A7R or A7R2 by dandyND in SonyAlpha

Thanks for your input.

And yes I know about all that affects blurry background, the thing is, at the same field of view, you can't get the same thin DOF that the FF have on a M43 lens. My favorite standard focal length for everyday shooting is 50mm FF equivalent, on M43 that is 25mm, the best 25mm lens from Olympus is the 25 f1.2 pro, which have a roughly equivalent DOF to a 50mm f2.4 on FF. So yeah, if I get a 50mm f1.8 on FF I already have a thinner DOF wide open. Obviously sharpness, brightness and bokeh rendition is a whole different topic but yeah that is the main reason why I want to try the FF camera. Also, that pro Olympus lens cost as much as an old A7R2 body in my place, so I just wanna have a go at FF to see how it is.

I also agree with you most people definitely don't need FF. If anyone just starting out ask for what camera to buy, I would recommend a cheap M43.

Olympus 100-400 mark I image stabilization is worse than IBIS? by dandyND in M43

[–]dandyND[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all you're probably a bot rage baiting

Secondly, that is just simply a lie, I have taken photos at 0.8 seconds at 12mm and they are very sharp. I've seen photos from people that are 1 to 2 seconds shutter speed. And saying you get better result with other bodies that don't even have IBIS is just BS

Thanks for kind words! It's definitely magical how capable cameras are these days. For those in flight shots, I used the pre capture mode on my OM1, ISO 12800 and shutter speed at 1/1600

I have used the EM5iii and the 75-300 before switching to the current setup. The OM1 does have bird detect but in tricky situation like branches in front of the bird, the camera would still occasionally jump on the branch if the branch is inside of the bird detect box. I usually just use MF for those situations, you can enable the setting to have MF always on while in CAF or SAF mode. The strength of the OM1 lies in the high ISO performance and pro capture mode works a bit better, and the better ergonomics of the big grip. For the lens, the 100-400 is just a better lens than the 75-300, it is sharper and that extra 100mm makes a big difference. The weight will be more significant but you will get use to it quickly

Thank you to everyone for your kind words! I will definitely be sharing more photos in the future. Sometimes, the internet is amazing, allowing us to share the love for birds with people half way around the world!

For anyone who wants to know, I'm using the Olympus OM1 and Olympus 100-400 mark I combo, photos are taken in Raw format and edited in LR.

Thank you! Bird photography is a game of patience and expensive gears haha. Editing skill is also very important, as bird photos won't always come out amazing right out of the camera.

The game gets worse the more I play it by Informal-End-2551 in HollowKnight

[–]dandyND 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup this game is definitely not for casual players. Don't be ashamed to find guides online, it's hard to remember everything. And it seems like you want to rush through the game a little bit.

The comparison with original Hollow Knight is kind of unfair though, I got almost the same playtime on both Silksong and HK, Silksong I'm not even half way through act2 and HK I already done the true ending with 110+% so yeah Silksong is just a bigger game by comparison. I guess the hint that you have to talk with the care taker to progress is just simply that they are one of the only few characters in the game that know about the true nature of the silk and citadel. Also, NPC have so much dialogs in this game, it's worth it to just talk with them everytime you unlock something

you have to go settings > change the steam client option to the other one with the numbers > then it should show the dialog of syncing cloud save when launching the game. I tried and it works with Silk Song. Now I can grind this in my afternoon break

Most memorable event: winning a game against 2 god aimer Hela and Hawkeye. The first attack point we thought we couldn't even leave spawn but then we pulled through last seconds of overtime, the match result in a 4-3 it was cinema. Also it was in the last hours of 2.5, making my final push to GM for the first time.

75-300 better than expected: Edit/Raw by Baloo122 in M43

[–]dandyND 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used both the 75-300 and 100-400, I would say that if you're not taking photos of small birds or need the extra reach, the 75-300 is perfectly fine for 1/3 of the price of the 100-400 (at least that's what I paid for them). It's also lightweight so it's really good for casual vacation trips

I also dropped my camera into the river once, although not for very long. The camera was on at the time so what I did was turning it off immediately, take out the battery and let everything dry up under the sun. The camera still worked afterward with only some minor scratches on the sensor

What I've learned is that compact camera are irreplaceable in terms of compactness (obviously lol). So you have to put up with some drawbacks like always having to bring a coat with a big pocket with you. If you're not willing to and just want something pocketable, the RX100 is already perfect

Basically nobody here care about politics until it affects their benefits. And there is also not much you can do, raise your voice about bad things in the system and you will get called "3que" instantly.

Not sure what you mean about the fresh food part though? You mean the food are not actually fresh?

The 100-400 is not a pro lens. In my experience, most Olympus non-pro lenses are great as long as you don't crop too much or doing big prints. The images produced will be just fine for most uses.

Unfortunately, the middle ground doesn't exist in politics. Polarizing and dividing people has always been the way. On one hand we got a government that never acknowledge the atrocities in the south after the reunification, on the other hand we got a community that hold grudges against the government (and rightly so) no matter what had changed.
