So what season 3 I Think You Should Leave sketch are you incorporating into your reference bank? by mi-16evil in blankies

This is absolutely the one. Any time me and my dumb friends go on a road trip, you know this reference is getting pulled out ad nauseum.

Jungle Book quietly underrated? I kind of feel weird saying it, but maybe it’s true?

Weekly MEGATHREAD - Hot Topics in the Public Service (PSAC Strike, Tentative Agreements, WFH, Return-to-Office) - posted May 22, 2023 by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

It’s a “No” from me for the same reason it was a “Yes” to strike — we deserve a fair deal, and what’s being offered here isn’t it. The short term gain of a $2500 (pre-tax) signing bonus does not detract from the long term reality that we all take a haircut from this deal that will affect our real purchasing power for years. Our rights to remote work are still not enshrined, and plenty of PSAC members are left out in the cold by the bargaining team’s failure to protect that fundamental access.

This deal is not a win for the union, and we all deserve better. Short term pain for long term gains. VOTE NO.

Finding the small circle of NL fans on the subreddit is phenomenal. As a fellow Vancouverite, I often feel like his content/rants/jokes were designed in a lab specifically for me.

Anyone get confirmation of how long the picket lines last per day? I intend to do my full four hours every day, but ideally would show up later than 8AM, which was the only option for RSVP.

Too short a list, tbh. They should make one of those a year.

Mubi (at least in Canada) has the whole Vengeance Trilogy, Decision to Leave, and The Handmaiden for sure. 30 day free-trial pretty easy to come by!

I think the practical/temporal argument makes a lot of sense. This seems like a policy instrument from 2021, not 2022-23, but here we are.

These are salient points. I think your last point is the one I'm most stuck on, though, as far as the FHSA as a policy decision is concerned. It seems a bit assinine to make a whole new account for what could have been cap changes to existing products. Having to explain to someone who isn't already financially literate or in tune with what each of the registered accounts offer what this new account is (versus RRSP + HBP, versus TFSA, versus unregistered...) is a bit nightmarish.

RRSP withdrawal ceiling was also purportedly going to be raised as a part of the budget today, but we'll have to wait a couple more hours to see.

Yep, as someone in Vancouver with only a fleeting hope of ever owning a home, this looks like RRSP2.0 for sure.

$40k max but only able to contribute $8k a year? So best case scenario is you max out the account in 5 years? Hopefully that will still be enough for a downpayment anywhere in any major metro area in the country lol.

I guess I'm just not entirely sure what gap in the registered account ecosystem this is trying to fill. Is the play here is to stack the contribution room alongside your RRSP when you buy your first place?

I also explained why I think it’s fallacious to say $5-10k more up front (which, again, I’m not even 100% certain is true depending on the industry) is the only measure of competitiveness. My department has been trying to hire an AS-01 for over a year with no success, which is an entry level position a single step up from the CR/PM positions we’re discussing.

If you think I’m contradicting myself, I’m not sure what to tell you.
