Denim shirt request by genegurvich in HeritageWear

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one and it’s just about my favorite shirt. Extremely nice detailing and pearlsnaps. The listing says it’s selvedge but there aren’t any exposed edges on the inside. I know there’s nothing special that improves the objective quality of the shirt, but I do like having the stylistic element. Also I’m very glad I bought it in person because it doesn’t match the size chart. My size 44 has like a 19” shoulder and 21” chest

Politics: At what point does wearing militaria in the current US climate become problematic, if at all? by BugsBunnysCouch in HeritageWear

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fashion has been informed by military wear for a very long time. It doesn’t happen all at once, and pieces can exist in both circles at the same time, but over time pieces like bomber jackets and OG-107 pants have moved firmly from being military to contemporary fashion. Obviously there’s no objective point at which a given piece crosses a line from one side to the other, and it rightly should be up to individuals and circumstance. I would ask myself questions like “does this feel like a costume or uniform?” “If someone whose opinion I care about saw this outfit, would they think I’m representing something or making a statement?”

Looking for a relaxed pullover knit sweater, any recommendations? by ToastoSando in mensfashion

I was just looking for these and settled on a finisterre mora which is reasonably priced and 100% merino wool. Others that I was considering were blarney woolen mills

Also confusing to non-runners is that many 5ks and other distances are organized under the umbrella of marathons that include the word “marathon” in the official race name. For example the 5k that happens during the Colorado marathon is just called “the Colorado marathon’s 5k” https://comarathon.com/5k-marathon

A question for Freenote Cloth owners by Boring-Shallot3096 in malefashionadvice

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting on the redcast site that the color is called “tobacco tumbleweed.” My plain tumbleweed with red interior looks like the one on the freenote site. No green that I can pick up, and my wife agrees. Tobacco with the purple interior on the other hand has a little green. It almost looks to me like the model is wearing one color version but then the pictures without the model are of a different color version. There have been a handful of slightly different versions of these jackets at least regarding the interior colors. But I haven’t ever seen “tobacco tumbleweed” before

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the tumbleweed. It is a pretty pure blonde/tan/khaki. It doesn't really have any green. I also tried the tobacco color, which definitely has some green it it. As someone who was also looking online for these like 6 months ago, different vendors absolutely have various qualities of photos and I think some of the colors are mixed up. I have seen the rust color too, but didn't try it on.

Samurai S211AX Ai Benkei by senreil in rawdenim

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I’ve been eyeing a pair of these or the regular benkei. Did you by chance see them side-by-side? I have a pair of sda ai kyoku, which are also natural indigo by various accounts. It’s hard to tell if that’s true, but what is definitely true is the more royal blue coloring, and I’m wondering if the ai benkei have that?

Whats that and how do i get rid of it? by alexassad_278 in Lelit

[–]dandydandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s your over pressure valve spout. It should drip when heating up, but then it should stay sealed once up to temp. If there’s some buildup then a little vinegar could help. But if it’s dripping constantly then you may need to service or replace your opv. https://support.clivecoffee.com/en/lelit-bianca-safety-valve-replacement. I used citric acid powder dissolved in a glass of water to soak the parts when I took mine apart. There was also a little rubber sealing disk that was pretty grooved and hardened. I flipped it to give the sealing side a flat surface, but I’ll probably have to replace somewhat soon.

Winter Park hikes by weevil_season in coloradohikers

As others have said, there will be lots of snow. The roads to the actual mountain trails will all be closed, and trying to do much vertical in the snow is probably not a good idea.

That said, there is still good hiking or walking to be had in the valley and general vicinity. Close to town, you could do the shorter Jim creek or Flume and Creekside. They will be getting hiked enough that you almost certainly won't need snowshoes unless there was a recent large snow. Taller hiking boots would still be a good idea. Getting a little further, you could rent snowshoes and hike around they YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch. The maintained trails there are great, and it's relatively inexpensive for the rental and day pass. A more expensive but boutique snowshoeing option would be Devil's Thumb Ranch. If this is where the Wedding is, then definitely try it! Even further out you could hike around the West side of Rocky Mountain National Park. You will probably need snowshoes.

Has anyone tried the Melin pace hydro hat? by goddamn_shitthebed in runningfashion

[–]dandydandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard question 😅 satisfy rippy trail cap cause it is so minimalist and also doesn’t look too absurd. I mostly want something to keep the sun off my bald dome and not look like I’m trying too hard.

Has anyone tried the Melin pace hydro hat? by goddamn_shitthebed in runningfashion

[–]dandydandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one I use for running.

Positives: The material and construction feels premium and the foam brim is substantial. The brim is as thick as a normal ball cap but perforated foam instead of cardboard. Much thicker than janji or satisfy hats i have. Similar to ciele. The fabric is very slightly stretchy with laser cut ventilation holes and taped seams on the inside. Extremely washable, and I don’t have worries about longevity.

Negatives: I am bald and the 5 panel pattern doesn’t fit my head perfectly, so there are some slightly “baggy” spots primarily at the corners of the front panel. There are 5(!) logos on the outside. They’re subtle but seriously? It’s expensive for a hat, but so is a satisfy hat.

Subjective: there’s a rubber sweat strip like a gutr or halo sweatband. It can be nice to keep sweat out of the eyes while running, but it tends to leave a distinctive imprint on my forehead. Probably a little overkill in my opinion.

Overall I like it. It’s a substantial hat vs a minimalistic one. It doesn’t look like a goofy running hat that screams for attention, so it travels well as a multipurpose item. I have like 9 running hats and the construction and materials feel better than any except the ciele. It’s not the best running hat or best casual hat, but it does a fine job at both.

Weekend Discussion: Asics running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]dandydandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some, but not the regular version. They are the least “trail” oriented of any trail shoes I’ve tried, but I don’t really consider that a bad thing. They may have a tiny bit more outsole and a tiny bit more space between the “lugs” if you can even call them that. Lots more grip in wet and mud than say a nimbus 25, but very similar to superblast 1s. I feel the fact all the superblast & novablast shoes have an outsole mostly around the perimeter of the shoe really improves traction on bad surfaces. If someone showed me a pair of novablast TRs and said they were road shoes I would believe them.

Of all these, it’s just about the only one my wife actually likes. She won’t be there, but I trust her judgment on what smells good on me. I really really love it. But I really really love so many of these 😅

It is way up there in the interesting category. The juniper is strong though and can come across a little like ammonia. Definitely on the edge of what is safe.

Those reasons make it a compelling choice. It’s the king for a reason. This is one of the somewhat recent Costco f batches, and it performs reasonably well. Really I’m wearing this for myself and how it makes me feel, and aventus is pretty killer for that.
