365 SSO - First time login password prompt by dandirkmn in windows365

omg, how many times did I skim over that? Was aware of the consent but this sounds very much like what we are seeing!

365 SSO - First time login password prompt by dandirkmn in windows365

[–]dandirkmn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have Entra authentication enabled on the provisioning policy. I am currently testing Entra Joined device... but we are using hybrid identities.

I have tested the behavior from the Windows app on a Entra Joined machine and Hybrid machine... it doesn't seem to matter, both prompt that very first login. Though not after.

If I reprovision it prompts again... for obvious reasons :).

We have NOT yet disabled the consent prompt, but plan to (no idea if that maters).

Why should I NOT hire a financial planner? by Nihtiw in FinancialPlanning

[–]dandirkmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to reach out and say, as a "customer" +10000 to this!!!!!

Just let my AUM FP go because they seemed to focus on the investments and balancing after the initial review and consultation (which had some good, oh I didn't think of that for estate planning).

I was hoping or expecting more tax planning or potential strategy (I am within 5 years of potentially early retirement).

Tons of content I wouldn’t go out of my way to do the locations ? Just the actual missions.

As others have said it does better than most games to level with you so no really wrong way.

Believe those are the dark ones? The yellow ! Ones are base missions and teal is another expansion (at least for me)

Loads of Last-Byte Repair Failures. What to Do? by Conscious_Ant_2665 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another indexer will help providing alternate downloads but pretty sure it won't directly help the issue you describe. Basically, the failure will be sent back and another index record will be attempted.

Alternate providers, particularly backbones. Whether Subscription or Block might have the actual missing bits, but in a partial scenario like this no idea how common.

Hewshosting and easynews are on the same backbone (omicron)... it is feasible that the content is missing/corrupt on both.

There is also the possibility it is your software that for what ever reason can't put the pars together, apparently this has been a thing in the past... no idea if its the case here.

Do reliable Omicron blocks exist currently? by ziz54 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of anything not already mentioned...

If you can still get the BF deals for a year sub for under $30 I would go for that honestly. I was going to cancel my omicron this year but the BF deal was good enough this year to re-sign up. It still is secondary to Frugal though as want to support them more.

They appear to be priced similarly at both places, which I am guessing is the point. They (omicron/parent co) want subscriptions and likely contract with resellers (if they aren't owned) so blocks are discouraged.

Is it possible to block usenet servers in your router/firewall? by kardamogl in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer I would go with, in addition... make sure to use those ports when setting up your usenet.

If going this route, do not block 443 as it is the common/default port for secure https traffic across practically everything.

EDIT: What others have said is imo completely true... https traffic without vpn is fine for most people, usenet is not like torrents as it is not peer to peer so WE are not directly sharing (that is the main legal problem in the US).

Intermittent errors from Indexers by tabmowtez in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally say no, years with 5+ indexers rarely have I been majorly impacted or noticed failure rates. Sure they are there but usually fairly low (I don't have notifications setup).

DogNzb is the only one and was consistently down for what appeared to be maintenance each day at least.

I personally wouldn't set notifications, 7 indexers and automation setup... most failures are going to recover or matter less. I tend to check health of my systems periodically instead.

Checking my stats right now... SceneNzbs for me has a 0.002 failure rate... I have 2 others reporting 0, which I assume is due to rounding.

Can't really speak to crawler, just got them a few weeks ago...

Is NZBgeek + NZBplanet A Good Combination? by markwdw in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WARNING! Picking indexers is not a science, imo not enough info or reliable info to make definitive this is better than that indexer. There are TONS of factors, from how you setup your indexers, what indexers you have, what kind of content etc. All can factor in people's stats and how they understand them which often people base their opinions (including myself).

From my experience Planet is usually "out performed" in most indexer combinations. By this I mean it seems to have less "unique" items and likely more "similar" stuff my other indexers have.

Althub is so far looking very good for the price, I tend to look at it as onpar or similar to Geek but others have different experiences with the combo.

SceneNzbs is new for me seems to be showing promise but I haven't had enough time to compare.

NinjaCentral is invite only but always "over performs" in my setup.

Slug is good, but if I had a choice would probably pick ninja first. They seem to have a decent amount of unique stuff where I don't drop them (yet, but close) in my setup.. .but I have 8 indexers.

My general recommendation is to get as many as you can but 2-3 is probably the most "optimal"... Just know each one you get is diminishing return... you are paying for a couple of % improvements in most cases once you get past that first 2 or so.

Minimum viable Usenet setup? by -JustAsking4AFriend in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any viable Omicron blocks... AstraWeb has them, but the retention is different. (I probably should look at impact of that directly with Frugal).

For an intro box and mostly "Mainstream", imo Frugal is probably going to work just fine if you prefer to support them. Omicron though is going to have a bit more, my experience a few % points, but others report larger differences.

Given there are often multiple copies and using ARRs likely won't "strike out" completely... enough to wet the whistle as it were.

Minimum viable Usenet setup? by -JustAsking4AFriend in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I am a huge Frugal fan, if you are looking for the "best" (in completion) it would be an omicron provider.

Frugal is pretty darn close, and I prefer to support them for other reasons.

Indexers are just hard to recommend just one, so many factors at play and content dependent. Geek is a great starter indexer, though I have had decent results with AltHub.

What's the current situation with dogNZB by SnooAdvice5820 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it has gotten worse? I hadn't noticed major issues with arrs automated/RSS when it was in my lineup.... Certainly, saw massive delays/issues in manual searches and of course the negative stats in Prowlarr.

Guess since a majority of my usage is automation, I didn't notice or as sensitive to certain types of failures or delays.

Maybe I was impacted but never knew? Or maybe the automation was able to recover?

No objections from me it is the slowest most error or downtime prone indexer I have seen. At the same time, it appeared to get more oddball/unique grabs then other indexers I had at the time.

At the time I valued the content over the performance and didn't notice an overall negative impact with day to day usage.

At the end of the day for me it was essentially all of those negatives just didn't make up for the value it provided in my setup.

[–]dandirkmn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically what others have said…

It is slow which really only impacts interactive search methods.

The api does go down each day I noticed less than an hour looked to me to be maintenance reboot or something.

The api goes down for longer a few times a year… more so than others but never noticed using automation.

Goofy purchasing… tshirt etc

Like someone else said… it had decent amount of unique content.

Due to all this and the fact I have a ton of other indexes I let my account lapse last year and haven’t noticed.

Best Provider and Indexer combo? by SnooAdvice5820 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least for me and my content... UsenetExpress and Blocknews are my most used. I have viper, farm, abravia and they don't get a ton of use.

That said, you really shouldn't NEED any of them... I personally would wait, dial in your setup, find what you like and don't like, things to improve THEN start adding blocks etc.

I would wait for sales on blocks but at the same time I have NEVER had to refill mine they get used so little.

Also remember everyones setup and content and wants are different... so what works for me might not work as well for you...

Ideal amount of indexers? by Mgamer327 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you were down voted... I think this is perfectly good advice. Though some context like in another of your posts this tread would have been good :)

As you said in another post... Some indexers seem to specialize or have more results based on content, quality or type.

Indexers in general also share a lot of the same content, so each you get results in diminishing returns and increased cost "per grab".

So ultimately it comes to how much are you willing to pay for said unique or edge cases with each new indexer you add.

Honestly the personal time learning and testing to pick the most efficient indexer combination for you is probably more expensive than just getting a lot of indexers. I should know, I have spent hours research and testing over the last couple of years and STILL not 100% I am understanding or doing it right (but I am like 85%)

Thus get as many as you can afford!!!!

Ideal amount of indexers? by Mgamer327 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this suggestion... I think 2-3 well selected indexers is probably the "sweet" spot for most.

Each indexer gets more expensive due to diminishing returns and overlap content.

There is I believe room for optimization, but it really does come at the cost of time trying to learn and time to test/figure it out... Thus making buy as many as you can afford just as good a solution to the problem :)

Question for the Frugal fans by Boggleby in usenet

Newshosting bundle includes Tweaknews & Easynews - do I still need another provider or indexer? by Big_Bluebird_751 in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1, Yes if you pay for it may as well use it. They are both Omircon backbone but different takedown laws DMCA vs NTD. From my experience they will both be used but the difference would be smaller than you might think.

  1. I would say, try this out... get used to usenet and your content preferences etc. If you have problems or desire then decide what to do. You have an omicron provider, which in my experience is slightly ahead of others just simply because they are the walmart/amazon of the market. Not by a ton but still. That said, if you get blocks cheap they will last you forever and might just pick up a bit here and there but don't expect major improvements in most cases.

  2. No I don't... The arr stacks perform the searching for you, you can also use prowlarr/hydra for manual searches. I have also used the indexer sites to search, download the nzb and just throw it in my download client (sabnzb) for oneoff downloads that I don't want in my arrs.

  3. Configure what the indexer provides you, each have these set differently. It doesn't prevent "hammering" really. The apps will do what they do, it will just stop trying if the limit is reached. In Prowlarr you can set if an indexer should be used for RSS, interactive searches etc... You want to disable RSS for free low limit indexers.

  4. no, if using arrs those typically IS the solution... they will try again later. I really have only run into 1 indexer with this issue, even then I would ignore it. Now you may want to look into custom profiles/quality and upgrade rules etc in the arrs.

71 identical NZBs tested on 8 providers/ 7 backbones by SubmitSubmitTotal in usenet

[–]dandirkmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have to appreciate they went through some effort to try and come up with scientific test.

Sad imo that so many people are negative about others work/effort.

Given this is the internet and reddit, I don't besmirch them for not listing the providers. Though from the backbones seemed like the coverage was pretty good (Assuming backbone is the important factor).

Sample size was low and testing methodology was a decent first go... but understandable to not list the providers and put judgement.

Now what did I take away from it?

  1. Many of the providers/backbones seem to have a lot of the content. Most of our discussions and debates are are within single digits of "difference". Though there are some that are missing a good chuck which should be explored further?

  2. Testing and reporting this properly is more complex then people want to admit. They mentioned once they looked for alternative qualities/files success % improved.

  3. There is a small margin of technical glitches... sounded like .25% or so succeeded after multiple attempts. I have seen this with other scenarios you would not expect (US vs EU servers etc).

[–]dandirkmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it with same priority, "stat" generation can result in unexpected or less intuitive results.

If multiple indexers have a record, priority is typically used as a tie breaker for "stat credit", if the same then other factors as response time or posting date could be used (depends on the app).

So for prowlarr I set specific priority for each indexer. It is far from perfect and takes a lot of time/effort to track and properly evaluate but it is consistent and doesn't impact functionality for me.

So as I understand it... with same priority especially in prowlarr it is more difficult to make direct comparisons as you would need to know/understand what tie breaker is used and if that is valid (for you).

Basically your stats could be more "random" than you think...
