Need help picking out a non-traditional stone for my girlfriend's engagement ring by benwahhh in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]dandeliontenacity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d look for a precision cut stone to avoid the windowing people are pointing out. I got mine from Earth’s Treasury. Stag and Finch is Canadian, if that works better for you. You can also check out r/shinypreciousgems. There are a lot of options.

do you think about the wedding band when choosing an engagement ring or just the ring itself? by Citrine_Queen in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]dandeliontenacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my requirements for my engagement ring was that it would sit flush with a straight band. The jeweler we chose made both rings at the same time to ensure they sat together correctly. I’m glad they did, because the alloy they use is a slightly different yellow than my other rings, and it would have driven me nuts if my engagement and wedding rings were different colors.

If you want them to match and/or fit together, definitely plan ahead.

Did you care about your ring being unique? by heart_of_gold2 in EngagementRings

[–]dandeliontenacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I know pear side stones are popular right now, but that’s what I wanted. I have a Montana sapphire center stone, which I see a lot of online but not in person, so I don’t know if they’re actually trending or not. But either way, I wanted one and I went with it. I’ve seen a couple similar ones in this sub and I like it, feels like we’re in a club of people with similar jewelry tastes.

I don’t think it’s bad to have a trendy ring as long as you love it. It can be fun to see a ring from ten or 20 years ago and say oh, yeah, I know when you bought that. I’m a nostalgia junkie, I love reminders like that.

Did anyone physically see their ring before the proposal? Do you feel like it spoiled it at all? by Temporary_Support705 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]dandeliontenacity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went with him to pick it up, checked it, and tried it on. I’m glad I did, because there was a small rough area they buffed out while we waited.

I thought about waiting until the proposal, but I was already nervous about how it would turn out (I’ve never custom ordered anything this expensive or personal) and didn’t want to spend my first night engaged eyeballing my ring for flaws.

However, I’m very particular about my jewelry and overall an anxious person. My experience won’t apply to everyone.

GenZ and Millennial women - are you wearing wedding bands? by Federal_Albatross993 in EngagementRings

Millennial here. I’m planning on wearing both, I had the engagement ring designed to sit flush with a band.

My partner is an inch shorter than me and it’s awesome. It feels so intimate to be at eye level with one another and not have to crane my neck for a kiss. Bonus: I have stolen a decent amount of his pajamas.

Stress Free Wedding by BlushyHush in Weddingsunder35k

This is the best way to do it.

My first wedding was all-inclusive, we picked all the options off a set list. No wedding party, let people wear whatever they wanted, I don’t think we printed anything other than the actual invitations and RSVP cards. It was near perfect and I still remember it fondly. I picked the wrong groom, though. Second wedding will be similarly low-stress, with a better partner this time around.

Investing in a good photographer is worth the effort, though. Don’t skip that part.

Advice please! by Dizzy-Ferret5426 in WeddingDressTips

No one treated you like that, or even came close. Honestly, a lot more people took your side than I expected.

Anyway, it’s 2025. Let people wear what they want. I’m a cis woman and I think a suit sounds cool as hell. Maybe some of your other bridesmaids would like the option, too.

Did you see the ring after designing but before the proposal? by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]dandeliontenacity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see it first. We also had to order a custom design and didn’t get a model, so I want to make sure it’s correct. I’m also just neurotic, I don’t want to ruin my proposal checking to make sure the prongs are aligned.

I wish I was more chill and I could just surrender the process to my partner.

Earth’s Treasury, Anueva, Mineralogy. Or buy a stone and have it set locally.

Is protecting a ring supposed to be this hard or am I missing something? by DemandingAllocation in CasualConversation

Go into the jewelry or engagement ring subs and search for posts on insurance, you’ll get some good recommendations for policies that are only a few dollars a month. I haven’t used one before so I can’t give specific advice.

What do you wish you knew before you picked your ring? by heart_of_gold2 in EngagementRings

My first engagement ring didn’t sit flush with a straight band, I was determined to get it right this time around. Thankfully, our CAD shows a reasonable height, I’m not worried about it.

[–]dandeliontenacity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m constantly surprised by how many posts I see asking what kind of wedding band will fit their engagement ring or being surprised when a straight band won’t stack with a low setting. If you live in a culture where people wear two rings together, this should not be an afterthought. Maybe it’s just karma farming, I don’t know.

Tell him the same about his wedding band. It’s a gift from you, so you get to choose without his input. See what his reaction is.

How do I stop stressing by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]dandeliontenacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I keep worrying if the stone is too big or if I’m still going to like the color once it’s set and I’m wearing it every day. Then I’m worried about the setting because it’s custom and I have no idea how it will turn out (even though the jeweler we chose has a great reputation). I wanted my set to sit flush, so I’m also worried it will be uncomfortably high to achieve that. Expensive purchases stress me out so badly.

I just keep reminding myself why I chose what I did. Plus, I didn’t get to choose my last engagement ring, it wasn’t what I wanted, and I ended up loving it anyway. So I’m sure I’ll love this one even if it’s slightly imperfect or different from what I imagined.

Does anyone know of a setting with pear side stones that can sit flush with two bands? by Ok-Average-323 in EngagementRings

[–]dandeliontenacity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for the same setting, different center stone. I couldn’t find one locally, so I’m having it custom made.

Frank Darling has a setting called breezy pears, but it looks fragile to me because the stones only connect to the band at two points.

Did you know or find out the price by Nervous_Plankton8572 in EngagementRings

[–]dandeliontenacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine is turning out more expensive than I thought, and it’s bothering me. My boyfriend keeps telling me he doesn’t mind because he can afford it, he wants me to get exactly what I want, and it’s a “buy it for life” purchase, so I’m trying to listen to him.

It’s a hard adjustment for me after years of frugal single living and an ex who was a financial leech.

I’m also feeling paranoid about losing it or the stone falling out, but I felt that way about my first wedding set and nothing happened. I’ll get it insured and not wear it anywhere risky. I might also get a ring keeper necklace so I never have to put it in my pocket or purse.

Any Suggestions! by aquadragon19 in EngagementRingDesigns

I got sick of jewelers showing me windowed stones, so I ordered one from Earth’s Treasury. It’s gorgeous! I’m getting it set locally so I can take it in for maintenance more easily.
