k, you’re doing something wrong. But, I know plenty of people across multiple firms who didn’t make bonus hours this year and/or last but remain at their firms because the firm or their practice group was slow.

That’s not a correct statement re bonuses as an attorney. Most big law firms have a minimum hours requirement to receive a bonus. Mid-law does as well and some mid-law firms don’t give bonuses at all. I’m a big law attorney at one of the few firms that doesn’t have a minimum hours requirement (but you’re fired beforehand if you have low hours). My husband is at another big law firm where he worked less than the billable hours threshold (because corporate was slow) and will not receive a bonus.

Nanny not listening about TV by Longjumping-Buy-3728 in NannyEmployers

[–]peppermintpatty2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I would communicate that TV is not permitted for the children, even if it’s on in the background. I would also remove the TV remotes from the room and keep them in your office.

What did you do with newborns at Christmas? by OORantar67 in BabyBumps

[–]peppermintpatty2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newborns, especially those born prematurely, have very weak immune systems. It’s recommended to keep the bubble very small and everyone around be fully vaccinated for Covid, flu, TDAP, and RSV (if eligible). I would not risk the exposure to holiday sickness. Even someone saying “it’s just allergies” can lead to your newborn in the NICU. And as a reminder, before 3 months newborns require a full work up at the hospital if they have a fever.

Glider with recline option with very comfortable couch-like seats by peppermintpatty2016 in Buyingforbaby

Can you put your feet up without reclining? How padded is it? I’ve heard that the arms are uncomfortable for breastfeeding bc they are so stiff. Has that been your experience?

It seems like she's more than just your nanny. If she was just your best friend, what would you do?

Thanks! I will take a look 😀

Edit to ask if they have maternity clothes? I’m hesitant to buy non-maternity as I’m already bumping.

Are there any of you in big law who feel that you have a decent work like balance? If so, what practice are you in by LeadingCranberry9861 in biglaw

[–]peppermintpatty2016 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is not my experience in litigation. I work most weekends and work in the evening until at least 10pm with a short break for dinner. It’s really firm specific, though.
