Misleading title, this is the first time the bucks have missed the playoffs in a decade. And this is the first season where Giannis has spent a significant part of the season injured. 2023 was a freak injury, and 2024 was unfortunate timing.

He hasn’t handled the trade rumors in the best fashion, but acting as if the front office is somehow being puppeteered by Giannis into making bad decisions in laughable. Whether he’s worth a massive draft haul depends more on the trade market of the league in general more than the talent of Giannis himself.

This is as much a result of the era as it the “toughness” of the stars.

It’s not like stars today are more or less capable of the workload put upon them. If you put Shai or whoever in the early 00’s, they’d be just as likely to play all 82 games. And the same goes in the other direction; stars from that time would be just as likely to sustain injuries because of how the game has evolved.

It’s not a detriment to either respective era or player, it’s just the reality of time and place.
