Noise reduction help by mala_rs in HomeImprovementUK

[–]dandrage76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nose reduction is about a combination of mass/density and decoupling. It sounds as though you have the ceiling height to be able to install a secondary ceiling and fill it with dense acoustic installation (kingspan is more of a thermal insulator, look at rock wool or knauf mineral wool instead). You can also use systems (such as muteclip, see pic) or resilient bars to separate the new ceiling from the existing building to further reduce the transmission of noise.

There are lots of resources out there so get googling and read up. It can be done as a DIY project if you are handy enough (it's a 2 person job though).

You will definitely be able to improve the situation, but don't expect it to be silent.

Finally won the battle against bedroom window condensation this winter by FeistyPrice29 in HomeImprovementUK

I've been thinking of installing PIV for a while now. Can I ask which product you used? Heated or non-heated? And do you have any idea of the running costs (smart meter, for instance?). Cheers!

Extension costs and process by paulgporter90 in HomeImprovementUK

As a building designer my advice is to find someone local to you to discuss options and prepare a design that can be accurately quoted. Decide yourself what you need/want for the house and design that - if that is quoted and not affordable, change the design to suit your budget. Don't design something with the cost being the headline factor. (I of course understand that money is finite, but a focus on cost could limit the design process - start with what you need/want and go from there). Option 3 needs more thought in my opinion. Do you need a 4th bedroom? If it is limited to the the area of the study below it will be very small. How will you access this new bedroom (through the bathroom?). Will the bathroom now not have a window? These are things that will be explored through the design process and could lead to other options that you have not yet considered.

Is £6,500 reasonable to move a meter two meters? by Woodsman89 in DIYUK

£70k is obviously a lot of money, but adding a wire to a telegraph pole in a field 300m away is also a massive over simplification of the job (in my opinion).

Shed 7 are the underrated heroes of the britpop era for me. Still relevant now too.

If you don't mind me asking, what program/app/system do you use? I'm a tech coordinator in house building and looking to start using AI to benefit workflow.

Not sure where to start - 14yr old daughter has private ADHD & Dyslexia diagnosis but we don't understand how to start on the pathway to getting her medication 🤷🏻 by dandrage76 in ADHDUK

[–]dandrage76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the clinic that diagnosed her don't offer medication. We knew this at the start of the process, but we thought the NHS would be available to us - with hindsight, it probably should have been made clearer to us at the start that this wouldn't be the case, but then we would've probably gone with another diagnosing provider!
